Just another franchise in a line of franchises killed by ea. Pathetic

Shin-Zantetsuken2440d ago

The game was just the victim of noob devs, poor decision, and indecisiveness. The Kotaku report on ME: Andromeda's troubled development mentions several issues that resulted in the final game being less than stellar including office politics, staff moved to other studios mid-development, inexperienced developers, Frostbite inadequacies and indecisiveness regarding the scope of the game.

Frostbite was cause of a lot of headaches because it was created for shooters and not for RPGs. The engine lacked party management system, map sizes were small, animations were limited, etc. etc. The Dragon Age team ran into same troubles but managed to get over them due to hard work and experience. The new team working on Andromeda was unable to do that.

I bet very few people know that ME: Andromeda started as a procedurally generated game. That is right guys, it was supposed to have a procedurally generated galaxy and the devs spent 3 years on it. In the end, they realized they couldnt do it so they built the current game in the remaning 18 months. That is why ME: Andromeda turned to be such a disaster.

glenn19792440d ago

Yea i heard about the procedurally gen. But you have a good point of the game engine i think allot people over look that area of game engine, other topic kinda wish for titanfall was build on that engine i think it would be awesome

This is a really horrible way to end the series though, it really deserved to go out with a bang rather than stumble towards the finish line and shortly kill over after reaching it.

frostypants2439d ago (Edited 2439d ago )

I don't see how the party management system would really have anything to do with the engine, but otherwise I agree.

Shin-Zantetsuken2439d ago

@frostypants

Party management is also built into the engine. Frostbite was a engine for shooters so it did not have the functionality of party management or even inventory management for RPGs. Here is a quote from the Kotaku article.

"When BioWare first got its hands on Frostbite, the engine wasn’t capable of performing the basic functions you’d expect from a role-playing game, like managing party members or keeping track of a player’s inventory. BioWare’s coders had to build almost everything from scratch."

While I never agree with you, in this instance I still don't. While the game released in that state was unacceptable this is not the first game in a franchise to suck and have come back strong. Mass Effect is not dead.

Bnet3432440d ago

Pretty sad I actually got this on launch night. I had high hopes but man the game looked awful. The graphics should have been like Horizon Zero Dawn conversation, instead it looked like a 360/PS3 game...

3-4-52439d ago

Yea not really EA's fault on this one...I'd blame the dev studio.

Just start a new Sci-fi IP.

Born2Game832439d ago

No Bioware Montreal killed it with the their bad decision making. Read the story of its troubled development before spouting blind hate speech.

What nonsense are you talking about? ME Andromeda is dead for sure. I mean RIP bro. But ME is not even close to dead. This is as click bate as it comes.

GameRant2440d ago

"bait" and you're wrong. Followup plans cancelled and Montreal studio on different projects.

Lon3wolf2440d ago

Don't know about never, Casey Hudson who has just gone back to BioWare says he would love to work on it in the future:

Yes! I love #MassEffect too much to not want to work on it again in the future. Thanks for the support - it means everything to our team."

Krysis2440d ago

Your wrong, don't get defensive cause you have an emotional investment in this obvious click bait article. Just because they have shelved the IP doesn't mean it's dead and there is not a shred of evidence beyond speculation confirming this. The Mass Effect IP is worth many millions and anyone that truly believes there won't be another...well it's asinine.

_-EDMIX-_2440d ago

They will cancel those plans if the team is still making mistakes.

It sounds like they are simply going to get the original team to make it.

Allsystemgamer2440d ago

All plans have been cancelled for the immediate future. Sounds pretty dead to me.

OB1Biker2440d ago

I agree and this click bait is even way late to the hate party

GamesMaster19822440d ago

The people that worked on the game killed it in my opinion not EA.

morganfell2440d ago

Partially so. But in game development such as this there are constant reveals, status updates, and briefings to the publisher. Quite often they have a person from EA or other such large publisher as may apply riding shotgun with the developers keeping an eye on the project. That person then reports back, in this case, to EA. It isn't a "Here's your money" fire and forget come back when the game is done situation. EA allowed, with knowledge, for the sore that was ME:A to fester.

Born2Game832439d ago

Totally agree. But blind haters will just blame EA.

InTheZoneAC2440d ago

As much as I like inquisition I'm not sure I want to support Bioware anymore for what they did with mass effect

Sirk7x2440d ago

The Bioware you knew is no more.

Duke192440d ago

"The franchise is dead" - yet people are pretty pissed that DLC isn't coming out for Andromeda. The interest is still there, and im sure that the next iteration will sell.

FITSniper2440d ago

It's still sitting on the shelf for me, unplayed. And unsure whether I want to.

Sega Saturn made it but not the 360. Don't remember Saturn having a horrid rrod rate. Absolutely horrid

The launch games were all right, but look at how Virtua Fighter and Daytona USA compared to their re-releases.

Mass Effect Companions, Ranked from Worst to Best

From Xfire: "BioWare's Mass Effect franchise took gamers on a fascinating universal sci-fi journey that will never be forgotten. While fighting against the ever-looming threat of the Reapers was central to Mass Effect's storyline, what made the series so iconic was its vast and diverse cast of characters.

Not only do these companions accompany Commander Shepard as you make your way through hell and back, but, throughout your journey, you also get to learn who these characters were and are and what they think about what it is that you are doing. Some will even fall in love with you, and others will even become your enemy based on your decision."

sourOG1079d ago

When I looked at the list I thought they were saying Garrus was the worst lol. And tali being so far down the list was fighting words for me. But the numbered list is just the order they are shown so you are forgiven.

CYALTR1078d ago

I think they listed them from worst to best. Also keep in mind that this includes Andromeda characters that aren't part of the remastered trilogy. Interesting refresh on the characters though.

sourOG1078d ago

They did but I didn’t realize it until I started reading. That’s just the order they are shown.

Knightofelemia1079d ago (Edited 1079d ago )

I couldn't stand Miranda I could never like her as a character and I always skipped Jacob and James. I always liked Grunt, Jack, Legion, Tali, Garrus, Samara, Liara, Wrex, Edi, Zaeed, Kasumi I always use these characters. Using Martin Sheen as the Illusive Man just fits the character like using Keith David as Admiral Anderson was another good choice always feels like Goliath from Gargoyles is yelling at you which I like.

Rebel_Scum1077d ago

Kinda weird having a question mark at the end of that sentence?

Soy1077d ago

Garrus is best space bro.

Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021

Zahi AR. from Link Cable Gaming writes “Welcome back Link Cable Gaming fans, with me in andromeda. Specifically, Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021. With the recent announcement of Anthem shutting down its future plans, I wanted to look at another recent BioWare game. My switch to a PlayStation 5 destroyed my save file right while I was at the end. So, I decided to do a fresh start on the new console to see just how well (or not) it’s been since launch. How has the new generation of hardware treated the game that fell from grace? Should you play Mass Effect: Andromeda in 2021? Let’s find out.”

Such a good game! It got a 4K X1X upgrade and it looks fantastic! Also like the story! Was playing it again before Series X dropped. Going to download it for the Series X, as soon as I have more room on my HD. Playing too many other games right now.

Instant resume is AMAZING! I can Switch between 5 games in seconds. Like 10 to 15 at the most! No closing a game and opening another one! Thank you Microsoft!

giovonni1144d ago

It’s was decent to me. I didn’t feel the magic I felt when I played two or even three. I don’t know. It was repetitive, and the worlds felt bland.

jeromeface1143d ago

There's a reason it reviewed so poorly in the first place... these reasons among others.

anast1144d ago

I had a lot of fun with this game, but I haven't played 2 or 3 yet.

giovonni1143d ago

2 was wonderful, three was just as good as two the ending though 🤦🏾‍♂️

Wintersun6161143d ago

I finally gave it a go last autumn and was amazed by how bad a game can be. And believe me my expectations were low. After 10ish hours I just had to give up.

giovonni1143d ago

I powered through it, myself. It was just repetitive, and the Land Rover Exploration wasn’t interesting at all. The story also we mahhhhhhh.
