We need a decent Game of Thrones video game

The final season of Game of Thrones comes out tonight. It leaves me asking one simple question: Why can't anyone seem to make a decent Game of Thrones game that allows us to play as the characters that we both love and hate?

Unfortunately it won't happen, or it it does, it'll probably be EA or Activision that gets the license.

I doubt respawn would want to do an open world medeival game at that scale. Although they probably could. Do you seriously think if EA got the license, they would give it to respawn? They would give it to the fifa studio just so they could bury the license.

My top pick would be CD Projekt by far!! But I would be surprised if a studio like that ever did a licensed game based off of either TV or movies. I mean The Witcher is based off of a series of novels but they arguably made the books popular vs licensed games usually rely on movies/shows to sell... I.e. they could give the game of thrones license to a shit studio and make more money from overcharging the license to the developper knowing a mediocre game based on GoT would still sell well.

It would more than likely end up being a clone of The Witcher is it was given to CDPR. To be honest Telltale was probably the best at the time for a GoT game. Game of Thrones is very much dialogue driven and action should take a backseat to it in any game based on the series.

Yes! But didn't Bethesda say they turned it down a while back i.e. pre Skyrim?

They did. They actually were in talks for the game of thrones game but they turned it down because they had just started production of Skyrim and needed all hands on deck.

I don't see this. Their games don't really fit the theme well. BioWare, CDPR, or the like make more sense. Dragon Age: Origins is very much in the theme of GoT as far as storytelling.

Hellblade showed they can make a heavy story driven mythology which is what GOT is.

I don't want a Open World GOT RPG.

GoT is more character driven than story driven. Ninja's games have all been from very few characters and don't expand in intricate detail on the other characters, which is the bread and butter of Game of Thrones. They've never written anything like GoT or designed a game around so many characters before. The others I've mentioned have. Open world or not, that's what it would take for a GoT game. Otherwise it's not GoT.

The only dev I trust to make a competent GoT game is CDPR. They can make the game Witcher 3-styled and it would be awesome.

I have no idea what's the deal with these series why is so popular, I watch the first two episodes of the first season and I could barely stand it the average dialog, the cheap ways they want catch your attention, throw a child out of a window, family sex, a women and dragon eggs while Aquaman bangs her ?. bastard this bastard that ?, lol oh well.

The first season is tough to get through. I had season 1 back when it came out and tried 3 times to watch it and couldn't get into it. But about a year ago I forced myself through it and about 6 episodes in I was hooked. It's a fantastic show.

CDPR by far seem the most fitting. Though, I wouldn't totally scoff at Monolith. They could put that nemesis system to great use.

For CDPR to commit to making a GOT game, HBO would have to give them truck loads of moneh, otherwise CDPR wouldn't make it instead of another Witcher game. Witcher is a big franchise now & has very similar universe to aSoIaF and CDPR practically owns it, no percentage pay cuts to IP owners or to Sapkowski from profits.

HBO wouldn't give them money for it. Some publisher would give them money to license it.

I'm not sure HBO owns the rights to license the game though. That may still belong to the author.
