The final year of the 2000s saw releases like Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Uncharted 2, and many more capping off a solid decade. These are the games that made 2009 a year to remember.
GF365: "Oftentimes, video games have characters who are antagonistic and really not very pleasant. Here are some of the friendliest characters in games where you might not otherwise expect to find them."
This weekend from August 10-14, players can play for free Assassin’s Creed II, Brotherhood, Revelations, Black Flag and Valhalla on Xbox, PlayStation and PC (availability dependent on platform).
GF365: "Most games are not perfect and that may be because of a character or an enemy. Here are 10 mediocre bosses in great games."
The Pursuer from Dark Spuls 2 was great, I think the author just sucks at games.
Uncharted 2, man what a game. I started playing one evening, put the pad down only because I had to go to bed, got up, had breakfast and then continued playing until I finished it. Amazing game.
That was a great year for games
I may be in the minority here but I still think Asylum is by far my favourite Arkham game. I liked City... But I loved the atmosphere in Asylum way more and enjoyed traversing the areas, finding every riddler trophy just out of sheer love for the game. With City the area was bigger but didn't feel as well designed, whereas little impressive details were around every corner in Asylum. That said, the Freeze and Clay face fights in City were pretty great.
It's hard to believe it's been a decade. When I look back on games that I enjoyed playing I can remember what was going on in my life at that time and 09 had a lot of good memories!
Uncharted 2 was not only my first Uncharted game but PS3 game as well. I didn't get a PS3 in 06 but in 09after being burned by 3 RRD's I got a PS3 Slim(1st model) and was blown away by Among Theives. The opening scene is probably the best I've ever experienced and the adventure that unfolded was one I still remember fondly!
Arkham Asylum was spectacular and made you feel like you were The Batman. It showed that comic book games could be great when actual effort is put in.
Another game that bucked conventions was X-Men Origins Wolverine and while the movie was garbage, the game was awesome! Wolverine is my favorite comic character and this was THE Wolverine game. I remember being impressed by how when he took damage chucksof his flesh would come off along with hair but it would slowly grow back. I'd love a modern Wolvie game, maybe something like Insomniac's Spider-Man and with Disney acquiring the rest of the Marvel characters maybe we will!
Borderlands was another great experience and I remember seeing it in GameInformer years prior and it looked completely different. Instead of the awesome comic art design it has it looked like just another shooter. Whoever had the idea to switch up the art direction needs a raise!
Infamous was my second PS3 game and again just cemented my faith in what Sony delivers. Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 only added to that faith.
Dragon Age Origins was phenomenal as well and showed what Bioware is capable of. Red Faction Guerrilla is probably the game I spent the most playing that year and I still play it in thd form of thd remaster. Such a great year in gaming!
