God of War Wins in Best Videogame Writing Category at 2019's Writers Guild of America Awards

God of War has won in the 'Best Videogame Writing' category at 2019's Writers Guild of America Awards, beating the likes of Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, Batman: The Enemy Within and Marvel's Spider-Man. Oddly enough, Red Dead Redemption 2 wasn't submitted for consideration.

Not a huge surprise. God of War is a fantastic title that shows a series that has seemingly outstayed its welcome can reinvent itself and truly come back stronger than ever before. It's a fantastic game and well deserving of the accolades it gets.

I was just backtracking for all the collectibles and currently at 91% on my trophy collection and all the special attacks. Boy, I trully understand the fantastic level designs unlike no other.
I am a music student who studies songwriting. The reason why this game resonates and connects with millions of people is that story of this game was inspired by Cory Balrog's true story and with his son.
Honesty in story writing indeed connects with real people.
This really the greatest game of all time including its two sequels.

Totally agree. Forgettable main plot for most of the game. In fact, the epilogue was way more enjoyable for me than the main story.

Lol every mission adds something to the characters and the story. Some of the greatest tv shows like Breaking Bad had the same approach to storytelling -- slowly paced and more focused on the characters and their development.

The story is ultimately about the Van der Linde gang and their eventual downfall. To say that nothing relevant happens until 70% of the story shows that you didn't really understand the point of it.

I agree, with god of war and Horizon zero dawn I was hooked and unable to put them down. Horizon zero dawn I played with the expansions and put in over 50 hours in just over 2 weeks. Yet with red dead I have to force myself to pick the game up again. I have owned it since release and am still only 33% of the way through as it seems like a chore. Not sure if it gets better but I don't know if I will continue with it again.

These awards are a joke, designed to be crowd pleasers and stir up clicks more than anything. Horizon is arguably the best game this whole gen. Just like spiderman got so much heavily positive feedback from critics and gamers but it's not even mentioned in most GOTY debates this year, its pathetic

I was watching one of those videos talking about theories about GOW’s lore and thats when you realize how deep the rabbit hole goes and fully appreciate how Sony Santa Monica has masterfully set things up in advance!

I don't find it odd that RDR2 wasn't in the running. The story was OK, but the writing itself wasn't really all that great.
