A review score serves a basic purpose, to tell the reader at face value where the reviewer ranks the title in question but the problem with this system is that a review is never that simple. Games are way too complex, and they mean so much to different people that I would argue it’s impossible to give any game an arbitrary number that would not only hold true to how the review felt while playing but also hold true to the quality of the title in question.
Many players find it easier to express themselves while playing games. Yet, over half of the surveyed gamers still play to relieve stress.
I wonder what place made this study, and it's Fandom, no wonder half of the people said that, I find it hilarious that Fandom of all places did manage to pull more than 50% for the argument of playing games for self expression
I actually just play to relax/have fun, get immersed in another world for a while and enjoy the story/characters, who the hell plays to "express themselves"? I can understand how that applies to say Minecraft, where you're actually making things, but I don't think you can apply this to most games.
Saif from eXputer inquires, "Despite the everlasting popularity of the genre, why hasn't there been a good AAA horror game in a while now?"
Even when they do it's first person trying to copy Outlast, Five Nights, P.T etc
I think the Dead Space / RE2 / RE4 Remake and the Evil Within 2 showed you can have a good story based, third person survival horror game.
"In a time when companies don't care about preserving games, I have high respect for the creators of projects like N64: Recompiled." - Hanzala from eXputer.
Some food for thought:
Would you donate your physical copy of a really rare/expensive cartridge (Conkers's BFD, Bomberman 64 Second Attack, Ogre Battle 64, the two Castlevania titles, etc) to those managing this project for the greater good of getting them preserved online for all to experience at some point?
The snippet of ray tracing at the end of the og trailer was low-key amazing. I found out thanks to Nerrel who also made a texture pack for MM, and i can't wait to see how much more great this game will be in the near future. With model swaps, ray tracing, retextures, and a more quicker process than decompilation, it's gonna bring new life to N64 games.
There might need to be a bit of clarification recompilation is not the same as decompilation.
This is basically a container to excite the rom within but allows for all sorts of beat additions and tricks like new lighting effects such as ray tracing to be added.
But decompilation would ultimately be king as it allows for a widespread porting capabilities and uses the assets from games to build a native install for PC or whatever the target system is e.g Mario 64 for PC or sonic mania for psvita / wii
Eurogamers non numeric system is pretty good. Any system with a score out of 10 or more is stupid since the scores below 50% are hardly ever used which makes them redundant.
What this article says should be new standard. Since pretty much all reviews are too subjective. If you only look at the score you still dk anything. Like a lot of people here always say. Idgaf about score i liked/disliked this game and i gonna play or not play it.
The problem these days is that reviewers are reviewing genre of games they don't like.
At least get someone who likes the genre 1st plus I agree scores should not be given out. Some pro and cons, mention stability and performance etc.
Made me so angry when kinda funny games Greg and adrianna pissed all over "days gone" even though they said they "fast travelled" everywhere so I've not watched them since (unsubscribed) as you can't review a game if you've missed half of it.
They said Days gone was a game which could have been a great 20 hr game but not a 40 plus? (I played 80hrs 1st playthrough) 20/30hrs mopping up trophies and challanges so 100hrs of great gaming.
This reminds me of what the libs want to do in schools now. They dont want to give letter grades for fear it will hurt their child's self-esteem.
