BioShock PC install limit increased from 2 to 5 per copy

2K Games has loosened the DRM copy protection on the PC version of BioShock by raising the activation limit from 2 to 5 installations per copy. The move is a response to complaints that the copy protection was too restrictive.

If players still have issues, 2K says they should contact SecuROM, the company who created the copy protection software, to request re-activation and other fixes.

all the issues they are having with this game on PC is just crazy. Why bother when you can just pop it in a console and play in the games full glory. Most PCs are straining to handle the game. Why pay 3grand for a decent gaming PC only to have it go obsolete in 3 to 4 years and have to spend another 600 bux on a new vid card and 200 on more ram. Meanwhile I can play all the new games on my console without upgrading a dam thing, plus im doing it in front of a 50 inch HD screen and sitting on my couch listening to 7.1 surround sound.

When did PC gaming start dying? At about the same time torrent and file sharing started since late 1990s and early 2000s.

The ease and widespread of piracy have been killing PC gaming. Game developers have turned to MMO, subscriptions, and pay-to-play as workaround solutions to fight rampant piracy. At least they know they'd always get the money from players when everyone has to pay-to-play.

So single-player games just slowly but surely fade away on PC. The money is just not in unprotected single-player games anymore. Why would anyone want to pay for the games when they could so easily and freely download it from the Internet without paying a dime?

Now game developers are fighting back... with copy protection and DRM. If this is the way to encourage developers to get back into making single-player games for PC, then I'm all for it.

Lol, PC gaming is the best. PC gaming pirates are the problem.

Apparently this game has already been cracked and is available for download. I rented it for the 360 myself simply because I had no intention of buying a game for $60 when it has ZERO replay value. Single player only is fine, just don't charge me $60 for a game that only lasts about 10-12 hours.

Yes, that is how long it took me. I rented it Wed. and I beat it yesterday. It was a good game, but it doesn't deserve the over the top reviews it has recieved either. Lol, oh yeah, that 10-12 hours included getting both endings.

would pay 3k for a gaming pc

<<paid $1500 and has a machine that scored in the top 4% of all machines that have run 3DMark.

then again I bought all the components at a computer show and built it myself..lol

still not satisfied

i want UNLIMITED amoutns of installs of a game i purchase.

Fighter6521d ago

PC gaming is becoming such a hassle. The games are looking even better but the problem is, like the first commenter said, that you must upgrade your graphics card to the latest to truly enjoy the visuals that the devs put so much effort into. Only 5 installs is pure sh*t when you have to pay full price for this game. I'm sure hackers are working on this issue right now although I don't promote stealing games that are worth your money.

I hope this game makes its way to the PS3.

AliC6521d ago

This is why people pirate games to avoid all this pointless crap that causes way to many problems.

unless you went through the trouble to crack it yourself, or you use a cracked copy -- which is always risky because it could be infected with virus.

In BioShock's case, you'd have to activate it ONLINE to be able to play it. Otherwise, the game wouldn't even work.

Radiomorph6520d ago (Edited 6520d ago )

As far as I know, online activation hasn't stopped crackers from success.
But this whole deal just sucks. Not being able to install a f*cking game how many times it may take through a lifetime is just plain idiotic!

let me update u f00ls
u can easily get 360 modded and can burn the downloaded torrents
of xbox 360 games and with new mod chip u can bypass the security
of xbox live and play online
last time i even heard that some russian hackers
even bypassed the ps3 1.5 firmware and was able to boot illegal games
copies

Ghoul6521d ago

pay for your games ór get a hobby you can afford.

USMChardcharger6520d ago

i thought with the new vista operating system...it made pc gaming like console gaming...where you don't have to load a game any more...just pop it in and play.

is that completely wrong?

SupraDOHC6520d ago

The only game i've seen that could do that was Halo 2, and I thought that was a completely worthless idea. You were given the option to start playing it while it was installing.

It's 10 years too late for a BioShock film. The world of Rapture would have been perfect for a film. It's actually a good candidate for proper utilization of 3D, for increased depth rather than bullshit popping out of the screen. It could really show off the underwater city that way. But BioShock as a brand is so irrelevant these days that a film just doesn't make sense. Especially considering it would need a big budget and top notch effects to really take advantage of the IP.

gold_drake340d ago

i agree on the bigger budget. all the cgi they'd need for the background.

but i think it would work better as a show. a movie would be too short to establish the story

TheNamelessOne340d ago

Netflix greenlights anything, so that shows me very little faith in the project. Enough to just crap something out as they're, more and more, known to do.

badkolo339d ago

its where b movies go to live, its run by democrats , dont expect anything good from netflix

I'll laugh if it turns out to be better then the Borderlands movie
