New Zelda Details

Nintendo has remained relatively quiet about Wii's next Legend of Zelda game. Company demi-god Shigeru Miyamoto spoke briefly about the adventure sequel at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2009 and also showed off the first snippet of artwork for the still-untitled project. Since then, the publisher has dropped a few more details...

It's obviously going to owe some debt to LoZ:TP. Just look at the E3 artwork. But the most intriguing thing Shiggy said is this:

"With Twilight Princess, we challenged ourself to create the most vast and realistic world the series had ever seen, but we don't feel that we were able to fully complete this objective. With that as a starting point for our improvements to the series in the future, we are of course working on a new game for Wii."

Twilight Princess was a massive game, even by today's standards. Are they going to make Hyrule even bigger? That could be unwieldy without Midna to warp Link around.

[As an aside, LoZ:TP gets hated on waaaaaaaaaay too much. I know I'm in the minority, but I frickin' love that game. Could it have been a little harder overall? Sure. But what's there is AAA-grade stuff.]

hatchimatchi5252d ago

^^
aonuma said it, not miyamoto.

I also feel like Twlight Princess gets a bad rap. The game is solid and one of my favorites for this generation of gaming. In fact, i think i'm gonna start a new game in it this weekend.

Redempteur5252d ago

i don't think it will be more big ... or more massive .. just richer ..

more details , more npcs more quest ..

a zelda game with the same size as TP but more full of people would be great ...

And of course motion plus sword play ... who doesn't want to try it in a zelda game ??

EvilTwin5252d ago

D'oh! Good catch, hatch. My bad.

I have to finish up Okami, but I'm definitely going to go back and replay LoZ:TP (COD:MWR has been taking all of my time lately). Have some great memories from that game. Maybe people will look back in a few years and remember TP more favorably than they do now. Happened with WW and MM.

KruLLit5252d ago

What's even more strange is that I think twilight princess is the best single player experience I've ever had. It's not many single player games that I can play for 12 hours straight and still want more.

That's an indication of a AAA-title. Hell, I was even scared of playing it :)

Quadrix5252d ago

I dunno...if the world is beautiful enough, I'd probably choose taking the slow, scenic route on Epona over warping.

TP does get alot of hate, basically because "gamers" this gen just love to hate anything non HD related.

I thought and still think that LoZ:TP is one tof the best games currently and the story was amazing. The side story revolving around the kids from Link's village was engrossing and Hyrule was F'N huge. Man I cannot wait until a trailer is released.

EvilTwin5252d ago

Midna was actually likable. Easily the least annoying character of any sidekick in LoZ. And her story was well told. [spoilers] Even if I thought Zant should've been the main antagonist, I was actually pissed when Ganon threw down on her.

People are always talking about wanting a better story and a darker plot in Zelda, but I thought Twilight Princess delivered both of those things.

pcz5252d ago

Just as the twighlight princess was released right at the end of the gamecubes life and ported to the wii- maybe the new zelda will see a release on wii and wii2 (HI-res)? After all, its pretty late in the day for a new zelda on wii, and so far they have only shown concept art. so a christmas 2010 release at the very earliest (optimistic) taking into account nintendos notoriety for pushing release dates back.

EvilTwin5252d ago

I wouldn't be surprised by that at all. The launch of the Wii with two killer apps (one for the more "casual" crowd, the other for the "core") worked well for Nintendo.

There is no bigger title you can launch a console with. I'm thinking...2011?

Serial_EDX5252d ago

You know I'm seriously starting about picking up a wii, I haven't ever played a zelda and I think I would start with twilight, not to mention I want to play animal crossing, Smash bros, Monster hunter, this zelda, metroid. There are alot of games I have missed out on.

:3 Maybe I'll pick one up in a few checks.

eagle215252d ago

My first Zelda was Ocarina in 2004 on GameCube, even though I had a NES in 1989, that was the FIRST. It was perfection and made me a huge Zelda fan. Only $10 on virtual console! You are a lucky gamer. :)

yippiechicken5252d ago

TP was my first Zelda game and I was absolutely amazed at how much I enjoyed the game. Finishing that game was probably one of my best gaming memories that will stick with me for a long, long time. I had never felt so immersed in a game before that.

ChickeyCantor5252d ago

" I haven't ever played a zelda and I think I would start with twilight,"

honestly, its not the first game you should start with, i suggest you play the 2D games first. I think you will be able to appreciate the series more if you do that.

TruthbeTold5252d ago

so much as they don't like it when people say it's as good as or better than "whatever their favorite Zelda title is". That's why it gets so much hate imo.

Honestly I really changed my mind on Fi with the remaster because they didn't make her interrupt your gameplay every 5 seconds, that drastically changed my views on her

Inverno79d ago

Technically she's in ToTK but obviously can't take any other form than the sword she was made into. Also the companion feature has been done plenty of times in Zelda, I don't think it'll add anything new. If anything should be brought back it should be the Minish.

Directionless Modern Zelda Should Return to its 3D Roots

Matt from We Game Daily writes "The Legend of Zelda series has gone in a different direction. One which, try as I have, I just can’t get on board with. Here is why I think Zelda should return to its 3D roots."

Amen! A good, tight, Zelda game with a focus on dungeons and puzzles. Let people have the new style Zelda if you gotta, but let us have the OoT style games too. That's not without precedent either, the handheld 2D Zelda's in the style of A Link to the Past etc have coexisted alongside the 3D Zelda's before

FinalFantasyFanatic110d ago

As much as I like BoTW, TotK, I need my traditional Zelda games as well, I could not endlessly play the open world Zelda games, plus it's harder to keep those fresher than the traditional games.

Eidolon110d ago (Edited 110d ago )

BotW was just as fresh to the franchise as OoT was. TokT was great but the next LoZ would have to move from that formula to be fresh again. There's only so much they can do with the hardware. I think they focused too much on making the world big instead impactful. I felt the world was sort of empty and repetitive in TotK, sure there was a lot to do but no more difference a Ubisoft game..

anast110d ago

I wouldn't worry too much. Nintendo knows what they are doing.

Ristul110d ago

Wind Waker had a perfect balance of open world and a cool, well hand-crafted design. Maybe try to keep the open world but put in effort to make more memorable story driven quests and locations.

Zelda Fan Brings Godzilla to Life in Tears of the Kingdom

A fan of The Legend of Zelda has recreated the iconic Japanese monster Godzilla in Tears of the Kingdom using the game's Zonai devices.

Knightofelemia148d ago

I like it would also be cool if some created Dragon Caesar in the game I would love to watch the two going at it.
