Star Ocean: The Last Hope US Box Art Revealed

SCRAWL: "Square Enix have revealed the official box art for Star Ocean: The Last Hope for the Xbox 360 through the Square Enix Members Blog. We must say, the Edge Maverick silhouette does look pretty freakin' fantastic. I'd say this beats the Japanese box art. Your thoughts?"

Looks great just like the Mass Effect boxart. This game will be superb.

La Chance5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Star Ocean 3 was excellent.

Star Ocean 4 looks even better.

@thereaperson : I played it and it was excellent.Incredible environment , deep characters and very good plot.Ive never played SO1 OR SO2 so if SO3 was the worst....then geez SO1 and SO2 must have been out of this world !

@pizzaki below : lol , exactly , the worst Star Ocean game was better than 99% of the jrpgs of last gen.

thereapersson5610d ago

SO 3 was actually the worst of the series. Take that as you will, though...

Pizzagaki5610d ago

It was the worst, and still AWESOME!
This shows how AWESOME! the Star Ocean series is.

thereapersson5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Story-wise, It's one of the most expansive RPG's I've ever played. If you can manage to find a copy, I highly recommend it. It is a PSone game though, so you'll need a Playstation, Playstation 2, or Playstation 3 with Backwards Compatability to take advantage of it.

edit:

My series terminology isn't the best, because the games have different names. By SO 1, I mean Star Ocean: The Second Story, so I suppose that would mean Star Ocean 2 if you are being precise.

SO: The Second Story is the PSone Star Ocean, and is my favorite.

@ UKilinme

Yes, the game works great on the PS3.

ukilnme5610d ago

@ thereapersson

Will a 60GB PS3 do the trick?

barom5610d ago

Actually if it's a PS1 game then all PS3s can play it. ALL PS3 has PS1 backwards compatibility

SaiyanFury5609d ago

I wonder what the PS3 version's boxart will look like. Eternal Sonata's was different from the 360 version's.

callahan095609d ago

I've never played a Star Ocean game. But this one looks pretty damn good. I'm glad it's a prequel not a sequel, so I can play it and understand it, and if I like it, I can get the remake of the original for PSP and go from there. If this game is said by my RPG-fan friends to be good, then I'll definitely pick it up.

Why o why5610d ago

its not there because its not a real exclusive just a timed one = ms paid again probably

Menchi5610d ago

It's a timed exclusive, always has been. 360 owners just assumed it was a full exclusive, because you know, the 360 is the only console that is allowed system exclusives.

It'll be released on PS3, roughly 6~9 months later.

La Chance5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

Wheres the PS3 version ?

Oh ! Nowhere to be seen.

By the way even if MSFT did pay at least they pay for good games.

Sony pay for games like Haze...you lucky guys !

@heyheyhey below : OF COURSE they did.Its the year 2007 , the PS3's future is looking very gloomy , 360 and PC version are in development and are FPS selling machines. And all of a sudden Free Radical go PS3 exclusive ???!!!

And Free Radical say its so that they can "take advantage of the PS3 hardware".
Did you see Haze ? If yes then you know theres way they were telling the truth. Its more than obvious sony paid for it.

heyheyhey5610d ago (Edited 5610d ago )

lol you think Sony payed for Haze?

and trust me dude.... no "Only On Xbox 360" tag on the box art is multiplatform confirmation straight from the horses mouth... i guess MS decided to stop lying about exclusive games after Lost Planet and BioShock got owned

@Raimon

cheesy ports? that's so 2007

i know you like to believe PS3 still gets worse multiplatform games on a regular basis... but it doesn't... Fallout 3 is getting patched, and that was just about the only game with problems this year (that anyone cares about i mean... yeah maybe some sh!tty games like Baja were worse off... but that just says something about the correlation between the quality of the devs and the quality of their PS3 ports)

especially given the extra development time.... i look forward to Star Ocean on my PS3

EDIT:

actually as i recall in 2007 the future for PS3 was looking very bright... don't tell you've forgotten the "year of the PS3" articles (which were right BTW, despite what ignorants say)... and it's looking brighter still, 360 outselling the PS3 you say? whatever, market fluctuates... Killzone 2 and a price cut can have sorted out in no time... same goes for GT

interesting btw... what happened to "HAHAHA Fony dnt 4 exclusaves lyk MS HAHAHAHAHA"

5610d ago
heyheyhey5610d ago

eeep... you are aware of course that those issues on pertained to the BioShock demo while 2K sorted the game out for the full release?

nah didn't think so.... i mean it's always much more convenient to shoot your mouth off WITHOUT knowing the facts isn't it Raimon?

PlayStation Plus is a secret paradise for RPG fans

From games that digitaltrends DeAngelo Epps has always wanted to play but missed out on, like Odin Sphere, to newer titles that he'd love to re-experience like Yakuza: Like a Dragon, there was enough there to justify diving back in. And those titles aren’t even a small percent of what’s available here. Vanillaware titles, Square Enix games, NIS franchises he’d never even heard of — there’s a whole lot to dig into.

PSPlus is Amazing for RPGs and NIS America, Square Enix and Vanillaware games are perfect for PSPortal.

LG_Fox_Brazil151d ago

Not really a 'secret' but a paradise indeed, I just finished Soul Hackers 2, pretty good, and started Labyrinth of Galleria and I am having a blast. Tons of great RPGs in the PS4/PS5 family

Mr_cheese151d ago

Secret is the click buzzword. Can't have a title without bait these days.

anast151d ago

secret, shadow, hidden

OtterX151d ago

Perfect for playing on the Portal, since rpgs can be such timesinks. For those people who can't stay glued to the TV, it's good to give some freedom around the house, out on the porch or whatever. I haven't picked up a Portal yet, bc of life priorities, but I definitely anticipate picking one up asap and playing more rpgs!

ziggyzinfirion151d ago

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII:Remake for the first time on PS5 and I am freaking blown away by this game so far. I don't know why I waited this long or due to my huge backlog but had to be honest, this game exceeded my expectations.

OtterX151d ago

Yea, story pacing aside, the combat system is pretty killer, especially if you slow it down to play it more like a tactical turned based jrpg!

I actually wish FF16 had gone this route, instead of the DMC route. The FF7:R system gave enough action for those who wanted to play that way, while still appeasing us old school turn based jrpg fans.

Glad you're enjoying!

crazyCoconuts151d ago

Some of the best in game HDR I've ever seen in that game. I liked it a lot too. My first final fantasy game believe it or not

A beginner's guide to Star Ocean

Star Ocean is one of those series that did, and still does, things that others don’t. Think of it as a JRPG for fans of series like Star Trek. The casts regularly involve people from more advanced civilizations getting involved with those who are still growing, even though there are various measures in place to allegedly stop that sort of interference. As a result, people get energy weapons, cyborgs, magic and people who can turn into cats. It is a lot to take in.

Let's see here. There was another classic JRPG series that started this SCI Fi. It was Phantasy Star by Sega. Before Star Ocean, there was Phantasy Star 1-4 on Sega consoles

Bhuahahaha1608d ago

a beginners guide to star ocean....after playing the 3rd game
you've been told that the universe (SO lore) is just a ------------------- and close the book

VsAssassin1608d ago

Yeah, that plot twist didn't work for me. I wish SO3 isn't canon, but it is. Anyway, SE can just sweep SO3 under the rug perhaps by soft rebooting the franchise.

Nerdmaster1608d ago

The first two were so great, among the top RPGs on 16 and 32-bit era. I wonder why it went downhill after that...

LiViNgLeGaCY1608d ago

I still regard the 2nd Story as one of the greatest JRPG's of all time.

ChronoJoe1608d ago

Play the PS1 game and then the PS2 game and then the rest probably aren't worth your time unless you're a superfan of the series. I think that's all you need to know.
