Fallout 76 Update Version 1.01 Downloads 50+ GB Full Game Data, Retail Disc Only Has 200 MB

Fallout 76 is available right now on both retail and digital platforms, however, the physical version is next to useless if you plan to use it to install the game quickly.

Physical is an outdated, inferior method of distribution. Expect more of this in the future. The next step will be retail packaging just a box with a download code in it before we just finally go into the all digital future.

I believe it was like this with black ops 4 recently. the physical disc only had a fraction of the full content and people had to practically dl the whole game anyway just like those who buy digital.

Spyro is also doing it with the physical not being the same build as the digital and only having 1 game on the disc.

Funny how both of those are from Activision....

Not sure you understand the meaning of outdated. Obsolete would be a better word to use, but considering physical is still the primary way games are sold on consoles, I'd say that's not the case.

Being inferior is subjective, and they'll both have their pros and cons. To me, the pros for physical far outweigh the pros of digital, because all digital really offers me is the ability to not have to switch discs.

I do expect more.of this kind of stupid crap in the future. I also expect me to not support those.games, even if I want them...like I'm doing with the recent spyro reboot.

Considering most of the world do not have access to the sort of internet required to go 'digital only' this is an absurd comment. A 50gb day 1 download would take me and many others 2 days of continuous downloading.

Not to mention physical is still 50% cheaper in countries like Australia (where, as above our internet is woeful) so going digital won't be happening anytime soon.

They know that if this game was sold as a digital only game that it wouldn't get near the sales as if they falsely sold it with a physical option so they pulled this shit. Falsely sell a physical edition, while in reality it is still a digital exclusive game.

I think these kinds of physical copies which amount to nothing more than an installer need to be banned by the console makers. Either that, or a big ads disclaimer somewhere on the box which says what it is.

Won't happen without some sort of intervention, but as a collector, I wouldn't want to inadvertently support this practice with day one purchases.

Boycott every publisher that does this. This is wrong on every level. If this works for sales, more and more will do it, artificially killing disc games. Things like online passes died because they realized it didn't work, make sure this doesn't work too.

-Fallout 76 bug that deletes the game during the beta
-Spyro, Fallout pretty much having no data on disk and forcing large downloads
-Square Enix canceling all FFXV DLC, then promising subscriptions going forward and doubling down on DLC (lol) PC version canceled, director leaving, posting $33 million in losses
-Do you not have phones?
-Bethesda confirming still using their almost 20 year old engine for ES6

And on the flip side people are actually happy with Microsoft at the moment XD

A few years after the next-gen consoles are out physical games will take a big hit as we will most likely see more games with 4K texture assets. Games will become so big that they wont fit on one disc. And the patches will just continue to increase.

By buying physical games your basically buying a plastic cover,disc and game cover paper. Kinda pointless when you think about it...

So what if you do not have an internet connection? I truly do not look forward to an all digital gaming scenario, WE WILL REGRET not fighting for this not to be the case. We should do our very best not to remove choice, we do not want Netflix style of gaming because I do not want to pay a monthly fee to play games. I want to pop my game in and play whenever I want.

I doubt you'd be buying a mp game if youndont have a internet connection.

However, for sp games, like the recent spyro game, it means you couldn't play it, or you couldn't get all the content.

It used to be that outside sp games, a game had to be playable without a patch. Mp games were allowed to enforce patches for security and keeping things equitable among the user base, but games with both modes required offline content be playable. Bugs could exist, and content could be added, but nothing to the extremes that Activision is pulling with spyro.
