Young Adults Prefer to Watch eSports More than Conventional Sports

It’s no secret to anyone that eSports are becoming part of the mainstream culture. In 2016 alone it was a fact that eSports were taking audience numbers from other conventional sports. Now, a new study has presented the fact that men and women alike love to watch eSports events more than any other program dedicated to conventional Sports

As an adult I find esports to be boring. The announcers make situations more hyped up in the games than they really are. It's like they are trying too hard.

I'm a news photographer and on Friday nights I have to shoot high school football games. I'm always amazed by how staggeringly boring it is.

Eh, if people can sit and watch people running a ball around for three hours I'm not surprised other people get something out of watching other people play video games they can just play themselves. I think it's stupid, and I hate how every other multiplayer game tries so hard to draw in the esports crowd, but whatever. If this hastens the death of ESPN I'm all for it.

The study was done on online video viewing. It was a survey of about 4000 asking the primary use of online video viewing. E-sports was watched more traditionally online than regular sports among younger adults and it came in second to regular movies. The title and article are a bit misleading.

I can see ESports catching on a bit due to the attainable nature of it's feats. We know, for the most part, we can't be the next LeBron (if you ain't a 6'7 240 lbs. highschool phenom...you won't be!) or Messi. But, we could be the next StinkyPants363. Many physical sports have physical requirements. NBA players are TALL. (yes, there are outliers). Amercian Football players are BIG and athletic. Many won't ever fill that bill. However, to be good at an ESport appears to require the simple access to a game and practice. Now, that's not to say we will or could ever be StinkyPants (don't know why I chose that name). But, it's easier to get good at a videogame than it is to change your entire genetic expression and become a physical freak of nature and who has magically become imbued with talent.
