Vanquish Review (PlanetXbox360)

8.9... that's funny. The demo was pretty entertaining. Voice acting however, was horrible.

In other funny news, it's funny how this game mentions the main character as a DARPA soldier. What's even funnier, is that I work at DARPA. There are no soldiers here.

Eh, if you just put down a game after the credits roll, this ain't for you.

If you replay games and like beating high scores and stuff like that, you'll love this.

This will be a cult classic, too bad it'll sell poorly.

My guess is than they actually just made the game the way it should be. 4-6 hours of gameplay for one run, but hell, have you seen how much games like Sin and Punishment, Shumps, and other games are played for?

It's basically like that. I get it that 4-6 hours might sound dissapointing (In fact, I felt dissapointed as well the first time I heard about that.) But when you realize the game's meant for something more than a lenghty campaign, then you actually know you'll enjoy it and play through it for some good time. Or well, at least I will.

Besides, it's actually quite short thanks to the speed of the gameplay. It's basically a Third Person Cover Based Shooter with SPEED everywhere, wich makes you beat stuff really fast instead of walk pointlessly and shoot a thing, then walk again slowly.

I wonder how much a no-boost run would last like...

Perhaps it doesn't. Perhaps it does. For me, it actually justifies the price, considering the fact that there is simply no other thing like this out there.

Also, I'm quite sure that guy memorized the level layout, and that took him a few hours or hell, even days. Wich means he'll play the game for an incredibly long time memorizing the layout of EACH level and then thinking how to be faster.

problem is that while replay value is definitely a plus, why release a 4-6 hour game with no MP on top of that(wouldn't be a problem if it had good campaign length).

High scores and "stuff" is fine but even if you play the game through and through 3 times that's still 12-18 hours of total gameplay for a $60.00 price tag and 3 times repeating the same game gets old for shooters.

still that doesn't justify the price,i mead you will finish the first time in 4-5 hours and them you will do it even quicker,there was a guy on youtube that made a speed run of the demo,i wonder how fast that guy will finish the game, 1 hour maybe?

Let me say I'm a huge fan of this development team, and this has topped my most wanted list for a while. I do like scoring systems and replaying games to try and master the points, but at 4-6 hours in length, it has dropped off of my list. I just expect more for my $59.99 + tax. I understand the constraints that dev. teams find themselves under, and due to the rock solid framerate and other outstanding features, I can also understand where they had to spend a lot of their time.

I just simply enjoy lengthier games. I like to lose myself in a story and a universe (even if the stories are often generic or just so-so). For me a 6 hour game just doesn't provide me with the immersion factor I am looking for. By the time a game that short really has it's hooks in to me, it'll be near the end credits.

I'll still play it, but it will definitely be a $19.99 used copy.

this games sales are going to suffer because of the campaign length. i hope that doesn't kill of a sequel because i'm sure the length is an area they would work on. meaning the sequel is what this one should've been.

I just thought it felt too generic. Didnt care for it. To me, it was no better than the Quantam Theory demo.

This may sound odd but a big thing that keeps me from buying these types of overtly Japanese games is the fact that we're always forced to use the English audio. It's like only being able to buy a dubbed version of a foreign movie and who can stand to watch dubbed movies??

Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza are in Japanese.

The English in Vanquish didn't bother me, though. It's hyper-macho and silly, but it doesn't seem to take itself as seriously as other hyper-macho games like Gears games (great games; corny dialogue). I was amused rather than repulsed by raspy voiced Sam and company.

Cutting points on this "length" aspects. Anything else, Shinji Mikami has nailed. I also noticed Vanquish was created VERY quickly when Bayonetta was released. Excellent gameplay and graphics (not to mention getting proper dibs with the PS3) within a short period time? Why not wait another few months to include more levels?

4-6 hrs!!! It took me 18hrs on my first play through of Bayonetta. Dam dam dam, I was going to buy this game but if that's true then no way am I plunking 70 bucks on it.
