Naughty Dog Says Tomorrow's Last of Us Day Stream Won't Have Game or TV News

Will focus on "art, merch, and more".

Naughty Dog has announced it'll be celebrating The Last of Us Day - its annual hat tip to the community - again this year, but has warned fans not to expect any game or TV show news.

Is that multiplayer EVER going to drop? Like good lord... I love Naughty Dog so much, they're definitely in my top 5, if not top 3 developers. At this point, it's just getting ridiculous though. There's never even been a trailer for it, right? What the heck is going on with that? Just kind of baffled by the lack of info because I was looking forward to that quite a bit before Last of Us 2 even dropped.

Last gen, 2 years after the PS4 released we had Uncharted 4 but we didn't get a new IP from them.

3 years after the PS5 dropped and we've had nothing new from NaughtyDog and still no sign of a new IP just a remake we really didn't need.

The only thing we know is coming is an online focused multiplayer game and while Factions was a great addition to the original TLOU it's not like any of us wanted a full on multiplayer game spin off to take time away from other things. We could have at least had a reveal trailer of their new IP by now by their second team if the focus wasn't so split.

Feels like they care more about the TV show, it's all they ever talk about even with the writers / actors strike going on.

starting to get fairly fed up with all the lack of communication from 1st party. Even when the last of us started its hype was more interesting, showing the ants etc and no one knew what the game was about.

Based on their last update and some reading between the lines, it seemed like the work they had done was deemed as scrappable by the Bungie gods. I mean, factions was always kinda niche and this GaaS religion is probably looking for it to be a mainstream hit.
I'm guessing it's scrapped altogether. Maybe ND reworks it to be more accessible to the masses, but Last of Us doesn't seem to fit into the prototypical 3rd person shooter for the masses mold imo

I don't know how they managed to do 3 uncharted and 1 TLOU on PS3 compared to now...Every Studio needs way more time now. This is a big problem with AAA industry. I think Sony should also have AA studios to make great games on shorter timeline. it could cost 30-40 dollars

Insomniac Games are the new flagship PlayStation studio in my eyes. Naughty dog peaked with Uncharted 2. They can’t get a new game out the door or even a multiplayer game for the matter.

That said, I'm really wondering what's going on with Wolverine, which was announced two years ago now.

I wouldn't expect to hear anything about that until Spiderman is out. There were some updates from team members saying that they have started production of Wolverine now that Spiderman is complete. Given their pace, I wouldn't be surprised if the game is in fact still on track for 2024.

For me it was Crack In Time. I played the PS4 R&C and enjoyed it, but it was a step down in complexity and length. Worse yet, the first 30fps R&C game. Now, the game is great on PS5, and enjoy it over the new one on PC, because it doesn’t stutter.

Loved Up Your Arsenal as well. There’s has not been a better title for a game ever since!

The longer it takes to make Factions, the more I expect micro transactions and new animations for sale. I expect a low price but cosmetic and animations galore to add on to your character.

However they used Part II to literally ruin the pair

Joel was killed in a horribly written way because of his sudden stupidity and Ellie’s personality did a total 180 and she wasn’t herself.

Yet despite the fact they shove Abby and Lev down our throats they never really used them for marketing…they’ll still use two characters who we will never get to see again in the same light.

Compared to the first game it just wasn’t well written. There so many plot holes and character changes

For example

The first game showed us that getting from point A to point B is a massive life threatening task, it took Joel and Ellie almost a year to go across America where they came across so much trouble. Hurdles, diversions and more.

Ellie just casual getting to Seattle, especially coming back from there with all their injuries and the same with coming to and from Santa Barbara was just insane to me

The first TLOU had an entire game showing how dangerous these treks are while Part II it’s like…”cutaway / fade to black” worthy where we just fill in the gaps inbetween, like it was nothing.

I agree with Elda, TLOU2 story was really good. Most folks disappointed at the story was because of what happened to Joel & Ellie being angry and wanting revenge. The story was about revenge between the 2. I was ok how everything played out which was unexpected, some enjoyed that and some like you didn't and that's ok. TLOU2 is a great game that sold 10 million copies, bad games with bad stories and bad gameplay don't sell 10 million copies within 2 years. Word of mouth that it's bad would have halted sales after it released, that wasn't the case.

It sold 4 million within it's first day or weekend then all of a sudden such an "amazing" game to one of the most universal critically acclaimed games of all time with 7 years worth of hype then took 2-3 years to gain another 6 million? How does that work? I think the sudden drop off tells you everything, it gained those sales at the start purely on hype.

Ghost of Tsushima, a BRAND NEW IP, (and a game that featured TWO revenge stories) was just behind at 9 million in 2022, which released a month later.

I'm sorry but that's insane to me, TLOU2 should have been miles ahead, like God of War levels of sales but it didn't.

While 10 million to us looks great, with how universally acclaimed the first game was, the 7 years worth of hype, the love for these characters, the marketing being bigger and so on...this game should have done a hell of a lot more than 10 million and deep down despite people on here wanting to brush that off, you know its true.

I mean hell, we don't even have a single player expansion for it like Left Behind, if it was that popular and successful for Sony they'd have gotten them to work on a DLC and would have fast tracked Factions out but they haven't. Instead they capitalized on the show adaptation by getting a Remake out, a Remake we didn't really need. Also they don't even show their new characters off that much these days, it's always the original Joel and Ellie, no Abby, Lev, Jesse, Dina etc

I'm fine with your opinion but next time don't wave that 10 million sales around like it's a crowning achievement for them.

I will throw 10 million sales out there because it's fact. Any game that continues to sell over a 2 year period and those sales are 10 million as of June 2022 is a good game period. If it wasn't it sales would have stopped after 2 to 4 months after it released. Just because you and some others don't like TLOU2 because of your reasons do not make TLOU2 a bad game. Something you should recognize instead of deflecting that fact.

Didn't say it wasn't a fact, I'm just saying it's not the crowning achievement you make it out to be, the fact is these sales should be way higher for such a anticipated sequel and also the multiplayer would have been out by now along with at least a good DLC similar to Left Behind

Call of Duty, Assassins Creed, Pokemon etc do insane numbers but they are disappointing at their core where even the main fanbase is complaining most of the time. We both know games that are bad or lacking still sell over time, there's so many examples of this.

Regardless of the game, no game just suddenly stops producing sales, that's insane thinking, the fact is it had such a strong start with 4 million and then slowly took 2 years to just get to 10 million. A sudden drop like that? It's unheard of.

Look at God of War, this was a reboot which many were sceptical of with the new changes made to gameplay along with the franchise being fatigued to hell and back and it still sold 10 million just over a year.

Also did you see how heavily discounted this game was after only a few months? By Christmas it was going for like 9.99 at times at GAME while Ghost of Tsushima, Final Fantasy VII Remake and even Doom Eternal were higher priced despite releasing roughly the same time. If you have to reduce your game that much, despite the number of awards it had gotten then that says something.

If there's nothing announced at gamescom or VGAs im officially going from frustrated to pissed. I really cannot wrap my head around why we haven't gotten announcements from Suckerpunch, Naughty Dog, Bluepoint, Bend, or Asobi, it's been roughly 3yrs for all of these studios since their last big project. We should've been heard something by now.

This series was fantastic and will def. replay 2 again if they ever remaster it like the rumors suggest. I would love to see something new from ND. Would be neat to get a sci fi game based on the comics or a hero game based on the cards.
