Pulseman certainly won't appeal to everyone, but those who miss how things used to be will find an enjoyable experience here. It performs a clinic on classic game design and shows that the Virtual Console, through "imports," has the potential to satiate the hunger old-school gamers are suffering.
Operation Rainfall writes: "All in all, Pulseman is totally worth your time and money. But it’s not worth your time because it has the best platforming you’ll see on a console or because its story, length, or replay value will keep you coming back.
It’s worth your time because the presentation that this game offers is unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, especially if you have a history with Game Freak that’s only limited to the Pokemon franchise."
Game Freak is most commonly associated with the Pokemon series, but it’s certainly not a young company. In fact, it began releasing games for non-Nintendo consoles as early as the 1990s. One such title is the Japanese import, Pulseman, for the Sega Genesis.
SBG: "A few weeks ago I told you that Game Freak –the makers of Drill Dozer– were primarily known for their Pokemon games. After enjoying Drill Dozer so much, I thought I’d check out what other games they’d made. Turns out, even though they’re exclusively contracted with Nintendo these days, they actually made two games for the Mega Drive in Japan. The first one is called Magical Tarurūto-kun and is based on an anime you’ve never heard of. It’s a kids game, but is pretty fun and looks beautiful. The second is a game I didn’t know about but apparently has a pretty strong following."
