Ghost of Tsushima Was Key to Releasing Like A Dragon: Ishin in the West

The developers behind the latest Like A Dragon remake were not confident in its success in the west until Ghost of Tsushima came out.

I still remember how those journalists were complaining about ghost of tsushima. It's funny that now we know that because of that game a lot more Japan or Asian inspired games will be coming to the West that I guess in their western eyes will better portray those cultures.

I've always loved samurai/ninja feudal japan games. The dark atmosphere these games always intrigued me and I love katana fighting. This game and rise of the ronin I am very excited for.

It’s a shame that Japanese developers have been so insecure about the appeal of their own culture & history to the rest of the world, that too often they believed many of ‘their’ games simply wouldn’t do well with a foreign audience, so they kept so many cool ideas, games, comics, movies, shows, etc, mostly to themselves.

The Nioh devs also stated how shocked/surprised they were with the love and success for the first Nioh game.

Personally, I love seeing stories from all over the world. There so much interesting stuff to discover when you’re open to giving it a chance.

I mean, i'm really happy they finally did this. But people were begging (petitions, tweets, emails, facebook and stuff) Sega for years to release Ishin and Kenzan in the west, but Sega was completely ignoring them. Really glad this is changing to the better.

I've bought every physical release of Yakuza games (3, 4, Dead Souls, both Kiwami, 6, 0, both Judgement games and even Fist of the North Star and Binary Domain). That studio is amazing, it's hit after hit. Especially Binary Domain, was very surprising game. Too bad they didn't make a part 2 though.

Don’t be fooled though. I love Yakuza for the great story telling but the gameplay is outdated and not even in the same ballpark as Ghost of Tsushima.

Im not a game developer or do I know how much work would it be, but how hard would it be just to add English subtitles and menu to all Japanese games, so that way, they could release any game straight away to English speaking territories, just like how PAL games have UK, and all European languages in a lot of their games.

Ive played some Japanese games before and half the games had half English anyway, so it really makes no sense to me, but again I know nothing about game development, but why put any English in them at all then if its too hard to do the whole thing?
