Star Ocean: The Divine Force has a demo out on consoles and The Outerhaven decided to go hands-on, to get some impressions of the demo. It's not bad, but it could be better.
Also included are Star Ocean The Divine Force, Sniper Ghost Warrior Contracts 2, Odin Sphere Leifthrasir, Unpacking.
Hot damn those are some high quality games right there. I've been meaning to give 13 Sentinels a go, just haven't had the time to get around to it.
13 Sentinels is a must play if you haven't. Like, I can't praise enough what an awesome story and set of characters that game has.
The gaming community lately makes jokes about companies making games that look like "PS3" or "PS2" games. While this is such a nasty dig, there may be some truth to this in the case of tri-Ace.
Sad really. I used to love these guys but man...they just aren't what they used to be.
The Cod games have been using an engine built in the mid 90s. Nothing wrong with using an old engine if they update it. Bioshock used UE2 and looked better than most UE3 games. Arkham knight used UE3 and looked better than most UE4 games.
Sh it does suck but I enjoyed star ocean 6 the most out of any game last year. I thought it was solid af start to finish. My favorite game that year.
I'd love for Sony to get ahold of them.
Star Ocean: The Divine Force no longer appears to have the anti-tampering Denuvo DRM technology in the Steam version.
It doesn't need denuvo
Looks mediocre at best
Maybe it's a phenomenon in Asia
Na, its kinda bad amd couldve been better with a better budget like FF7. Bad lip sync the worse I ever seen, models are eh, no life in the scenes. Its 2022 I know they could've done better but like I said they to focused on the 100th final fantasy then put more budget on SO.
I really liked the demo, I already pre-ordered the game. The moving around the land is pretty fast, the combat is fast and fun. I didn't really understand it yet, but it was fun. All I understood with the D.U.M.A, is that you can launch yourself at enemies. The combat is real time and you have AP, so when you run out of AP you just roll out of danger till you get AP back.
The exploring is pretty fun also, you can reach high places by launching yourself up with the D.U.M.A and then float down.
Also, it seems you can have private conversations with the characters, which seems to serve as something like the bonding points from games like Persona 5 or the Trails of Cold Steel series. The bonding points are usually so that you can choose which characters you would like to deepened your relationship with.
I enjoyed the demo. Of course it wouldve been better with a ff budget but i think they did good with what they probably had budget wise. Also want to point out star ocean never really had the ff budget its always been a secondary jrpg from what i remember way back during snes. I aint tripping off a little sync issue. The gameplay seemed fun graphics were straight(graphics also aint everything). My two most wanted games out right now are star ocean and last of us. Just dont got it like that lol. My next most wanted is sea of stars.
Anyway my only complaint is come on square bring the remastered 2nd star ocean to the west damn it.
sad to say, as a fan of the series since the 2nd game, the series died after 4th game. Unlike Tales of Arise which finally became up to date with what a jrpg should be, this game feels like a ps2 game. Animations, graphics, gameplay, all of it is so bad. I was hoping so bad that it was going to be good. Sigh
A series I always wanted to like. I bought Last Hope on 360. I thought it was alright. But this is a futuristic space series that always seems to end up in villages with swords and elves.
The last one bombed, iirc. I suspect if this one does too, it'll definitely be the end of the series. People were surprised the LAST one was even made.
Edit: And man, that protag with the 80s metal hair wig just looks bad.
