Texas Chain Saw Massacre Dev Praises Game Pass; Calls It A “No-Brainer Decision” To Release On There

Ive been addicted to this game, its so tense. Especially with voice comms. I wouldve assumed it was just Dead by Daylight (which i loathed) if it werent on Gamepass, so thanks to Gamepass in this case

I really enjoy the experience and feel that GUN media did a lot better compared to FF13.

Again, I think games like this are perfect for gamespass and devs are saying the same thing. If you are bringing out a new IP and you aren’t getting the hype around it for a big launch, or maybe you don’t think it will sell well based on what other games release in the same time period. Gamespass works perfectly for titles like that. Movie license games are firmly placed in the no fly zone for most people. On PC the game had plenty of betas and chances to get some attention around it. On console it’s the opposite.
Anyway, releasing titles that WILL sale or you believe strongly in as it gets closer to release do not make sense to have on gamespass until AFTER sales have slowed and it’s time to start discounting it.

A new Gran Theft Auto would be throwing money in a fire on gamespass. Even a smaller title with big traction.

Texas chainsaw massacre, the Indiana Jones game, or even a game like pocket bravery would be great for gamespass. It’s not that they would be bad games, it’s just how many people would have paid full price day one for them?

I 100% agree with you and share the same view. My problem with Games Pass is that it's a terrible idea for your system sellers, the biggest games you can offer. I'll never be convinced that Games Pass is a better deal than Grand Theft Auto or Spider-Man or God of War selling the multi-million copies they do with massive production values and budgets. And until I see it I won't believe that Games Pass can produce such quality. Like all streaming services, the underlying push to always have new offerings will eventually diminish quality.

However Games Pass is a perfect opportunity for smaller developers or games that like you said don't have the marketing power behind them. Games that need a player base more or as much as they need sales.

Yeah, a lot of people like to rag on GP for cannibalizing game sales (and it’s true, it does), but exposure for your new IP is just as important for many devs. They already have their guaranteed money and gamers will be more likely to dip their toe into the game if it doesn’t come with any extra cost. If the game is fun, and gamers want to continue playing it, then they’ll be more willing to buy the game if/when it drops off of GP.

My problem with gamepass and PS premium is that there is no incentives to make single player games with no dlc, Microtransactions or season passes. In the long run I fear that gamepass and PS premium will just be a paywall for free to play games. But who knows, maybe I'm completely wrong. And atleast for me if a see a game released on a subscription service that I don't have, I won't buy it for the platform I do have. This because I see it as overpriced if it is released for "free" Behind a sub paywall. Not that is a actuall fact, but just the psychology behind my thinking.

In the short term gaming subs can be very good for players and devs. But in the long term I'm afraid what it will do to the industry, for consumers and developers alike.

raWfodog290d ago (Edited 290d ago )

Yeah I’m not interested in either GP or PS+ higher-tier subs. I only have PS+ Essential because it’s needed for multiplayer access. But I’m sure others enjoy the services and, as the article stated for this particular dev (and I’m sure other devs) it was a boon for them because they have an unproven, new IP that many gamers may not have been interested in investing in.

Then don't play it. Nobody asked you worm.

last I checked she can voice her opinion in a forum about games. Why so defensive about games on a certain platform? You Xtwats are like Sith, always deal in absolutes. When you get off mom's tit, you'll learn there's a lot of grey in the world.

How mature of you calling me names over a cheap tired video game. Smh.

Atari6052B289d ago

Well said cammers. This is Elda he pushes woke games only and everything else is garbage just read his comments on rockstar games. Also he sent me a private message calling me names ... Then has a go at you saying complaining your calling him names.. what double standards really shows his true character!

Shacknews reports that Black Tower Studios is already well underway in the onboarding process for The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. The studio has a history of co-development with Gun Interactive, having previously worked on Friday the 13th: The Game. While it may not be the absolute best asymmetrical multiplayer game, the fact that it maintains a steady player base for nearly a third of a year is impressive.
