Cyberpunk 2077 Will Look Better on PS5 & Series X from Day 1; Future Free Update to Follow

Earlier today developer CD Projekt Red announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would be delayed until November 19. This led some to believe that maybe the game would launch on next generation consoles due to this latest delay and now we have some new details about that.

Well thats good to know because I was about to cancel my pre order after selling my PS4 proin preparation for next gen

crazyCoconuts1833d ago

OMG! Does this mean that PlayStation has somehow cracked the secret code and is able to replicate the advanced technology known as Smart Delivery? HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE?

RpgSama1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

People act as if Sony didn't do it first, it was called Cross Buy, some games you could buy the one version and it would work for PS Vita, PS3 and PS4, but I mean, yeah, smart delivery whatever (as if it's not up to the publisher, there are no mandates by console manufacturers).

1833d ago
timotim1833d ago

What it means is that Sony, like Microsoft, leave it up to devs to support upgrades for their games and CDPR is that type of company to do so. These are the same guys that run a DRM free store on PC...they always choose to do the right thing when it comes to the consumer. However, we still have no cases to look at, nor announcements made of Sony doing this THEMSELVES for their own games. We know Last of Us 2 and Ghost of Tusushi is making its way to PS5...will Sony do what they did with the first Last of Us going from PS3 to PS4 where they charged you for the upgrade? We dont know as of yet. Will the PS5 versions of these games work in a PS4? Because thats what SD brings.

And no one called Smart Delivery a secrete code needing to be cracked...thats simply your own bias talking. Smart Delivery is however a very consumer friendly initiative which theirs no need to take shots at and should be celebrated instead. At the very least Smart Delivery is causing Sony to question how they handle upgrades themselves which can only be a good thing.

crazyCoconuts1833d ago

@timotim I'm poking fun at the idea that Smart Delivery is anything new. Like your comment there "Smart Delivery is causing Sony to question how they handle upgrades themselves" - I find that funny because #1, you don't know what Sony execs are thinking - you're just showing your bias, and #2 - Sony has already been doing this stuff. So yea, i think its funny that you and some others go on and on about consumer friendliness when this is just baked into everyone's pie, no biggie.
Will Sony do this with their own RECENT 1st party titles? I'm thinking yes - I'm holding off buying the latest 2 games just in case. If/when they do it you'll probably give MS the credit for pressuring them, and I'll probably be here to poke fun at that again :-)

timotim1833d ago

No one called it new though...that was just the defense mechanism certain gamers took after Smart Delivery started gaining traction as a brand. And yes...it is causing Sony to take a look at it, again, due to how much traction SD is getting and based on their own actions in the past. We already experienced Sony and the transition from PS3 to PS4...its well documented. The PS4 was dubbed the Remaster Station earlier in the generation Last of Us came out on PS3 in 2013, the remaster that they charged you for came out on PS4 in 2014.
https://store.playstation.c...

Was it free? Did it work both backwards AND forwards? Was it cross-buy? Was it cross-play? You want to "poke fun", yet you dont realize that SD means ALL of these things...not just one or 2 of them. You guys are quick to say Sony does the same, yet cant provide actual instances where they have done ALL of these with their OWN titles...thats what I find funny.

crazyCoconuts1832d ago

So if we're looking at the beginning of this gen, let's look at MS too - I can't find any examples of them offering cross-buy in their 1st party titles. By the time they got around to remastering the original Halos and Gears did you get them free? er.. no. There was this game called Halo: Spartan Assault released same year as the XBOne came out - was that cross buy? No. So don't criticize Sony for at least being timely in offering their remaster as opposed to waiting years like you had to do with MS.
Secondly, since launch, Sony had quite a few cross-buy cross-save titles on PSN that worked across combinations of PS3/PS4/Vita. I would buy a title on the PS store that i could donwload and play on my Vita and PS4 and the saves worked across devices as well. So I could say there is more evidence that Sony pressured MS to pick up on this functionality instead of the other way around?

chiefJohn1171832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

Crossbuy and smart delivery are slightly different from each other

Hakuoro1832d ago

Vokun

That's quite the complaint considering Microsoft in the past 17 years hasn't had any cross buy.

https://www.playstationtrop...

BTW the list is HUNDREDS of games.

timotim1832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

But thats just more goalpost moving Crazy. Xbox fans dont hold the notion that Microsoft was doing Smart Delivery in its entirety (keyword) since the beginning of the generation...but PS fans do of Sony! Its people you you who keep saying that Sony has been doing this...how did you phrase it..."Sony has already been doing this stuff." Smart Delivery isn't new...however, it is a culmination of a lot of features in one package...a package that Sony has NEVER exercised before in its ENTIRETY. So when you go to poke fun, ill be there to correct you, like Im doing right now.

@Hakuoro
Thats a damn lie! The vast majority of Sony's own support of cross-buy came through PS3 and Vita...well Microsoft was doing cross-buy since like 2012 between, console, PC and mobile when Windows Phone was a thing. They have done cross-play since 2007 when they released Shadowrun for Windows Vista and Xbox 360...last 17 years my ass haha.

RangerWalk2671832d ago

Sony does not have the Smart Delivery feature. If they did, there wouldn't be soo many damn remasters on it. Hell, they were even remastering the first-party Sony exclusive games. They are not a trillion dollar company like Microsoft. They will collect the dollar any way possible

Profchaos1832d ago

No it was the same as last gen upgrades are possible with proof of purchase eg I have a disc

Marquinho1833d ago (Edited 1833d ago )

Nice... This is what competition does. Microsoft is pushing a consumer friendly intitiative like Smart Delivery and it looks like Sonys is somehow following suit. I know Sony had crossbuy already, but not for big releases like Cyberpunk. This is a whole new level of customer experience.

Sony on the other hand, demonstrated that BIG 1st party exclusives is what gamers want, and Microsoft has all their resources, including newly founded, recently acquired, and veteran studios working on those for next gen.

Bottomline: Gamers Win.

neutralgamer19921833d ago

smart delivery is a new name for something sony has been doing since ps3/vita (cross buy) maybe this competition you speak of will somehow turn ms game studios into making AAA blockbuster GOTY contenders

Marquinho1833d ago

If PS4 had something like Smart Delivery, TLOU, GOW, Dark Souls and Ratchet & Clank Remasters would've never existed. That's my point.

gigzamillion1832d ago

@timotim

You're right Smart Delivery is a very consumer friendly initiative and was so when Sony did it already and called it Cross-buy.

RangerWalk2671832d ago

@gigzamillion.

Not true. I was able to do that with my PS3 games. I couldn't pop in a disc and it just automatically updated the graphics like my XBX did for me.

THC CELL1833d ago

Ps vr update will come 🤨

Hakuoro1833d ago

So in the end it turned out Microsoft was just marketing publishers decisions to try to make Sony look bad.

How unsurprising.

TGGJustin1833d ago

Yup. They came up with a fancy new word for Cross-Buy to try and make it seem like they were offering something PS5 wasn't. Too bad PlayStation has been doing Cross-Buy for almost a decade now. It was obvious that publishers would offer the free upgrades on PS5 too. All that negativity for nothing.

NeoGamer2321832d ago

That is untrue.

Cross-buy and Smart Delivery have different requirements.

Cross-buy is a vary minimalist approach. You get multiple versions of the same game on different platforms. There could be no graphical improvements, there could be no cross-save, etc.

Smart Delivery requires that the game is built for the technical capabilities of the different platforms and that your saves are across all the platforms.

I am not saying one is better then the other. And I am not denying that marketing has hyperbole... LOL. Both console venders are at hyperbole level 10 right now.

Looper1833d ago

What Sony published games have a free upgrade?

Hakuoro1833d ago

Sony hasn't charged for a single Pro upgrade and they announced all Pro upgrades would be free before Microsoft even released the X and they had cross buy two generations before Microsoft.

TGGJustin1833d ago

Well considering none of their PS5 games are also on PS4 like Halo Infinite will be on Xbox One and Series X none. Now if TLOU 2 and Ghost have some kind of upgrade I'm sure they'll be free.

1833d ago
neutralgamer19921833d ago

looper

can you name some sony games which charged money for upgrades? smart delivery is a new name for cross buy something sony had been offering since ps3. Just like cross play was something sony had been doing with ps3/pc but ms and it's fans made it into a issue

unlike ms sony let's it's games do the talking and TLOU2 95/100 is talking big time right now. unlike the empty promises sony has actual delivered time and time again but please keep up with smart delivery and backwards compatibility(both of which ps5 will be doping with sony touring about it)

Looper1832d ago

So nobody has a Sony published game wi free upgrade for me then?

That's Microsoft tactics as always. That's their tendency. Create smoke, lie and mislead.

RpgSama1833d ago

That's how they roll, it's always half truths and bending facts to their advantage, you would ask them point blank and they would still say that smart delivery it's something new, because they're talking about the marketing term, not what it actually does.

RamRod881833d ago

What smoke, mirrors, and lies? Lol Please I would love to know.

MetalProxy1833d ago

@ramrod...does the “power of the cloud” make your Xbox 10 times stronger remind you of anything?

Minute Man 7211833d ago

@ Metal

The powa of da cloud was straight BS.

RamRod881833d ago

I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about smart delivery. What did MS lie about?

AngelicIceDiamond1833d ago

"lie and mislead." What are they lying about? Did they say it was exclusive some how? Smart Delivery means you can play it up and down the systems at. This is a free upgrade to PS5 not Smart Deliver. You buy a game once you can play it across all of the consoles at will X1, S, 1X, and X Series you can even take it that one game to a friends house and it'll scale to whatever console he or she has. PS4 to PS5 is literally a free upgrade not smart delivery.

I'm quickly losing my patients with this ignorant fanboy crap.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 1833d ago
RamRod881833d ago

I didn't realize MS directly targeted Sony by being transparent about their own features. Or maybe, just maybe MS came up with a very simply way for developers to port their games to next gen(ie smart delivery) and wanted their consumers to know about it.

TGGJustin1833d ago

Except Smart Delivery is no more simple than what Cross Buy already is lol. You get the game and all the other versions are added to your account for you to go download.

Minute Man 7211833d ago

It's similar but not at the same time.

With Cross Buy you get 3 versions, Vita, PS3 and PS4. The difference is each of those games are their own game. With Smart Delivery it's the same game thou scaled to respective console, same save data, only one game

1833d ago
RamRod881833d ago

Again, when has MS said Sony didn't offer something similar or even mention sony in this regard? So many people believe because MS is informing others of smart delivery, they are targeting Sony, which isn't true. Get over it. Sony only gets brought up in conversations because they haven't said anything really about it.

RamRod881833d ago

What is wrong with MS coming up with a marketing term? It makes it easy to remember. Is Cross-buy not a marketing term Sony uses? Get over it.

Hakuoro1832d ago

Minute Man 721

Cross buy games DO have cross save.

Me: Awesome news!

N4G: See I told you PS5 can do everything XSX can do. Im not bothered, just gotta make sure you know how great PS5 is cause they dont use deceptive tactics like being upfront with consumers,

AngelicIceDiamond1833d ago

Except its not smart delivery its just a free update to PS5. If the console had it then something like knack, KZSF or Infamous would work up and down the PS consoles. Has nothing to do with deception just lack of knowledge or a decent IQ.

Hakuoro1832d ago

Smart delivery is a free update.

If you play the PS4 version it's going to download the PS4 version if you have a PS5 it's going to download the PS5 version...

Are you sure you understand what's going on?

AngelicIceDiamond1832d ago (Edited 1832d ago )

@Hakuro Can you take Cyber Punk PS4 version play it over a friend's house and it scales to the PS5 console with your saves from the previous console?

If they say yes then it's smart delivery feature. If no then it's just your free PS5 game update.

Hakuoro1832d ago

If you read the article is says the update will be free when it comes to both consoles. So if you take your PS4 disk to your friends house you'll be able to download the update.

And this page doesn't list anything about taking your disk to a friends house so you may well be over promising.

Cyberpunk 2077's 2.3 Update Opens a Pandora's Box the Game Can't Close

Cyberpunk 2077 is getting a new update after developers previously stated it no longer would, bringing the possibility of more still to come.

hollabox10d ago

I'm hoping the update fixes their poor FSR 3 implementation, and add FSR 4. FSR 2 looks better than FSR 3 in CP2077 by a wide margin. On my 7900XT I just use XESS if I want to add RT at custom 3K resolutions. Already beat the main game, but half way through Phantom Liberty expansion. I would like to get back to it later on this month.

anast10d ago

I have more hours in this game than any other. I would happily put more into it.

I second this and a PS5 PRO patch too please.

RhinoGamer8810d ago

I finished it and had a blast, wish there was a new game + option.

Demon-kun5d ago

I wanna be able to dual wield it would add a decent bit I feel hell if they wanted they could even let us dual wield like knives and swords as well or something just sounds like fun to me

Cyberpunk 2077 on Switch 2: a cutting-edge game translates well to Nintendo's console hybrid

Few games among the Nintendo Switch 2 launch line-up can match Cyberpunk 2077 in putting the system through its paces. It's a staple of our PC benchmarking suite for good reason: the open world design is a solid stressor for any CPU, while its effects-heavy battles challenge GPU resources as well. This Switch 2 release has clearly been a big undertaking for developer CD Projekt Red too, who produced the port in-house with unique optimisations for Switch 2's ARM-based architecture. It's also remarkably the Ultimate Edition of the game, with both the core adventure and the more taxing Phantom Liberty expansion bundled in - an extra portion that proved too demanding to justify a last-gen console release, and was instead restricted to PS5 and Series X/S, and yet here it is running on Switch 2.

To cut to the chase, Switch 2 offers a truly viable way to enjoy Cyberpunk, either in a portable format or docked under a TV. However, CDPR has shot for the stars in its ambition to include Phantom Liberty as well, and it's here that Switch 2 hits some technical limits - with frame-rates struggling as we explore its newer Dog Town region. Still, that aside, there's a lot to admire in the game's engineering for Nintendo's new console overall, and how competitive it is in comparison with other consoles.

I am happy for CDPR. Their hard work paid off because the Switch 2 version are always in the top 5 Switch 2 launch game sales.

jznrpg11d ago

Not much launched with it besides ports so it should be expected I guess.

OMNlPOTENT10d ago

I mean.. what did the PS5 launch with? One exclusive in Demon's Souls?

repsahj10d ago

@Omnipotent
Not just PS5, Series X has zero launch games. XD

DivineHand12511d ago (Edited 11d ago )

This may be one of the weakest launch lineups Nintendo has ever had, with Mario Kart being the only first party game, but Cyberpunk 2077 will definitely give you tremendous value for your money.

One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre. This will allow you to appreciate the story much better. If you find yourself asking which life path is the best to take at the start of the game, in this case it is Corpo, Streetkid, and Nomad. You likely don't know enough about the genre, and certain things will fly right over your head. While it is not mandatory, the game will be 10 times better if you read or listen to some books first.

Some books I have enjoyed in that genre are:
Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot,
Stray Cat Strut by RavensDagger
Tower of Somnus by Cale Plamann
Mist Runner by Nicholas Searcy

If you can only read or listen to 1 book, then I recommend Cyber Dreams by Plum Parrot. It is the closest thing to Cyberpunk 2077.

anast11d ago

Or play the TTRPG which is was based on.

Profchaos11d ago

I'd say its stronger than the switch as Mario kart has a broader appeal than zelda.

It was also a better launch line-up than the gamecube and possibly wii u

DivineHand12511d ago

@Profchaos the WiiU likely had the worst of the bunch which is partly why the system failed.

The gamecube had smash bros melee that launched 2 months after the initial release and that is one of the best games to release on that console. I assume every gamecube owner would be happy with that game.

The switch had Breath of the Wild which is still considered one of the best games of all time. I remember playing through that game and unlocked every equipment, upgraded every equipment to the max, found all the dragons, defeated all the Lynels and completed all the shrines in that game before defeating Ganon at the end. It was a good time from start to finish and made up for the lack of other launch games.

I just think that if they had us waiting that long for the switch 2, they should have more than just 1 or 2 first party games ready within the launch window. If we had at least gotten a trailer for a new 3D mario I would be extremely happy. With the current switch 2 lineup, there is no draw to go out and get it immediately like a new console launch should make you feel. Right now the main appeal is to provide a quality of life update to play switch 1 games.

OMNlPOTENT10d ago

There is also a book directly related to the universe of Cyberpunk 2077, it's called "No Coincidence". I thought it was a pretty good read.

Kornholic10d ago

"One tip I can give people who have never played the game is to first read books from the cyberpunk subgenre."

If somebody gave me this advice before I started my first Cyberpunk 2077 playthrough, I wouldn't have even bought the game in the first place.

DivineHand12510d ago

True because I wouldn't have played it either. It's just that I read those books after playing the game and thinking back, a lot of the motivations of each character started making more sense.

I just wanted to through that tip out there to recommend someone try to understand the cyberpunk genre more before playing. They will get more out of the game.

40 vs 60 fps is not something that I would even consider calling "competitive"

1nsomniac11d ago

Then you don’t know enough about the subject you’re trying to talk about..

badz14911d ago

hahaha...what? are you serious right now? the Switch 2 is not a PC where you can just change the graphical settings to get to 60fps...Unless CDPR released a patch to make it run at 60fps, that is.

As of right now, it's stuck at 40fps at best and that too with DLSS from quite a low base res already. so yeah...it's not competitive.

Profchaos11d ago

100% 40 isn't a arbitrary choice its a strategic choice because it opens up access to supporting technology on the console

Good-Smurf11d ago

DF are Nintendo's occasional bootlickers after that blatant Zelda games ad scandal.
Games like CP2077 are meant to be played on big console or powerful PC on a big screen.
Got to love how they're simp for full price purchase of 5-year-old game and still getting the worst version to play on.

1nsomniac11d ago

Wow you guys don’t let up for a second trying to blame DF for anything you can pick out the sky at any given moment. It’s embarrassing dude.

It’s always DF are bootlickers for Nintendo today, Microsoft yesterday, Sony last week. Make your mind up people… pick a side and stick to it. Sounds so stupid when you’re trying to make a point that some company is biased but that no one can make their mind up who the company is biased towards any given day of the week.

stoney10111d ago

Yep, the amount of hate they get is ridiculous. The funny thing is if you actually look at the comments on their early switch 2 videos people are slating them for not giving it enough praise and constantly comparing it to ps4.

ZycoFox11d ago

They had a "Sponsored by Nintendo" video not long ago, it literally says so at the start.

I trust them for showing frame rate analysis and they're decent for that, but their overall review for Nintendo is overrated, Mario Kart is the same game it has always been.

Really the only one that got close to topping DKR was MKDS.. So it's no wonder it's often ranked as the highest rated Mario Kart.

repsahj10d ago

It's obvious that you're not following DF. In the weeks leading up to the Switch 2's release, didn't you know that DF had so many articles downplaying the Switch 2 because they believed it was far from being more powerful than the PS4?
