"According to an update on the official Japanese website, the game will launch in the fall of 2023 for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC."

Square Enix really fucking hates Xbox doesn't it. I wonder how much MS gave them for Octopath Traveler? Must've been a small fortune.

MaximusPrime_394d ago

Small number of Japanese got Xbox. Square Enix will not make any profit if they decide to sell games on Xbox. So they did the right thing. It's nothing to do with what you call hatred of Xbox..

I've visited Japan few years ago and Microsoft consoles were nowhere to be seen. Not in homes or advertising.

Pretty much, also going by how they receive what is a flop or not with there high expectations and the forecast to investors. Having people purchase games like Sony is there path going by that.

porkChop393d ago

The majority of Square Enix's sales are from the West though. So saying it's because Xbox doesn't sell in Japan doesn't make sense.

Japanese games don't sell well on Xbox. Even those with shooting elements. RE4 remake flopped on Xbox in the UK.

shinoff2183393d ago (Edited 393d ago )

Not surprised. Devs aren't gonna be able to make money on xbox unless it's on gamepass they get a deal. But selling. Hell naw ms put the nail in the coffin of game sales with day one releases.

I say this trollingly because obviously I know some of yall do

Looking forward to anything dragon quest. Dq11 was one of the best jrpgs I've played in years. Way better then ff lately imo. Maybe not ff7 remake it did kinda grow on me

Altus , NIS ,and a bunch of other Japanese devs skip Xbox too. It’s not some conspiracy or any company hating Xbox that’s just stupid .
Businesses are about money and they go where it is at. And clearly Xbox isn’t somewhere they believe they will make enough money or the risk isn’t worth taking . Nobody who loves Japanese games but an Xbox to play them because Xbox fans as a whole don’t buy them enough and they don’t even buy enough of the western games anymore either . Some western devs may skip Xbox too because of the lack of sales and having to make two versions for Xbox S and X on one disc . Extra work for what ?

Octopath Traveller is pretty much A at best in terms of budget. so selling several tens of thousands on the xbox might be making them money already.

It’s nice to see Dragon Quest finally adopt a worldwide release. DQXII should be the first mainline title to do so next

Damn Square Enix really does not want to release their 2023 games on a particular platform

Just wait till Kingdom Hearts IV skips that same platform next

blackblades394d ago

Sony and Nintendo might as well co-own square at this point.
