From commercial animation to indie game debut success: The story of Ember Lab

Gamesindustry writes: "Ember Lab has been around since 2009, starting out as a company specialising in commercial animation and digital content. But a decade later it would make its mark in video games with the release of Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

So how did its co-founders, COO Josh Grier and chief creative Michael Grier, go from wanting to become filmmakers to making a game that would catch the attention of Sony just as it was preparing to unveil PlayStation 5?

Speaking to the two softly spoken brothers at Develop, the difference between media matters less than being able to tell a story with original content."

Loved the game!

Wish there was a sequel or something new coming from them!

Been really quiet for a long time now!

PunksOnN4G309d ago (Edited 309d ago )

there already working on its next Ps5/PC title.. just saying Sony should give them Jak and Dex.... IDK i feel they would do a really good job with it or sly cooper i started streaming sly cooper to my Ps5 and man.... i miss those kinds of games tbh u dont see many like it anymore!

toxic-inferno308d ago

As long as they keep the gameplay simple without sacrificing the challenge, it would be a good match.

Though if they did end up making a Jak and Daxter game, I would hope Naughty Dog would at least act as consultants. Even the thought of a new Jak and Daxter without ND's input makes me anxious.

Sly would be good too. Neither franchise gets the love it deserves these days.

PunksOnN4G308d ago

@Toxic Yeah I miss Sly cooper im glad the PS PLUS streaming is much much better for simple titles like this i still have problems with game like Fear and Heavenly sword i hope Sony fixes this more one day

Storm23307d ago

I loved it too! Just finished it and almost done with the platinum. Fun world to explore. Can't wait to see what they do next

Andy_Dee307d ago

Got the platinum a while back!

Intense and also a challenge but so satisfying when you grab it! Just push through! :D

Man this studio got hit with another round? it sucks there know for dead by daylight not saying that its a bad game because its not but because its from 2016 and this team has tossed a game out almost every year sense then but each game got worse and worse sales/notice.

meet your maker all done by them has 8 players playing on average via steam

Stuff like this looks like alot of work was done but so few sales this is what no doubt is causing all the layoffs.

January this year they laid off 45 people

95 is this week so this news is new

Just back to back waves of layoffs.

Thats great. Good third party games should be on as many platforms as possible

TGG_overlord3d ago

I think the Xbox players will be really happy with this one.

LoveSpuds3d ago

Not unless it's given away on GP, otherwise, this great game will barely be noticed.

RaiderNation3d ago

@LoveSpuds that's unfortunate because Kena is a terrific game. Xbox gamers should come off their wallets and buy this because it's deserving to be purchased.

neutralgamer19923d ago

Hopefully gamers support this game instead of thinking every game should be on GP

lelo2play2d ago

After 3 years... anybody care?

Relientk773d ago

I love Kena: Bridge of Spirits. I'm excited to see Ember Lab's next game is.

TGG_overlord3d ago

Imo, they are very talented and creative. So I wish them the best of luck with their future game projects.

RhinoGamer883d ago

Great game and loved the lead...buy it peeps!

TGG_overlord3d ago

Very much so, and it's a must buy title imo.

LoveSpuds3d ago

Yeah, superb game and despite it getting a decent reception, I still think a little under appreciated overall.

Heck of a decent challenge too, some of the later bosses were pretty brutal.

CantThinkOfAUsername2d ago

Not the type of game Xbox fanbase would play.

Sonic18813d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Might as well just put it on gamepass since it won't sell that well on Xbox. Putting it on gamepass will get more gamers to play a good game. It barely sold well on Playstation and PC 🤔

TGG_overlord3d ago

Now now Sonic, don't bully the new kids on the block aiight.

Charlieboy3333d ago

@ Ironmike Ok, now I expect you to provide proof that YOU bought it then, bigmouth. Sonic is not being negative he is stating facts. No one is going to buy this on Xbox.....including you dumbass.

Every PlayStation Studios game available now on Windows PC

Windows Central writes: "Many PlayStation Studios games that are ported to PC get dedicated PS5 DualSense support, which allows users to experience haptic feedback and adaptive trigger support without actually having to own a PS5.

According to Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, it's still the company's intent to launch the bigger single-player games on PS5 first, before later bringing the games to PC. This might not be the case for multiplayer games however, which are considered okay to launch simultaneously on console and PC."

My guess is after god of war. Probably last of us 2 that's a almost 4 year old game now and by the time it's released on pc it will be more than 4 years old or close to 5.

Elda5d ago

Every old Playstation game that is now on PC.

shinoff21835d ago

Right. I definitely see what a headlined from a website named windows central was trying to do though. It's cute little wordplay to help out the green box

Flewid6382d ago (Edited 2d ago )

They are a unique website for sure.

Flewid6385d ago

Are PlayStation games no longer good or worth playing once they are old?

Elda5d ago

I'm guessing my comment went over your head.

Flewid6382d ago

I'm guessing you were never really saying anything that made sense.

Elda2d ago

You're still ranting on an old article. Your comment to me 2 days ago didn't make any sense including this recent one. It's time to move on, get out of your basement & go on about life.

Flewid6382d ago

Ooof, I had no idea you were this down bad. Sorry to hear you hate life.

Ah well....stay salty! 👍

Elda2d ago

"You were this down bad" What does that even mean? LMFAO!! Please learn how to articulate words in sentences or better yet take some English classes.
