it was the most influential game of the series so yes, it is to this day, the most "relevant one" because of that reason. its the most beloved game of the series too.
like it or not, you can not deny its influence and the mark it left in gaming history.

I'm sorry but I don't give a shit how influential it was, it's not the only FF game and they are suffocating us with FFVII things.
@curtain_swoosh - while I will agree that it had the biggest impact, let's not pretend like IV & VI weren't huge successes in their own rights (2 & 3 on SNES). FF3 is arguably one of the best entries.

I seriously only wrote this because I thought the fan-made memes and content following Sephiroth's SSBU release were funny. I probably should have put "one of the big bads" but that doesn't mean I think it's the only relevant game. You can't write anything without people getting pissed at your articles for the smallest things!!
to be fair, he and Kefka are the most memorable villains of the series tho. theres a reason why people like both of them.
Kefka was by far the most psychopathic villain in the FF series though. Although Kuja was up there.
Sephiroth was at least driven by purpose as opposed to just wanting everything to burn
