Beyond Good and Evil 2 Will Require An Internet Connection

Gamers hoping to play Beyond Good and Evil 2 will need to have an internet connection in order to play the game, Ubisoft said in a Friday Q&A post.

Ugh thanks Ubisoft for changing a single player game into something entirely different From what people wanted

-Foxtrot1990d ago (Edited 1990d ago )

Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd...I'm out

Third Strike

chrisx1990d ago

Same here. Will avoid this like a plague.

-Foxtrot1990d ago

They ruined it...I mean the game could be great but at the end of the day this is NOT Beyond Good and Evil

We just wanted a simple sequel of a great story based platforming game with Jade as the main character continuing her adventure from the open ending of the first game. What do Ubisoft do after 15 years? Oh lets make a gigantic, high stakes open world space game which is prequel to the original game and with a huge focus on online and co-op play, not too mention giving you a blank create your own character protagonist.

First it's a prequel, then a year and a half later after the outcries you see a trailer with Pey'j in it gazing upon an evil looking Jade who looks the same age as she was in the first game. He even looks at her, recognizing who she is when he says "...jade?" So when the hell did that happen? They never mentioned she was evil, brain washed, corrupted in the first game, she was just an orphan who Pey'j took in and they lived in a light house. This is the issue with prequels people don't seem to get, now it seems we are either going to have a now sequel which makes no sense, getting rid of the plot points built up in the first game or a forced in story prequel which won't link to the first game at all.

This game has so many problems. Please Ubisoft just rename it.

GaboonViper1990d ago

Why are they doing this?, BGAE is one of my favourite games, 15 years I've waited.

ApocalypseShadow1990d ago (Edited 1990d ago )

I'm out as well.

When it was first revealed, when they were stuck in the desert with the vehicle broke down, I was in. When there was a leak online of what Jade looked like being chased through the town, then jumping for the helicopter, I was in.

When they finally revealed the game, I was out. And now I'm definitely out. They took Michael Ancel's game and destroyed what we were waiting for. And if he's responsible and this was his original vision, he can shove it where the sun don't shine.

-Foxtrot1990d ago

@Michael Ancel

"They took Michael Ancel's game and destroyed what we were waiting for. And if he's responsible and this was his original vision, he can shove it where the sun don't shine"

I can't believe he would have wanted to go this route but you never know

You want to know what I think. I think this game was NEVER going to get the greenlight as there was nothing about the original idea that was profitable in their minds, so they put it on the back shelf until one day some Ubisoft executive had an idea about an open world space game as you see in these trailers, they thought to themselves "Gee, this is an ambitious project, there's no way in hell we can risk something like this with a new IP...UNLESS" then they flick through old franchises which haven't been around for a long time until they came across up Beyond Good and Evil. "Perfect, this kind of game will do...Michelle please get in touch with Michael Ancel and tell him we'll greenlight Beyond Good and Evil 2 under some conditions"

PhantomS421990d ago

How can you be out if you were never in and have been trolling every single article?

-Foxtrot1990d ago (Edited 1990d ago )

@PhantomS42

Dude just shush and look around. Am I the only one complaining about this? I mean seriously?

If you aren't going to add to the convo then go away

Troll calling others trolls...ironic.

ApocalypseShadow1990d ago (Edited 1990d ago )

Fox,

If they gave him some conditions, which is probable, I would have just said, "forget it." Hold on to his integrity. His principles.

It's like when Kevin Smith had that script with Nicolas Cage as Superman. It was way off base of what movie goers and I would have accepted. I was glad it was thrown in the trash bin and not made into a movie. And I actually think Kevin Smith is a cool guy. Even went to go see him at the Hard Rock with Jason and Katie Morgan was there. It was funny. But that superman script was trash.

BG&E just looks way off. The first game had heart, emotion and felt like a Zelda game. The music was awesome. I had to download that music it was so catchy. But whatever they're making now, won't be purchased by me. And, online required? Oh hell no. I don't buy online only or online required games. I would love to purchase Firewall Zero Hour. But online only and one mode and no single player is a no from me even if I love vr and it looks like it plays great for a shooter.

AnubisG1990d ago

Yep, same here. Was looking forward to it but not anymore.

TheGoodestBoi1990d ago

On the brightside theyve saved me from spending $60

ApocalypseShadow1990d ago

And before I forget, Jon Peters and Tim Burton who also were part of the trash superman scripts.

Now I would just settle for a remaster of the first game like Crash and Spyro got minus the digital crap Activision did for Spyro. I could live with a remaster. Not this prequel.

kreate1989d ago

I won't even buy it for $10 until the DRM is dropped.

beulahland1989d ago

You won't be missed, kid.

bouzebbal1989d ago

Why are publishers willing to kill the franchises like this??

Kingthrash3601989d ago

Smh...gaming...slowly dying.

UncertainCategory1986d ago

Fox... did you play the first game? It is very clearly mentioned at the end of the game that she was actually an entity called ‘Shauni’ but has no memory of this. Pey’j knew this and kept it a secret..

With that in mind, her being some dark evil thing in the prequel actually makes a lot of sense. The first game constantly references things that happened before, even the ending puts Jades entire past into question by revealing that she’s some supernatural being and not a simple orphan.

Considering all that we don’t know, the next game being a prequel fits really well, to give context behind the crazy ending of the first game and hopefully set up a proper conclusion later on.

I won’t argue you on the rest of your points, I’d rather a good single player game than an online one myself, but I think you’re dead wrong about everything you said about the plot, and it’s very clear to me that you haven’t played the original game in a long time.

My hype for Beyond Good and Evil 2 is dying...

SegaGamer1990d ago

Mine was in critical condition as soon as the first teaser for it was released at E3 last year. Now, it's completely dead. I agree with Foxtrot above, this isn't Beyond Good and Evil, they just took the name and shoved this new IP onto it.

The links to the game are so small and everything that is linked to the original feels forced to try and shut up the fans saying that it's nothing like the original Beyond Good and Evil.

If any serious Beyond Good and Evil fan is excited about what they have done, then they were never a proper fan in the first place. I just can't imagine why any fan of the original would be happy with this.

Derekvinyard131990d ago

Wait wtf why??? Isn’t this a single player game did I miss something? Is there multiplayer?

Nitrowolf21990d ago

Yeah I think it’s no focused, large space to explore, planets and ect. Iirc cities are all detailed but outside of that things are generated

Exvalos1990d ago (Edited 1990d ago )

Bottom line man the success of fortnite is screwing everything up devs now think all we want is multiplayer games with shallow to no story

neutralgamer19921990d ago

I hope ubi suffers some serious financial problems just so they open their eyes and ears and listen to our feedback

I am do sick and tired of the fact EA gets all the blame yet ubi are way worst. They are selling MT in single player portion of their games

Take two ceo said we aren't charging enough for content

Activision are putting financial people to run the development side of their business

Ea is Ea

Ubi are greedier than most

This is a 4 horse race yet only one horse is being looked at

william_cade1990d ago

UBI, EA, Bethesda,Activision, Capcom ....the list is almost endless

NarooN1990d ago

I was expecting a single player journey like the first one. What the hell is this always-online auto-generated world bs? They just made the game in a way nobody asked for. It's probably gonna bomb and Ubi deserves it.

sampsonon1989d ago

yes, don't try anything new. keep making the same games over and over again so people can complain that your games are always the same and that you never try anything new.

Nitrowolf2 speaks for everyone and you should have known this Ubisoft.... the nerve.

Bitchhh and complain should be the mantra for this gen.

i give the benefit of the doubt until i try something. if i don't like it i turn and go on with my life.
imagine a musician being told what to create? oh! wait! that's exactly what the last two generations of musicians have had done to them.

oh well, copy and paste i guess.
excuse me, going to listen to The Ramones

The_Sage1989d ago

Oh the irony...

A bitch fit that includes bitching about people bitching.

sampsonon1989d ago

@The_Sage: maybe you bitch so much that when you read someone's comment about people complaining about everything, you hear it in a bitchy tone.

so stop being a bitchhh all the time and fix your problem.

remixx1161987d ago

You sound straight crazy bro, there is a difference between locking someone into a cycle to force profit and unnecessarily drastically changing something to make a profit at the expense of the fans it was originally meant for.

Look at hip hop from the 90s compared to the straight shit we here played on the radio now.

Yui_Suzumiya1989d ago

Nail in the coffin is more like it. I didn't wait nearly 10 years for this crap.

robtion1990d ago

Yep I loved the original. It is the only ps2 game I still own. This sounds bad though. Boo Ubisoft.

UCForce1990d ago

Are you seriously, Ubisoft ? Ugh, this is why I hate Gaas. Publishers just love heavily modernization on consumer.

Brave_Losers_Unite1990d ago

Yup companies will get lazier with this s**t

deadfrag1990d ago

Thats why we should not support this kind of moves by developers and there publishers.Talk with your Wallet and dont buy it or pré order.

NotanotherReboot1990d ago

Ok thanks for the explanation but can you pleas not downvote my comments when I've don nothing wrong it upsets me

Rachel_Alucard1990d ago

I didn't downvote but on the internet when you tell people not to do something you are just pushing them to do it, since you are reacting to it.

UCForce1990d ago

That’s because people won’t take you seriously.

Atomicjuicer1990d ago

GAAS means you don’t own the game any more. You can’t sell it or trade it and eventually it will be taken offline and cease to exist.

It puts all the power into the hands of the publishers and takes all consumer rights away.

It also destroys retro gaming.

Cobra9511989d ago

Assuming you're serious, if getting downvoted upsets you, internet forums are not for you. You could say that the grass is green, and someone will find a reason to disagree with you, or downvote you just because they can.

Godmars2901989d ago

Sadly, people round here are just reactionary like that.

I'd like something more lighthearted up next. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed The Last of Us, but I sure do miss the Naughty Dog games that didn't leave me feeling like someone just kicked my dog into traffic.

Hope one of them is a FPV game. They can try more immersion with FPV.

I just cannot believe we haven't had a game from them this generation nearly 4 years in.. crazy!

Knightofelemia6h ago

If the game is crap then yes there will always be negative feedback it comes with the territory. It's called word of mouth or welcome to the internet. Where the truth about a game comes out really fast whether the game is good or crap. If you can't handle the criticism because of a game then why publish the game. Why should people who never criticized or even played the game be punished? Vietnam has some really screwed up laws block Steam because they don't answer us rule. And going on a witch hunt with Steam please. Where's the proof, where's the evidence of this witch hunt. Somebody is butt hurt and has a Vietnamese Karen leading the witch hunt.

Take-Two CEO Doesn’t Think AI Will Reduce Employment or Dev Costs; “Stupidest Thing” He’s Heard

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick doesn't think AI will reduce employment or lower development costs, and calls it "stupidest thing" he's ever heard.

lodossrage1d 20h ago (Edited 1d 20h ago )

They already have AI trained to do coding.......

How he thinks it's stupid is beyond me, Especially since we see it happening in real time.

CS71d 17h ago

Company A has 300 employees and lays of 200 to replace them with AI to release the same quality game.

Company B has 300 employees and keeps all 300 but instead uses AI to release a game with dramatically larger scale, scope, complexity, short dev cycle etc.

Company B would release a dramatically better product by using humans + AI and consumers would buy the better game.

I actually agree with this concept.

Huey_My_D_Long1d 17h ago (Edited 1d 17h ago )

This is key facet. Its how the AI is used. It's actually is impressive as is and really would make an amazing addition to alot of people in their jobs, not just tech. It also has the potential for businesses to use to lay off large amounts of people, as much as they could to save money on labor. I hope too many companies don't go with the latter. But since usually companies are worried about bottom line over people...we will see some try and hopefully fail. But yeah, if its to help workers like in your company B scenario I'm totally down...Just scared Company A may be too enticing to some ceos and businesses.

Darkegg1d 17h ago

Value of AI and value of humans will both be increased with human-AI complex. Each, by themselves, will not be independently better than the other. Whether AI will ever be independent from humans is the fear question of humans, ironically because of our doing. At this stage, most of the doing is because of humans, not because of AI. AI is doing exactly that by our design, until we have failed ourselves with an AI development that went awry. The biggest take is that humans have only ourselves to blame when things become wrong, and we have to decide what is the ultimate goal with AI we want to accomplish. It would take a person with high morals and high ethics to make right of AI. I would not want businessman to decide what AI should do or what capabilities it can have. AI should be in the hands of people with high moral fiber, or those operating on love, kindness, and compassion.

BlackOni1d 16h ago

AI is SUPPOSED to be used as a tool, not a replacement. It's designed to do two important things artists can take advantage of immediately.

- Make the ideation/reference imaging process much quicker and easier (basically using it as a google search)
- Make mundane and time consuming tasks faster and easier so more time is spent on creation.

Unfortunately, what many have done is used it as a way to replace rather than supplement.

Einhander19721d 13h ago (Edited 1d 13h ago )

CS7

In the ideal world yes.

In the real world where companies have shown little desire to innovate and spent every effort to maximize profits the end result will be the same quality games (if were lucky) made by less people and more AI.

Company Real World: Fires 200 people and makes the same game cheaper using AI and the executives get record bonuses.

Edit:

Lets look at history, specifically auto manufacturing.

In the 70's and 80's the auto unions tried to oppose automation of jobs (robots) stating that they would take peoples jobs. And the people in charge who wanted to make more money said the exact same types of things that are being said about AI. But we can look at history and see that countless types of jobs were in fact replaced by automation, that was of course even compounded upon by computers.

The net effect was that the rich got richer less jobs were needed so wages were forced down by competition for the jobs that were left.

hombreacabado19h ago

that concept works in the initial beginning phase of AI but once AI learns and surpasses the knowledge and coding expertise of even the best human employee than this CEO will no longer need competent humans in that line of work.

Extermin8or3_17h ago

@Hue_My£D_Long

Yes but that is a choice then by massively increased productivity and this greater income and wealth and stagnating with similar levels of productivity and output and not creating much wealth. Usually the option that creates wealth prevails because a rising tide raises all ships.

WARNING WARNING ‼️ SARCASM AHEAD
Sure Strauss and robots didn’t take jobs from car factories.
Edit:Sad thing is he believes it and unfortunately he won’t be replaced for a long time by AI

senorfartcushion1d 16h ago (Edited 1d 16h ago )

He doesn't, he's just lying. These people lay people off so they can get bonuses. If AI takes jobs, their bonus goes bigger and the workforce goes smaller.

porkChop1d 14h ago

Because he sees AI as a tool to aid development. He wants to use AI to help make bigger and better games in the same timeframe. Other CEOs want to replace devs with AI to cut costs and make lifeless games faster for a quick buck. Strauss has the right idea, this is how AI should be used. To extend and expand the capabilities of devs.

neutralgamer199218h ago

There will be few companies who will go overboard and try to replace their employees with AI tech. The ones that will make the most money will be the ones that utilize ai, along with their employee talent, to make the best product possible

AI could handle some of the most time consuming processes. To expediate the development, so in return, costing the publisher's last money end time.

Extermin8or3_17h ago

Not reliably they haven't. Coding done by ai is generally abysmal for all but the most generic tasks.
