Well done Nintendo. Keep up the good work.

Real life proof that success is not tied to having the most powerful console in the galaxy.

Microsoft should learn from Nintendo's success.

to your first point, that was always the case. i mean look at systems like the 2600, NES, PS1, PS2... all of which werent the best of their generation in terms of specs. It was their diverse library of games that made them a success.

As to your second point, Switch success is mainly due to nintendo stepping outside the box for the hybrid nature of the platform. Being able to play console titles on the go was nothing new but the way they did it made more sense to them. Rather than selling two versions of a game (one console, the other portable) they took the hybrid approach and the fans really took to that idea.

Sony had dabbled with a hybrid but didnt really invest in the idea and MS isnt interested in mobility to the extent Nintendo has vested but being able to use your own device and play your library of games on the go is something that seems to be worthwhile for many.

Their success isn't just down to being mobile. Let's also give a shout out to quality exclusives and their improving relationships with 3rd part developers. GAMES

@wood, I could have said that Nintendo and their legacy are also factors but many (even those who grew up on NES and later moved to mature platforms like PS) would still think of Nintendo as kiddie (kid friendly) and they are but they do so because it works for them. They make fun games that transcend generations and people of all ages can sit down and play a few laps of Mario Kart or some Mario Party or Mario Golf/Tennis/Baseball.

Nintendo's games are fun but fixing their relations with 3rd parties was also a much needed change for the better. And having those 3rd party console games playable on the go (or at home) certainly helps as well.

As of March? Wow I can only imagine what it’s done in April and May. They’ve been sold out everywhere till recently. Not to mention that was all before animal crossing.

April and May are probably more disappointing. Stores have been restocked at such a trickle that people are using bots to easily snatch up the minimal stock for that eBay money.

Generally speaking, I don't expect we'll hear a ton about detailed sales again for another few months.

Quarantine helped those sales out a bit lol.
