They already have in most of the world a hike in the US is inevitable they are probably figuring out costings for the US still but expect the consoles, accessories including the portal and VR along with subscriptions to increase

Next gen is over before it starts if this carries on. It's going to price out so many people.

JEECE34d ago

As much as it doesn't excite me at all, maybe we need another limited jump generation, like PS3 to PS4. PS3 was $600 when it came out in 2006 (for the primary model), and then PS4 came out at $400 in 2013. The limited tech jump resulted in a disappointing gen in some respects, but the low price point was also what got a lot of people into gaming. Maybe gaming as a whole will be better off if the PS6 is a more conservative leap and they can keep it at $600 or so.

Normalizing renting isn't the wisest thing to do. The price hikes are there to force people to rent.

darthv7234d ago (Edited 34d ago )

you rent what you just want to play, and buy what you want to own... it's that simple.

@anast
(Being real, not trolling this time)
Not sure how old you are but renting is the norm. From blockbuster to game fly to gamepass. Not everyone wants to own a game they're never going to play again.

Your last 6-ish comments (after around 25 days of silence) are about advertising Steam/steamdeck. Are you ok? Blink twice if Gaben is holding you or your loved ones hostage. I'm genuinely curious.

neutralgamer199233d ago

For the amount of money it's going to cost to own a console you might as well build a mid range PC that gives you more options. You get multiple store fronts to buy from to get a better piece and mod aupport

staticall33d ago

@neutralgamer1992
While i do agree with you on the whole idea (and i do own a PC), i think that:
a) This blatant advertisement will turn more people off;
b) Not everyone likes to build their own PC (cheaper and better; prebuilt PCs have a bad reputation and cost way more), with consoles, you don't have to worry;
c) PC parts will also increase in price;
d) I own mid-tier PC and i can't modern games reliably or with good FPS. Consoles offer better performance, IMO.

On top of that, many AAA games on Steam cost the same (or very close to the same) amount of money as on consoles, especially new ones.

Also, i would argue, that PC have a lot more storefronts, like GOG (no DRM, exclusive older games, better support for modern systems), Itch.io (a ton of exclusive games, lower commission, better payment options), Humble, that offer better service than Steam. But you only hear about Steam. Don't get me wrong, i love Steam, but, IMO, it's been on a slow downhill slide (bad review system; curators system that might screw with pricing or product availability; worst recommendations that are hiding good games from me that help actully, i have to look at alternative sources like steamdb, youtubers and recommendation services; terrible support for games, newely bought games can crash, cause BSOD, require you to visit some other website to obtain a CD key (hey, Dark Void Zero)).

Sorry for rant, but what i was getting at, Steam have problems and it's not a perfect system, as comments like @blacktiger might suggest. PC offers you flexibility and more control, while consoles are giving you much easier way to play the games, just plug-n-play - different strokes for different folks.

I hadn't played Metaphor until it was on GamePass and I can tell you I vastly prefer Clair Obscur. That said, I have never been a big fan of the Persona games.

andy8542m ago

Same tbh. I love persona but Metaphor felt dated to me personally. Expedition 33 definitely felt fresh.

CrimsonWing6930m ago

I could not get into Metaphor, whatsoever and I’m a huge Persona fan. I feel like Metaphor is incredibly overrated, but… and I know this is blasphemy, but I think Clair Obscur is slightly overrated as well.

I think that was on me though because everyone said it was the best thing since sliced bread and when I fired it up, I thought it was ok. I’d take Yakuza Like a Dragon, FF7 Remake/Rebirth, and Persona over it… heck I actually think Lost Odyssey is better. But to each their own.

RavenWolfx27m ago

Lost Odyssey is pretty underrated. Clair Obscur felt like a combo of Lost Odyssey, Legend of Dragoon, and some Shadow Hearts: Covenant, all amazing games that I love.

gurp24m ago(Edited 20m ago)

I love all of the persona games, but I cannot get into Metaphor for some reason, I am trying to play it
Clair Obscur is good, but I do not like the battle system, both Metaphor and Clair have great stories
I just finished Clair yesterday
Both Metaphor and Clair are very slightly overrated
