Activision NOT scaring everyone off into 2010

In response to an article posted on GOONL!NE titled, "Congratulations, Activision, You've scared everyone off." One game scaring off more than half the competition into 2010? C'mon! There are gamers out there who do play other games besides Call of Duty y'know.

for their killer titles. They certainly produce some of the best games and that is certain. As for 'scaring' other publishers and developers that is really a poor title.

This article really is poorly written.

If I was a software developer/publisher I would look at my IP and judge if it is strong enough to go up against the big hitters coming from a company such as Activision. Naturally, if I was releasing an unknown title I wouldn't do so on the same day that Modern Warfare 2 comes out.

I am not buying MWF2 because i hate Activision or anything like that. I just don't need to. Uncharted will provide my TPS MP and KZ2 for my FPS MP for this year.

The recent footage really didn't impress me much. KZ2 has such an amazing MP.

I'm not buying MW2 because IMO, CoD is way overrated. But that's just me. Uncharted 2 is going to take all my time for the rest of the year. Unless GT5 get released on december.

I like COD 4 Modern Warfare, but I do agree with you guys that Killzone 2 is better. At first I was a little skeptical, but I have been playing it a lot and it is amazingly good and is now one of my favorite PS3 games. I'll be getting Halo 3 ODST too, but not Modern Warfare 2.

Its not MW2 that is scaring others away. Starcraft 2 is also said to be coming. That is the scary one. Everyone likes Starcraft. Well alot anyway. I am even considering getting Starcraft 2. Even though I don't really know anything about Starcraft. Still on shaky ground for launch, but still to launch in 2009 as far as I know. Besides that noone ran away from the line-up when Modern Warfare 1 came out. Its Starcraft 2 that is scaring publishers. Notice that most of the delayed titles are releasing on multiple platforms. Its the PC sales that worry the publishers.

Besides that any game that gets delayed should get a bit of extra polish on it. So its not really that bad of a thing for a game to be delayed 3-6 months.

s a UK gamer I wish Infinity Ward would stand up and either back their publisher over the blatant rip off of UK gamers or distance themselves from the practise.

As it stands I won't be buying the game and I know several people who would have bought it that intend, at best, to import it, or at worst pirate it for PC when it arrives or even on 360. Myself, I will not be buying or playing the game 'til IW make their position clear and , look, I know it's rare for a dev to stand up against a publisher but in this caese I hardly think Acti are gonna drop IW(as their best dev, arguably)if they did so and their silence has to be taken as agreement with conning the British gamer.

So maybe pre owned for me next year at the outside but I doubt bery much that the average uninformed or just selfish UK gamer will do likewise. Most of them will just think the games are being put up in time for Xmas and not realise the blatant ripp off from Acti and thus condemn the rest of the world to the same next time a COD is out. Us folk in the UK are very used to being ripped off and I feel that's why this is hapening over here had this been announced for the US there might have been more of a kick off but, sadlu, I can see this working perfectly for Activision esp now the field's been cleared for them!

I'm just hoping for MAG to be out for Xmas(servver issues aside!)as I like the look of it more than more of the same from COD anyway-then there's always ODST for 360 gamers so there isn't any need for PS360 gamers, as it stands, to give in to MW2 for FPS lulz this year(in the UK)and Activision should NOT get away with this-they will but they shouldn't be allowed to!

It's my way for protesting. I want to play the game and play I will. However, I'm not buying it used. My good friend is in Europe and I think it's a travesty they are raising the prices. He's going to do the same.

I'm interested in DJ hero but I'm not paying that price.

Activision did scare the other games off into 2010. It's a fact. Get over it. Just because some people don't play Call of Duty doesn't mean they can use their personal experience as an example against the power of Modern Warfare.

I believe when Sony came out and said that they were delaying Heavy Rain to give it more "breathing room," they were referring to something called Modern Warfare 2. Not everything has been delayed, but a lot of niche games that would otherwise go neglected have been taken far away from Modern Warfare 2 in order to ensure that they don't flop.

Some people makes it sound like MW2 is the only game releasing during Fall/Winter. Thats not true. Just 2 weeks before MW2, R&C comes out. 2 weeks after MW2 AC2 comes out. November still has L4D2. 3 major games just in november, but october is EPIC as well.

Ontopic: Fall season was way too packed, with or w/o MW2. Some of those games were bound to be delayed any way. Some others just werent ready for release, as Sc:Conviction.

Don't get me started on the "I'm alright, sod you" nature of many gamers today Raz mate, really don't.

I think it's this attitude that allows the divide and rule policies of many gaming companies this generation to get away with so very much that's been either cheeky or downright despicable. The manufactured console war is the worst example of this thinking and means we never stand together when a portion of or munber is being taken from the rear.

Did you buy or rent Call of Duty: World at War?

Reason I'm asking is, I'm wondering if you all are getting Call of Duty overload? Maybe you're just over the franchise in general? I'm thinking if I bought both COD4 and WaW (I refused to buy or even play WaW), I would be hesitant to buy another one so soon.

I still don't know if I will buy MW2 day one. I'll have to see more of it to make a final decision.

I didn't buy world at war, the same way i had never bought an EA game before Dead Space. EA has kind of done a U turn in my eyes and now when people talk about EA, i am prepared to give them a chance.

In the same light, just about the only DLC i have bought off of xbox live is GTA L&D. I have never bought any theme or gamer pics with points. If there is an offer to download them free for a time then sometimes i will do that but again i don't support MS pricing on a lot of the content so i don't buy it.

I'm going to say most of the games that moved to next year that are ready to ship did so because of modern warfare 2. This is not the only game coming out at the end of the year but name a game that will be multiplatform and just as popular at the end of this year. Exactly. Why chance less sales when you can have a time frame all to your self. As for MW2 raising the price... I really don't care it doesn't effect me and if it did, it's just a game. People need to stop crying and understand that this is a business. They make kick ass games to get paid not to see the smile on your face and walk away knowing they made a happy gamer. It's not only a game and we understand "it's business" but Acti would make cash at the price they're(luckily for you) charging in the US and as we're in a recession the price hike is slightly sick in my book esp when other luxury items are being sold at lower prices than usual. What's worse is that the UK is the worst hit nation in the EU in terms of jobs lost this downturn-but "it's only a game", yeah, you sound like Chamberlain and piece of fekkin paper.

didn't like CoD4. i played it, i thought it was ok, but i just don't get the near fawning praise of the game. i love what Infinity Ward did with the MP, but i'm not a big MP player, so that aspect wasn't what appealed to me. the 6 hour single player campaign didn't help either.

i didn't really see much special about CoD4, but that's just me and my opinion.

i prefer the fantasy settings of Resistance 2 and Killzone 2, and the gameplay they offer to CoD4's offering.

and games being delayed to 2010 isn't because of Modern Warfare 2. that's just retarded.

there was no less than 30 or 40 extremely high profile games set to launch in November-December 2009. i'm not going to list them all, but the point is that this fall WAS oversaturated with games. to the point that ALL of those releases, had some not been delayed, would have been cannibalized.

my own personal list consisted of a bunch of titles:

yes i'm bummed that games like Heavy Rain and WKC got delayed until next year, but at least i'll be able to BUY them when they release, whereas if they had released this year expected, i would have had to pass on more than just them, but quite a few.

even of the games STILL releasing this year, i have to pass on a few, sadly. i'm just trying to figure out which ones (i'm buying Uncharted 2 and Ratchet 2 no matter what, so my two other game purchases i should be able to afford this year will be hard choices for certain).

Well, yes, we do play other games but considering the success of COD4 in 2007, it would be a surprise if, at least, one lesser known(so to say) publisher was a bit uncertain about releasing it's title in the same time frame as MW2. The game has got hype, and 'hype' does wonders for the opening sales.

About the price, well, there'll still be many gamers who're more than willing to dish out any amount of money if it means getting their hands on the sequel to their favorite mp-game. So, as much as i hate the fact that Activision are going the EA way, there's little we can do about it.

infinity ward and activision are both a bad combination imo. COd4 will be receiving a 2nd patch after two year if my memory serves me right...what kind of support is that for a game?!

I mean we the gamers have supported COD4 by making it the most played online game on XBL and PSN. you will think the best they can do is add more features and fix some things the fans complain about. guess thats the last thing on their mind because they only care about milking the money out of our pockets.

E.g i went into blockbusters to buy COD4 for my 360 even though i had it on PS3 the price was £30... imo that is day light robbery for a two yr old game.
