Less than a quarter of Steam users have a DirectX 10 rig

Valve's latest hardware survey reveals an interesting snapshot of PC gamers using Steam

If you're concerned that your PC is becoming something of a relic compared with the latest kit, then don't worry, as you're certainly not alone. Valve has just released the latest statistics from its November hardware survey via Steam, which it now plans to release on a monthly basis, and it shows that most Steam users are a fair way off the cutting edge of technology.

To be honest I expected something like 1/10

BrunoM5635d ago

Iam with you even tho not as bad i was at about 3/10 ...

one thing is for sure now with the ps3 and the 360 out is not alot of people that are gona go every 6months pay another 300 to 500 buck on a new card or more ram ...

im ok at what im now i can run far cry2 good so ya but i WONT spend any more money on it from now on is ps3 games and some (if good) 360 games..

The story is kinda of misleading.

Almost 45% of the people have a DX10 Video card. But only about ~21% have vista installed that enable the DX10 support.

I was going to buy the new Nvidia GX295, but then I read that they will have a completely new series out this spring and I figure I can just wait it out.

stevenhiggster5635d ago

I have got a DX10 capable rig, I just refuse to put windows vista on it. I used to have it on there and yes dx10 is much better looking than 9 but Vista just annoyed me soo much I could do without dx10.

JsonHenry5635d ago

I use Vista x64 and I have no problems at all with it. What about it annoyed you?

kwyjibo5635d ago

I have a DX10 capable system, and choose not to install Vista.

I'm not paying Microsoft to slow my PC down with features that I do not want for an extra smudge of graphical sheen.

evrfighter5635d ago

I also have a dx10 capable rig and own vista and xp. However I chose to stick it out with xp until windows 7 is released. I kept having problems with random bf2+vent crash to desktops that seem to go away when xp is installed. It handles fairly smoothly and responsively I'll give it that. However I don't feel as if I'm the one in control of the OS. Hard to explain really...

JsonHenry5635d ago

The only reason I installed Vista x64 was so I can use all 8 gigs of RAM on my system. Not because I just had to have DX10.

stevenhiggster5635d ago

It was mostly the fact that none of my software worked with it and I wasn't going out to buy new versions of it and some of the stuff I used for my dj-ing didn't even have vista compatible versions available. Add to that the fact that I hated having to click things 23 times before I could do anything 'are you sure thats what you want to do' yes 'really' yes 'final answer' FU** Sake just open the FU**in folder you piece of Sh12 OS!

That sort of thing really ;-)

for little benefit, IMO. Extra eye-candy for slower gameplay? No thank you.
