Self-publishing a new Bayonetta game costs a lot more than The Wonderful 101, Platinum says

Platinum Games' Atsushi Inaba stated that the company would love to self-publish a new Bayonetta game (and maybe some of the older ones), but doing so would be a pricey proposition.

well duh, it's a new title did people expect otherwise? It cost more to buy new than old

Fist4achin1541d ago

I think a new Bayonetta would sell more as a multi console release.

It would be nice to see Bayonetta also return to other platforms where most of the fans of the franchise actually are. Obviously, there's now a big chunk of fans on Nintendo platforms as well but the original was a bigger hit than Bayonetta 2. It's very unlikely though, unfortunately.

If only platinum games was better with money... it would have

100% without a doubt would sell more and make the franchise more popular and would look amazing in 4K. I’m glad they are making bayo 3, but still wish on what could have been done with bayo on next gen hardware.

It would be multiplatform if it sold well enough for Sega to fund the sequels itself

“However, the Bayonetta IP is currently owned jointly by Nintendo and SEGA.”

This isn’t like the Fatal Frame IP that Nintendo owns jointly with Tecmo Koei.

Sega solely owns the Bayonetta IP. Nintendo just owns distribution rights for Bayo 2 & Bayo 3 since they helped fund the sequels

Yes! Ive already put in a pre-order for the ps4 remaster of bayonetta/vanquish.

Shiken1539d ago

Right, which pretty much means we will never see Bayonetta 2 or 3 on other platforms. It is possible that a potential Bayo 4 could be multiplat, but that would still be a loooong way off. Also there is the possibility of Nintendo outright buying the Bayonetta IP if 3 does well.

Basically your best chance would be if Bayo 3 was a smash hit, and Sega decided that they would publish 4 on other consoles instead of leaving it to Nintendo.

Segata1539d ago

Would people buy a Bayo 4 if they never played 2 and 3? Seems less likely.

Shiken1539d ago (Edited 1539d ago )

@Segata

All the more reason that 4 would likely remain Nintendo exclusive if that be the case. Sega might consider not worth the investment, which would have Nintendo step up once again.

Yes but that goes for any new game not just Bayonetta, I honestly don’t think self publishing is the best choice for a company like Platinum since they’re all about fast paced high octane action games. Though I do see self publishing being good for remastering games that haven’t had the treatment already.
