From Digital Foundry: "Gotham Knights has some big shoes to fill as a follow-up to the brilliant Batman Arkham Knight, an early last-gen title that pushed graphical and gameplay boundaries. Even today, the Rocksteady game impresses with a gritty, rain-soaked rendition of Gotham City swarming with criminals. Unfortunately, Gotham Knights fails to hit the same heights from a gameplay perspective, while there are big questions about its technical make-up. Why limit performance to 30 frames per second? Why were the last-gen versions cancelled with little technical ambition here? And after Arkham Knight, how come the game looks visually underwhelming?
The cancellation of the last-gen versions is puzzling because this is a thoroughly last-gen title in terms of its basic visual make-up - expect to see decent-looking PBR materials, a baked global illumination system, and extensive TAA coverage. Even relative to eighth-gen standards though, this isn't great stuff. Characters and other dynamic objects often stick out dramatically from the environment, for instance, lacking any sort of cohesion within the GI system. This is a common issue when dealing with baked GI of course, but the results here are often poor - with characters often looking like they have no integration into the game lighting at all, weirdly glowing. When lots of dynamic lights are onscreen there's a closer match between the lighting systems, as would be expected, but under primarily indirect lighting the results can look odd."
Gotham Knights is set to be removed from the PS Plus Extra and Premium game catalog alongside other games in October, 2024.
Lol, oh boy. I just bought the Dragon Quest Builders 2 Season Pass DLC last week, despite not owning the game on Playstation. I know it's a risk we are accepting, but it's just funny that the announcement of removal comes 1 week after buying. Oh well. Looks like I'll be buying the game. Again. I owned it on Switch, but my kids wanted to play multiplayer across the PS4 and PS5.
Gotham Knights was very bland. Losing the Dragon Quest games though is a different story.
I downloaded Gotham knights months ago but never played it. I guess I'll get it for £3.99 on PC and free memory up on PS5
The games for Humble Choice Bundle for the month of August, 2024, have begun to be revealed, and they include Gotham Knights.
Ahmed from eXputer: "Gotham Knights is considered a critical failure by Batman fans, but I think it's pretty good without comparing it with the Arkham games."
When it came to gamepass I thought it couldn't be as bad as people said it was. I was wrong cause it's terrible and feels very generic. Maybe it needed more development time and no live service crap.
It’s an average game and no matter how we spin it it would have still been an average game. Publishers chasing live service most fault but if it happens with natural growth it could happen. Look at helldivers 2 and than look at suicide squad. You have Harry Potter game generating 1 billion but WB still want to chase live service and they want future games from their studios to focus on GAAS
Man... if only Arkham Knight had an uncapped frame rate. It would run at 60 on Series and PS5 by virtue of the better hardware. The WB guys just took their PS4/XBO code and dumped it to PS5/Series with no other effort. It looks last gen and runs last gen but has shiny reflections... "our work is done here boys"
Called this one lol.
Something didn't seem right from the first gameplay reveal
Ok it s not good....but stop comparing it to a rocksteady game...it s NOT!! arkham knight...so why compare it?? And those stupid reviewers....some like it...some not. Done.
Who would you rather be Batman or Robin?
