the 'colour bleeding' effects were pretty cool, but overall i expected more, the light seemed pretty 'hard', there wasn't alot of soft ambient lighting etc, just fixed hard lighting and a tiny bit of global illumination, there's not exactly a massive jump from cryengine 2 to 3

There's only one logical explanation for this halt in crytek's phenomenal progress on the tech side....i'm looking at you console's

@aty

All the demo's they show are things that actually happen in their games, you must not have played crysis because that's what the lighting is like in game. You say that they have no games running on this engine, I think you'll find crysis 2 will look very similar to what you saw here

"There's only one logical explanation for this halt in crytek's phenomenal progress on the tech side....i'm looking at you console's"

LOL...

And, yawn, at more silly Crytek 'engine demos'. Who do these clowns think they are fooling with stuff they don't have running in their actual games? Booring.

Put up or shut up. Show it an actual shipping or soon to be shipping game or stop wasting everyone's time with the pathetic hype CryTek.

saint_john_paul_ii5331d ago (Edited 5331d ago )

I have to disagree with you.

dirthurts5331d ago

such as radical new tech, such as DX10 and DX11, they do help in one way. If they can make it run decent on a console, it will run amazing on a computer. While Crysis looks great, it's not well optimized. Hopefully the consoles will force them to look in both directions.
I just hope the console version don't hold back the pc version...

saint_john_paul_ii5331d ago (Edited 5331d ago )

CryEngine 3 is not much of a jump. its just a more refined engine. Optimized compared to the Cryengine 2.

Keep up the Good work CryTek. Push the Consoles to its limits. Especially the PS3.

jack_burt0n5331d ago

Crytek are first and foremost pc devs imo they are just looking to make a living on the consoles. Its always gonna shine on pc.

For ps3 tech its ICE and PD to get excited about.

SuperM5331d ago

Even if you say its just "to make a living" they have still put more work into the consoles and PS3 in particular then any other 3rd party developer. It is very impressive what they have achieved on consoles and its definately gonna be interesting to see what games can be made on the engine.

Nihilism5331d ago (Edited 5331d ago )

watch this in HD, educate yourself fool

http://www.youtube.com/watc...

the writer of the "top 5 graphics engine articles" said that he purposely didn't include cryengine as it would deserve it's own article

@piroh,

whatever little sh!t, every single multiplat looks 1000 times better on pc, keep dreaming

anyone up for a laugh here's a quote from the fool below

"PS3 games will always looks better. killzone 2 is far better than crisis and dirt 2 is piece of junk in terms of graphic quality. the best game engines are Uncharted engine, Killzone engine and MGS4 engine. PS3 destroys PC"

dirthurts5331d ago

Maybe you need to play these games...
Have you ever even played games on good pc? Note I said a GOOD pc. Not the crap your grandma passed down.
Cryengine and Crysis utterly destroys anything on any console. I own a ps3, xbox 360, and yes I've played Killzone. Not that impressive. Just a lot of eye tricks. There really isn't anything special going on in that game visually.
Now Crysis, that's an amazing game. Physics, graphics, draw distances, it's all just in a league of it's own.
Anything you run on a computer is going to look 10 times better than its console variant.

No one cares. The whole can it run Crysis is old, dead and stupid. It's also irrelevant, considering only less than one percent of pc owners, own a high-end PC. Second, I believe Crysis wasn't even optimized properly.

TheColbertinator383d ago

Crysis blew my mind back then and still kinda does.

bunt-custardly383d ago

Let's hope the modders can get the other Crysis games working in VR as they use the same Cryengine.

Bioshock still looks fantastic, one of my all time favorites.

Yui_Suzumiya454d ago

Beyond: Two Souls on PS3 can compete with modern day graphics.

SonyStyled454d ago (Edited 454d ago )

Same as Killzone 2 and 3, uncharted 2 and 3, Infamous 2, Heavy Rain, Resistance 3

jasonismoney454d ago

I wish this was entirely true, but you might want to load up Killzone 2 and Resistance 3 again.

SonyStyled454d ago

@jason I watched some gameplay videos of KZ2 and R3 on my full screen. They are on par or succeed graphically to the first person shooters mentioned in the article that also launched on the seventh generation of consoles. Try the same and see what you think

cthulhucultist454d ago

Killzone 3 was super impressive! I could not believe the graphics back then as I was regularly pausing the game to stand in awe looking at the surroundings! Resistance however did not impress me that much. Heavy rain is also another amazing graphically speaking game. It almost felt next gen

Fist4achin454d ago

I always thought the first 3 Gears of War games looked great and still hold up for today.

SonyStyled454d ago

They did for their day. I recently played gears judgement with on the 360 and the draw distance was so blurry. The characters up close look great though

JEECE454d ago

Far Cry 2 was awesome. In addition to having demonstrably better physics and AI than later games in the series, it had a lot of design decisions that, criticized at the time, have since been praised in games like BOTW and Dark Souls.

iNcRiMiNaTi454d ago

It might not be super amazing by today's standard but I thought Mgs3 looked really good

JEECE454d ago

In terms of art style it still holds up.

Can It Run Crysis? The Only Steam Deck Question That Matters

Digital Foundry: "When Alex Battaglia got his hands on a Steam Deck, this was inevitable, right? So can the Steam Deck really run Crysis? And if so, what type of optimised settings produce the best performance? What's the best balance of features and battery life... and what about 60fps?"
