Too bad for Enslaved yes.
Happy to see as a xbox player (but not only) that some consider Alan Wake as a fail of this year, a great promise from remedy, that really disapointed me. Hope Alan Wake 2 will be awesome.

TimmyShire4887d ago

I agreed with the Alan Wake bit too. I just don't see how people can rate this as one of the greatest games of the year? It's good, by all means, but definitely didn't live up to the hype. I was disappointed by that, but enjoyed it at times.

I expect Alan Wake 2 will be much more improved, Remedy must've learnt from it.

disturbing_flame4887d ago

We're joking GT5 because of its 5 years development but it was the same with Alan wake, i'm sorry to say that but Alan wake is plus running sub HD with a terrible blur.
I was really digging this game, the scenario seems to be great, but when i played the game i didn't understand where it was aiming at even if iy got some great ideas, it was really messy.

Actually i'm playing Deadly premonition and the game is clearly uglier than AW but its mecanics are far better, 100% better.
If Alan Wake 2 could have same mecanics with sharper graphics than Alan wake the first episode, it would be a potential GOTY.

I bought it day one and still play the game from time to time. The only disappointment for me was a lack of co-op/multi-player. The game seems destined for a L4D type of multi-player...can't wait.

As for how the game played and looked...easily one of the best game engines this gen. The lighting and physics engine are top notch and alot of time and effort was obviously spent perfecting it, especially the lighting which is a huge gameplay element...take a look...

AW game engine...OUTSTANDING!!!

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Story was a big part of the game and the first 5 chapters had most on the edge of there seats...who remembers Rusty...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

How about that Dr Hartman, trying to tell AW it's all a dream...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Many people think this game is all story and no action...furthest thing from the truth...lots of crazy over the top action and set pieces, especially on the harder difficulty levels...Like fan favorite...the Anderson's farm...watch for the lighting...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Many great reviews...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

People complain about AW, the character...O_o...what's to complain about? He has no memory of writing a book that is coming to life before his eye's...his wife, Alice, decided to take a holiday to help AW relax and brings a type writer along...she goes missing and AW finds out she had plans for Alan to visit a local doctor and if that's not enough, the whole town is out to kill him...I guess he should crack jokes and act like he's in a romance novel.

Look at the Bioshock Infinite trailer...AW is already making an impact. Creative director at Irrational game Ken Levine is an admitted AW fan...you can tell, listen to the " flawed " lead character...

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Many have enjoyed the game and I always thought that M$ should of released the game in bite size pieces, just like a TV show. It would of sold far more than the reported 750,000 it has sold thus far.

BTW..other than that...Mark Walberg will be a disaster as Drake and I definitely am ready for a new console...;D

TimmyShire4887d ago

I want to try Deadly Premonition just never got around to picking up a copy. It's cheap enough, so maybe I will in the New Year anyway. A lot of people have said it's everything Alan Wake should've been though.

disturbing_flame4887d ago

And they are right.
Great game, one of the best game i've played this year, really strange, very japanese in fact, great atmosphere, this game reminds me DEAD RISING the first episode when i bought it on my 360, few years ago.
first hours, i was like : "well, not great, but lets continue this."
After 10/15 hours : "OK, this a gem of this generation."
Sometimes i feel happy not to be a graphics whore, there are so many games that i would have missed if i only judged them on their appearence.

TimmyShire4887d ago

Too many people judge a game purely by the graphics alone. People can't seem to realise that a game can be great and have poor graphics. And vice versa, a game with good graphics can still be an awful game.

Will definitely get Deadly Prem now.

rjdofu4887d ago

I'm not calling Enslaved a disappoinment since I don't expect anything good from it, i.e. from developer like Ninja Theory.

Totally agree with Epic Mickey, had high hopes for that, although I haven't played it yet. Think everyone had a glimmer of hope for Aliens Vs Predator too although that didn't make the list...

gamerzBEreal174887d ago

why dont u tell us all why?

anyway black ops imporved alot over MW2 and added alot of new features wtf do u guys want!?! i think everyone just plays it more then anything else out there and thats why there so sick of it all the time i really dont understand every time theres a call of duty it has alot of new and great features

fastrez4887d ago

Was really gutted for Enslaved. It's a real shame to see new, original IP fall flat. It's just a nice diversion from the glut of sequels, but sadly they don't always capture the masses.

DiRtY4887d ago

"no new hardware" is a strange statement with Kinect and Move releasing this year.

And I actually liked Alan Wake. Great story and a nice atmosphere. I am glad it is bundled now.

Kind of a goody story...

On a serious note, that is why I try activating gift cards asap. It's happened to me where the store didnt scan it right where the card was unusuable. Happened at Wally World.

gigoran815d ago

wait, that place is real? national lampoon wasn't kidding?

Tacoboto14d ago

I just bought two of the MonsterVerse Godzilla movies on 4K - both had digital copies expiring in 2023. Both were actually expired.

I'd be surprised but it's WB, of course they'd actually expire them

Knightofelemia15d ago

Usually most of those redemption card have an expiry date on them. If they expired all buyer did was buy recycled paper. And some of those codes are country locked to certain countries. I buy a card from the States I can't use it in Canada.

Chocoburger15d ago

Dumb and silly story. She wasted her money for no reason.

Is it really that hard to go to Steam or GOG. She spent $240, when its currently 70% off on GOG, and only costs $4.49.

Gee, I wonder, should I spend $240 on eBay, or $4.49 on GOG? 🙄

Rynxie14d ago

Most likely she wanted to resell a few or most of them. However, it was a too good to be true situation.

14d ago
Profchaos14d ago

So in short she paid $240.00 assuming usd for a bunch on unactivated game codes.

I still don't understand why I guess cause there's not a physical version and she wanted something for a collection or art project.

Rynxie14d ago

No, most likely to resell. However, she ended up getting screwed.

Asplundh14d ago

This is Alan Wake 1, it had physical copies.

You left out The Darkness games bring those back

fan_of_gaming19d ago

The head of Nightdive Studios has posted that The Darkness is on their list of games they want to do, so hopefully something comes from that

Yi-Long19d ago

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 deserve a mention, IMO.

Good call on Motorstorm, a game released 2 gens ago but still looks and feels so good. Motorstorm 2 and Motorstorm RC were gems as well. They followed up the Motorstorm games with the brilliant Driveclub, which still manages to put modern racing games to shame. Imagine closing down a studio as talented as that ... (!) Incredible.

A little 'arcade-gem' back then was The Last Guy, a top down 'follow the leader' snake-like game where you had to find and lead survivors to safety during an alien invasion, on terrible looking 'Google-earth' maps. Graphics were poor, even back then, but would love that same gameplay with modern maps and graphics.

Street Fighter 4, once it finally had a full roster, was quite good, but it was always an ugly game, sadly. Imagine bringing that back while using the current SF6 engine.

fan_of_gaming19d ago

Good suggestions, I'd be in for
LittleBigPlanet
LittleBigPlanet 2
Motorstorm: Pacific Rift
Motorstorm: RC

purple10119d ago

God damn I love motorstorm so much

At the time I had a low-mid range sony 40” tv, The latency to the controller was waaaay too high, would to play a modern version

In saying that later I got a 3d lg tv and playing the 3d motorstorm in my bedroom with the environment crumbling around the track, was something special, specially compared to what others were playing at the time, will always remember that

Skuletor19d ago

Some good choices here and Resistance: Fall of Man is my most wanted PS3 remaster/remake. Not sure about their claim it was Sony's answer to Gears of War though.

CrimsonWing6919d ago

I’d rather have sequels than remakes. Look at Dead Space 1 Remake. Would’ve been cooler if we got a new entry and it failed with sales sealing the fate of a sequel rather than just replay the same game and it fail in sales and we never get a new entry.

Remakes are great for things like PS2 and earlier games to really get a crazy new graphical coat, but I think we should ease up on all these remakes and actually do sequels.

fan_of_gaming19d ago

Yeah for sure, sequels would be ideal. But in the current market environment where many big publishers are risk-averse, I'd rather get a remaster or remake that a developer can do on a budget that will be approved, rather than nothing for an IP.

Inverno19d ago

I rather they remaster and port over to PC and current gen all the games permanently stuck on PS360. Those games don't need remakes, they need to be given a chance to live again outside of their confined consoles and then give a few proper sequels. Like Sleeping Dogs, Motor Storm, LA Noir, should get another entry.

fan_of_gaming19d ago

Yeah I'd be fine with remasters of PS3 games too, they don't have to be remakes.

Previously On... Alan Wake

Alan Wake 2 continues the writer's story, 13 years later.
