The first thing I did when the game started was, yup, flying, crawling, and swinging through the city. Screw the crime activities lol.

hulk_bash19872068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

I'm in my first hour and my God the game is just plain fun to play. I cant wait to delve deeper into Insomniac's loving crafted take on the Spider-Man universe.

Glak182068d ago

All I saw was perfect score...someone yelled cool during the first 5 mins and said give it a 10. It's a great game, but come on now.

Next up: Days Gone 10/10
Followed by: Untitled Game 10/10

MasterCornholio2068d ago

Relax it’s just an opinion. Other sites gave it a 10 or a 9.5 so it’s not to far away from what others are giving it.

It’s not like the game has a metacritic of 50 and then some random site gives it a perfect score.

Tross2068d ago

Indeed. Besides, for me a 10/10 or a 100/100 isn't necessarily a game that's void of any flaws whatsoever. However, it's a game that resonates with me on a whole other level than most games, and any flaws do not detract from that in any way, shape or form. I haven't played the new Spider-Man yet, but it looks like it's everything I expected it to be and then some, keeping in mind that the Batman Arkham games and even Spider-Man 2 on PS2 from many years ago made my perfect 10s list. I haven't played the latter in a very long time mind you, but I look forward to finally being able to play this latest title.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Watched the game on YouTube just now.
Swinging was good, but the fighting mechanic is repetitive.
plenty of dialogue......... I say throughout the game 40% actual fighting.

Now this is My personal observation

PowerOfTheCloud2068d ago

WATCHING a GAME on youtube = observation auto disqualified. Watching it doesn't give you a feeling for the gameplay. Would be bored to death watching any game on youtube except from fail montages lol

CarlDechance2068d ago

The fighting mechanic is not repetitive. You unlock more and more mechanics for fighting. YouTube isn't playing the game so you really don't know what you are talking about.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

You don't know what you talking about . I base my purchase on game play and reviews. as I said before fighting mechanic is Repetitive no other style of fight mechanic. yes, you unlock tools to use but not fighting skills.
example " need for speed payback" game play mechanic was crap seeing it at e3 after buying it and played it myself confirm my " Observation" crap. other games I'm able to look at before purchasing end up being crapfest by reviews, personal play. guest you use kinda-like Spidy-sense to know what is good/bad " Before" wasting money.
From my personal review and observation Spiderman game is great love the swinging , building texture. But the backward flip, front flip, under the leg slide become boring repetitive action.

CarlDechance2068d ago

"yes, you unlock tools to use but not fighting skills. "

lol.....bullshit. You unlock abilities to disarm enemies, throw weapons you've yanked back at the enemy, throw enemies around, attacking an entire area with slam, attacks after dodges, and then there are the stealth attacks. Stuff you were know if you were actually playing the game and not watching some bullshit video. Your observations are indeed "crap". I don't care about your methods for determining whether to buy a game. Just don't act like you are an authority of the game without playing it.

Sm00thNinja2068d ago

This new generation is so lazy they don't even play games before reviewing them. Watching them on YouTube is enough to have an opinion these days.

Retroman2068d ago

Ninja
it is much "Cheaper" to review said game before buying than spending 60.00 to be DISAPPOINTED returning it back to retailer. you guys don't understand this "My" personal opinion how I game.

jznrpg2068d ago

@Retro don’t buy any games that will save you a ton of money

Sm00thNinja2068d ago

@Retroman I understand that aspect of gaming but don't expect people to understand or acknowledge your opinion over someone whose put actual time into the game . Youre arguing with people like you've put 40 hrs into it when you're just watching YouTube videos Filip Muicin Jr. 😂

mkis0072068d ago

I thought the same based off preview gameplay. I was a bit worried combat was an afterthought. I was very wrong to be worried. It is difficult to describe the feeling of chaining together moves, dodges, swings, webs, and gadgets. The "weight" of the combat is there. It isn't an easy buttonmash thing...the most fun is when you concentrate on a perfect encounter with perfect dodges and fluid combat.

All I can say is for me watching didn't do the combat justice.

Kos-Mos2068d ago

Retroman, you simply cannot talk negatively on a PS4 game on N4G unless you enjoy a bad discussion instead of a good one.
Of course the game is mediocre, but people here is so religious about Sony, they will never listen.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

@ Kos-Mos

I'm a Sony fan myself since ps1
but you got to be practical, I can't be blind about gameplay and notice nothing repetitive. other than that Spiderman game is Fantastic. only game's I expect to be repetitive is sidescrolling, platform games.
P.s.
What is the "Purpose" giving opinion if you "can't" be truthful and honest? I don't mine getting disagrees . that let me know I'm not blinded by the system as they are. of course they'll NEVER listen and so religious to Sony.
when I see a good game I look for reviews and gameplay to determine if it good. if it excite me i buy it. if it Shitty I know by gameplay on YouTube . thought everyone use gameplay to determine yay or nay in purchasing games.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

@ Kos-Mos
I can't relie on developer's at E3 saying their product is Fantastic buy it.
best thing to do is test it out yourself and watch reviews. these guys don't realize games are programmed "Product" if the product is not satisfactory to you you don't need it. right is right

CarlDechance2068d ago

@Kos-Mos

What the hell is wrong with you people? Why should we be listening to people who have not played the game whatsoever? Oh wait.....you are that guy that used some dumb ass youtube video for criticizing God of War. lol....well, of course you and Retroman are going to get along just fine. Hilarious that both of you equate watching youtube with playing and experiencing a game.

Nyxus2068d ago

"Of course the game is mediocre"

Is that why it's a 87 on MetaCritic?

Sm00thNinja2068d ago

Why are y'all letting KosMos bait y'all.

Greg28012068d ago

What are you talking about? You watched some gameplay on youtube and you now everything about the game.

Fighting is not repetitive at all. You unlock new moves, new suit powers. There adding new type of enemies so you need to change the way you are fighting.

I play spiderman on Hard and i can tell you from PERSONAL experience, that the combat is very good and not repetitive.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Greg,
Open your blind eyes man.
you said you able to "unlock" new suits, new powers, new gadgets, new whatever else. But the fighting skills stay the same.
at some point Spiderman swings fast as the helicopter he's following how is that possible??

Kos-Mos2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Well, I am a owner of all PS systems except the handhelds and many of the greatest games of all time IN MY OPINION are on these systems. Xenogears, Demon's Soul's, Final Fanatsy 7, Metal Gear Solid 2, Tekken 3.
But this confuses fanboys. How can a person talk good and negatively on exclusives from both Sony and NIntendo?
Xbox I have never cared about, MS gets my attention from my most played game ever: Starcraft 2 on PC.

Just keep posting opinions, it is great to read something that is not: "BEST GAME EVER!!!" But do not expect people to give constructive replies on N4G.

CarlDechance2068d ago

As if your replies are constructive? What the hell does your list of greatest games has to do with anything? If it confuses anyone it is because your posts are irrelevant nonsense.

If you want to talk about Spider-man then I suggest you play the damn game first and then you will actually have something "constructive" to say.

Kos-Mos2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

@CarlDechance

Who said I haven't played it?
I listed these games becuase someone like you might think that I try to downtalk Sony.
And tone down your language in both of your posts, you are just proving my point quite clearly when you write like that. If you want a constructive discussion I will give you another chance, but just one chance.

CarlDechance2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

lol....you haven't made a point. You have nothing to say worth a damn so you can stuff that "chance" back into that overly inflated ego of yours. You are backing up a guy who admits right off the bat that he hasn't played the game and pretends he is an authority and somehow you've got the nerve to yap about others giving him crap for it? Yeah....the fact that both of you think youtube makes you authorities on anything shows the limitations of your ability for a constructive conversation. And whenever a guy starts yapping his gaming resume to *prove* he isn't trying to "downtalk Sony" then that is exactly what he is trying to do. You are about as transparent as they come, pal. Your stealth trolling is old news.

Kos-Mos2068d ago

@CarlDechance

I'm impressed on your use of heavy words and how you express yourself.

Well, the same about authoroties could be said about any random person playing a game stating it is an incredible experience, and when objective reviews on Youtube states otherwise, who to believe?
Just a tip to you, most people do not believe a person that swears and have his guard up to the fullest.
It was an opinion by OP which you tried to attack with immature expressions. At the same time your immaturity is still trying to attack me and my opinions.
One more try?

CarlDechance2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Yeah, I have a bad habit of attacking uninformed opinions. That is all you and retro have. Your game experience is entirely vicarious. And you want to talk about what people do or do not believe? Check that mirror, pal. lol.....you are out of chances to stop making a fool out of yourself. See ya.

Kos-Mos2068d ago

Oh Dear @CarlDechance

There are other and less stressful ways of having a dsicussion with random people in a gaming forum.
I am very sorry that you are upset and hurt by comments about a Spider-man game that were not positive.

Sm00thNinja2068d ago

Game is damn near flawless. I still haven't even faced more than 2 bosses i just get lost in simply swinging around the city.

CarlDechance2068d ago

The game is simply amazing to play.

Retroman2068d ago (Edited 2068d ago )

Carl,
Where in my post I said I'm a YouTube Authority on gameplay? for your feeble mind and others like you I'll put it like this.....
."Before I purchase any game" I stop by (YouTube) check out the gameplay. if the gameplay mechanic look good and interesting I buy....... now if you guys can't comprehend that shame on you.
Gamer's like you enjoy attacking other gamer's that don't think like you. ever thought the world don't revolves around N4G .
how do people get in soooooooo much heat over programmed product on a physical disc. beat the heck out of me.

CarlDechance2068d ago

Well then watch your video and make a decision about whether or not you are going to buy, but skip the part where you come here and talk about how simple the fighting mechanic is because, once again, you don't know what you are talking about until you PLAY THE GAME. It is a simple concept that you and kos-mos simply do not have the ability to grasp which is really strange.

Germaximus2068d ago

ew Button mashing?

I'm still waiting on my copy but to see the button mashing is still continuing is very disappointing. Can't wait to play!

SavageFlamingo2068d ago

If you button mash, you will die. Several times.

Germaximus2067d ago

I'm not talking about the combat. I'm talking about the very first thing you see in the video.

The Death Of Arkham Has Me Worried About Spider-Man

Saad from eXputer: "After the rise of Rocksteady and its fall with post-Suicide Squad, I'm worried about Marvel's Spider-Man suffering a similar fate."

Hofstaderman32d ago

Why? According to the well publicized Insomniac leaks they have a slew of plans for Spiderman including its sequel.

CrimsonWing6932d ago

The sequel has had rumors that it could be sold piecemeal style or might be GaaS.

https://youtu.be/XCFr3KRB9G...

This is all coming from the leaks you mentioned. The problem is the industry is not doing well no matter how ill-informed people spin it on here when they see “sold 3 mill.” In those Sony leaks it showed the struggle to get ROI and they spend an insane amount of money to develop, which makes 0 sense to me when there’s not much to show for the increased development costs. Case in point would be Suicide Squad vs Arkham Knight.

I believe we’re in the middle of seeing a drastic change in media and distribution. This goes for movies, but more so for games and the industry is scrambling to figure out how to get more money out of consumers rather than stick to the “buy it once” to play it all.

https://www.gamesindustry.b...

https://www.theverge.com/20...

These are things you need to pay attention to in order to know which direction the wind’s blowing with this sh*t storm. I was almost certain the GaaS initiative was killed when Jim was leaving, but now seeing the success of Helldivers 2… I’m thinking we’re in for a bumpy ride. I just don’t know what that looks like yet, but I don’t think it’s gonna be pretty.

anast32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Insomniac still has a good generation left in them before they get cannibalized by investors. It'll probably happen around the mid PS6 gen, when we see the beginning of the fall.

dmonee32d ago

Huh with this article? If Sony and Insomniac want to abandoned the Spider-Man franchise and make a half baked, live service Spider-Man game, and miss the mark with their fans, then God bless’em!!!!

32d ago
JimmyDM9031d ago

Seems unlikely when they abandoned the GaaS spiderverse game but are still going ahead with single player games like Wolverine and Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Ultimate Spider-Man use to be my favorite until Insomniac games took over.

Inverno166d ago

I'd still choose Ultimate above all other games, followed by Shattered Dimensions

Abnor_Mal166d ago (Edited 166d ago )

My favorite and still champion Spiderman PS2, followed by Marvels Spiderman2, then Miles Morales, followed by Marvels Spiderman, and finally Ultimate Spiderman.

I need to drag out my PS3 and try Web of Shadows, owned the game for years and years and never played.

Shout out to cultured vultures for NOT making this 40 separate pages.

Relientk77166d ago

Spider-Man (2000), Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, and Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions were all so good! I have fond memories playing them.
