Most tower defense games are over-simplified to the point of dullness nowadays. Set up towers, watch creeps follow a pre-determind path, and hope for the best. Every now and then you’ll upgrade a tower or buy a new one, but beyond that, tower defense had managed to become something of a spectator sport. The Battle For Hoth is looking to change all that, placing you in command of an army that needs your constant supervision.
Guardian writes: "There aren't many 30-year-old films still generating games, let alone eagerly awaited ones, but The Empire Strikes Back is different. Star Wars already boasts a swathe of apps, the lightsabre is particularly ubiquitous, but THQ is hoping for a more engaging experience with The Battle for Hoth (Apple app store, THQ, £1.79)."
The Imperial assault on Hoth is one of the best sequences in the entire Star Wars film series. Terrifying walkers relentlessly stomp their way toward the Rebels' hidden base, threatening to corner its leaders before the victory over the Death Star can be truly enjoyed.

When we first heard that there was a tower defense game in the works based on not only the best entry in the original Star Wars trilogy, but also a movie that is so good that it ranks in at #10 in the IMDB Top 250, it was hard to not get excited. After all, the entire battle on the ice planet Hoth seemed to make quite possibly the perfect scenario for a tower defense game, especially when you throw in heaps of Star Wars fan service in to the mix. After spending the day playing Star Wars: Battle for Hoth, I'm happy to report that Battle for Hoth is a competent tower defender, with quite a few good ideas. Unfortunately, it's also lacking in some areas, which may or may not concern you depending on your level of obsession with the Star Wars universe.
