Todd Howard Says Starfield is a Game but Grounded in Reality

Bethesda’s Todd Howard recently explained to media outlet Telegraph in an interview how Starfield combines gaming elements and scientific reality into one.

if there games were so buggy on fantasy level, I wonder how many bugs will be on reality level. how much detail are they going for...interesting to see gameplay. I think it will be more like Fallout in space

Watching the trailer I wondered if they went too realistic and not sci-fi enough. We don’t know about aliens - whether intelligent or creatures that live on other worlds.

Just my initial impression. - Looking forward to seeing more.

I'm feeling that Starfield will be a very deep rpg, and scientifically accurate (as a fan of astrophysics I love this), but I'm hoping they remember games are supposed to be fun and engaging. I'm really hoping this isn't a game where it becomes a chore just to achieve basic things, where everything is a time consuming massive effort, whether that means refueling your ship or grinding resources to get off planet.

That my main issue with seeing a lot of these comments. We don’t know anything really about the game other than who’s making it, it’s an RPG, it involves space, there are ships. So many people are are building hype by piggybacking off each other’s theories on what they hope the game will be.

I remember a few years ago people were hyping what was advertised as “fallout with online co op” and the result was Fallout 76.

I hope starfield turns out awesome and I’ll gladly fork over $60 or $70 for it if it does. Unfortunately we live in a time where a game like Cyberpunk gets hyped like crazy only to release in the state it was in, and Starfield is being developed by a company who released Skyrim on every single system they got it to run on and it still has the same game breaking bugs (story line items getting stuck behind or inside cages) that it had on its original launch date back on November 11, 2011.

Again, I want the game to be awesome, but track records are track records.

You could always just get GamePass, not pay the $60-$70 and play the game. If it isn't your thing, jump to a different game. Didn't lose any money.

Fallout 76 is great now by the way. Not my type of game, but hugly popular. Like, pretty much every GaaS, it launched lacking enough content but needed the players in there so they knew what to build next.

If I was in my 20’s with no real responsibilities I’d get game pass because I had more free time. I don’t game like I used to and basically have time for 1 game at a time. I am not the target demographic for game pass.

I'm in my mid-40s, friends are too. I'd argue we are still the target demographic. It allows us to try more games, find the ones we love to play to completion. An entire year is the price of 2 new games, still a great value for older gamers.

Technically every new IP is a game no one asked for. I wouldn’t say it looks boring only because we basically haven’t seen anything, hold that reservation for when actual gameplay is released.

Hopefully he just means there are no fantasy elements like magic and such. I’m with you though “nasa simulator 2120” would be pretty f***ing dull tbh. I can see that being a passion project though and expecting people to like it. I love space travel and the excitement of new technology, I can’t think of a game that ever made it interesting. My favorite space games are more about the ships like dead space.
