Those guys just bought a gazillion studios/IP and now they have to close/cancel a lot of these. That's what happens when you flash your checkbook around but you don't even know what to do with the things you just bought. Reminds me of a certain american company...👀

This happens with EVERY large scale acquisition regardless of the industry. When companies buy companies, there’s always a reduction of crossover staffing (usually corporate positions like HR, Marketing, Sales Reps, etc… all get the boot from the company being bought), in order to reduce the employee count and thus reduce the expense of paying all these new employees.

The restructure on game focus also makes sense. They have all these new IPs now, and spending time making B-tier titles like Evil West, doesn’t make sense, when they can be making Tomb Raider, Soul Reaver, Deus Ex, Marvel IPs (Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy), Star Wars IPs (even though there are too many IMO), Borderlands, Dark Horse Comics Games like The Witcher, Stranger Things, Mob Psycho, Avatar, Hellboy, Sin City, and more.

They have the potential to go from a niche publisher, to becoming one of the more established publishers when it comes to A - AAA IP over the next 5 - 10 years, if to your point MS doesn’t try to buy them out first.

ThinkThink319d ago

Yeah, I get that same Google vibe from them as well.

Sonic1881319d ago

When you say certain American company are you talking about Microsoft?

porkChop319d ago

This is happening because a $2B deal fell through at the last minute.

Tacoboto319d ago

The certain American company partnered with Crystal Dynamics and CD is just fine.

How's Aspyr doing on that KOTOR Remake partnership with a certain Japanese company?

This what happens when you eat things evenly you know what happens at the end lol.

I really wished MS bought Crystal Dynamics. I hate that they're owned by this company. They clearly don't know what they are doing.

Sciurus_vulgaris319d ago

Crystal Dynamics is likely unaffected by the restructuring because of its development contract for Perfect Dark. The studio is receiving money from MS, and doesn’t yet have to rely on sales revenue to stay open.

so...in short, you want a Xbox exclusive Tomb Raider running at 30fps?

ChasterMies318d ago

I hope that folks now understand why Square Enix sold all these studios for cheap. Paying developers is expensive. Glad to see Crystal Dynamix intact. “Guardians of the Galaxy” was a triumph.

ROCKY28318d ago

All companies will be affected in some way from this restructure - including the internal teams at CD
Department personal will be laid off based on internal budgets

Should have happened a long time ago. People wanting refunds after 50 hours in game.

fsfsxii8h ago

Pc gamers will take this as an excuse to pirate things

KyRo8h ago

I'm not sure why you're getting disgrees. Whilst not all PC gamers are petty, an awful lot of them are lol

Crows908h ago

Entirely untrue. Not any more petty than console gamers. The only large difference is console gamers don't have much of a choice.

qalpha8h ago

Daily reminder that 'TheGamer' is a corporate-generated, anti-gamer, anti-consumer, clickbait web site. They are mostly A.I. generated articles that villainize gamers. They provide nothing positive and actively try to provoke and divide the community through extreme view points and politics. Do not give them any clicks.

Inverno8h ago

Only scumbags? As if people don't play their games on console put in the most amount of hours and return it to GameStop and trade it in for another game. But also how many people are actually do this? And what games have been allowed to be refunded?

DustMan8h ago

You can refund any game you've purchased as long as it hasn't been longer than two weeks, and you've played less than 2 hours. I wish they would change it to 3 hours because some RPG's have so much exposition that you may only get an hour total of complete gameplay. That's my only knock on it. I've refunded plenty of stuff I was just curious to try. I typically stay away from Early Access titles which are the only ones affected by this policy change.

Inverno7h ago

Apparently early access doesn't count, only complete games with a play early preorder bonus.

Gaming4Life19818h ago

I definitely know if I want a refund in 2 hours.

Cacabunga1d 3h ago

Hopefully doesn’t take them a complete gen to release it

TheColbertinator22h ago

Good. Something not boring, not one of those "make your own game" crap and also on Steam would be nice.

I too like to look for things in the wrong places.

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

banger882d ago

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb19811d 11h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein1d 10h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.
