Yes.

No, snow is mildly temperate.

darthv722597d ago

It really is quite interesting seeing players (below) bicker over what is or is not the better game. Why not all just accept that you can agree to disagree. Some like HZD, others the Witcher 3 and even those who like GTA. There is no right or wrong answer because it is all personal opinion.

Why o why2597d ago

Yep. . Some people prefer lamb chops, others steak. . . There is no wrong preference. .

Elimin82597d ago

@ Why o why....

Lamb chops is better. Just saying. :)

thorstein2597d ago

@darth...

Truly bizarre. Who the hell mentioned Witcher 3? And why wouldn't I love that as well?

WTF, hateboys, get off the hatewagon and enjoy some games.

While the game is good, definitely not better than The witcher 3, GG done very good job in their first open world.
I can see GG take a lot of notes from CDProjekt which is good thing.

G20WLY2597d ago

They did more than that, mate, they took some staff too. :^)

bluefox7552597d ago

The action in Horizon is objectively better. I guess it depends what you're looking for in a game if you're to determine which is better for you.

Genuine-User2597d ago (Edited 2597d ago )

"Is Horizon Zero Dawn the Best Open-World Action Game We've Seen in Recent Years?"

No. Horizon is THE best open world action RPG of all time.

meka26112597d ago

Yea no way is that true. Horizon is a great game but still has problems like any other game.

morganfell2597d ago (Edited 2597d ago )

"...still has problems like any other game."

Really? I have seen some games recently get all 10s. If they didn't get a 10 the the offending site was DDOSed. I guess those games are PERFECT and have absolutely no issues, right? Hence the 10...

Just goes to show you the worthlessness of game opini...errr...I mean reviewers.

meka26112597d ago

Umm no what I'm saying is no game is perfect I don't agree with any review that says a game is perfect.

morganfell2597d ago

Since by your own admittance no game is perfect, you must realize that still does not prevent a game from being the best in its genre. It does not have to be perfect to be the best in its field. It is why your initial remark did not make sense. You are stating that the reason it wasn't the best was because it had problems like any other game. How does having issues as do all games stop a title from coming out ahead? See?

How does having issues prevent a game from being better than all other games in its field that by your own admission also have issues? Had you stated it wasn't the best because it had MORE issues than other games then that would have been a qualifier for your remark. But in its current form it does not pass muster.

I can honestly say I havent been this excited about a game in years, and to have such high hype levels and have them not just met but exceeded, does not happen that ofter in a generation. Probably the Last of Us was the last time.

Gameplay is the real star here. The combat is incredible. The controls are so tight and fluid. The tactical nature is something Ive never seen in an open world game and a game could be based on that alone, even without the RPG and exploring stuff.

But you cant ignore the graphics. 2 weeks in, Im still running around and stopping to look at every new thing I see. 500 screen shots and over an hour of video in photomode. Some are really gorgeous and very art. This games graphics are staggering.

And the apparent weak point before release, the story, has actually turned out really well. I was avoiding story missions a lot to stretch the game out, but once I got to a certain spot, I was really hooked and wanted to know what happens next. The pacing is really good and the world is so intriguing. And I really like Aloy, and lot of the randoms are pretty interesting too. Im normally not into all that stuff that much, its just a means to an end for me, but this game has been better than most.

I have a few niggles with the game, but they are all really petty. The negatives in this game against the positives are like a drop of water in a swimming pool. They are there, but they just get dissolved and overwhelmed by the rest of the water.

johndoe112112596d ago

I thought I was the only one that found the story to be excellent. I see a lot of people saying the story was ok but I really enjoyed it. I was really shocked when I found out what really happened.

BigTrain2596d ago

I totally agree. Easily my game of the year so far and I don't expect it to be bumped from that spot. The debate between it and Zelda is endless and ultimately based on personal opinion but my opinion is if Zelda gets a 10 this should be right there with it. Games like Horizon keep me playing video games and Im definitely a senior in this hobby. Long live it!!

Honestly. When I first started this game I thought it was a really great game. NOW, I'm like 45 hours in and it is the best open world game I've ever played in my life and I'm 35. I'm playing on Hard and I'm just having so much fun doing every single thing in this game. I just don't want it to end.

ravens522597d ago

Very hard isn't much harder I'm sure. I had a blast playing on very hard. I'll be beating it again soon enough

DashArrivals2597d ago

Yeah. Once I start a game, I really try not to change the difficulty. I wish I had started on very hard... hell, maybe I should just change it to very hard... because 'hard' is kind of too easy.

_-EDMIX-_2597d ago

I'm also playing on a hard and I could definitely say this game is easily my top 5 favorite open world RPGs I've ever played.

Right now it's up there with Skyrim and Fallout 3.

I love traveling to all the different regions in the game in seeing the different Landscapes and fighting the different robots I love the versatility of the character of being able to fight in stealth up close or being able to use a range of arrows as well as setting up a whole bunch of traps.

Traveling from point A to point B in this game is probably the best experience I've ever had traveline between locations and any open world game.

I actually enjoy the system they have set up for the crafting because you're never handed anything for free , you actually always need to have wood for your arrows, you need to kill animals to make your potions all the time and you always need the robot parts to continuously build your ammunition and material you need to continue in the game so every Arrow fight you get into you will was ammo and you will lose health so you always need to replenish on your travels by hunting and Gathering material.

They have a very nice system setup for this.

KaoSouL2597d ago (Edited 2597d ago )

It's OK... the gameplay was solid, the story not so much. Side quests were mostly boring and Aloy's delivery is pretty dull. There is also a lot of weird pauses during dialog sequence that make the game look like it was released before being fully polished.

I died 3 times on hard that I can remeber, twice from falling because the "path" wasn't apperant, and once from fighting the ThunderJaw in Cauldron ZETA before I was equipped to do so. After I beat it I immediately sold it back to Amazon, no real replay value to it IMO.

ASBO-52597d ago

Sure dude, its your story tell it however you want

Zelda isn't really an action game, though. The biggest thing they have in common is the open world, but even those are vastly different. Both are great games and can exist on their own.

Bjorn-c-blocker2597d ago

I think breath of the wild is a whole different beast. It is more like an adventure game with puzzles and action.
Let Horizon be the best at what it does and let Zelda be what it is and stop the Jim sterling fuelled crap. PS f jim sterling for trying to make console wars.

The butt-hurt surrounding Zelda is astounding. I felt like the first person that brought it up in this thread would have their head torn off.

DF Weekly: Do we actually need The Last of Us Part 2 and Horizon Zero Dawn remasters?

With the details we now have in terms of features and pricing, I don't think there are any significant concerns remaining - just that perhaps that the term 'remastered' in the title is a little misplaced. Essentially, what we're dealing with here is broadly equivalent to a release along the lines of Death Stranding: Director's Cut. It's the original game with a dash of extra content and additional visual modes that tap into the power of PlayStation 5.

Bloodborne, Infamous, Killzone, Resistance, Puppeteer, Jak and Daxter etc are all better choices

Even a full on remake of Drakes Fortune I’d take

PrinceOfAnger147d ago

killzone 2/3 definitely a better choice, i have recently finished the games on pc and thought about that, a full remake like demon souls is even better

darthv72146d ago

2&3 are still fine... I'd take the first one as a full remake before the others. They could flesh out more of the backstory that the sequels touch on. Even go deeper into the lore of Helgan.

specialguest146d ago

KZ 2/3 would be amazing. KZ 2 was a graphical masterpiece back then. With today's modern tech, all of those tricks Guerilla Games did to create the effects like the lighting, storm effects, etc, they could now be done in real-time and more realistic

Cacabunga145d ago

Killzone 2-3
Golden Abyss remake
Infamous 2

RaidenBlack146d ago

Uncharted 1 still got a decent remaster for 8th gen ... a remake is not that much of a requirement ...
instead remake candidates should be from 5th or 6th gen
and as for proper remasters (not just lazy res upscale): Killzone 2 & 3 obviously and also Resistance/inFamous (as well as MGS4 :P)

-Foxtrot146d ago

My point with the list is that I’d rather see those titles than what we are getting…titles which are only 3-5 years old and still hold up today

CrashMania146d ago

Sony own the Demons Souls and Bloodborne IP, I wish they'd do something with Bloodborne at the very least.

vfl523146d ago

The way you worded that makes me think you don't realize they already remade demon souls

146d ago
GamingSinceForever146d ago

Not one of those will sell more copies than TLOU2 Remaster. The sooner we realize that these gaming sites and their followers are less than 1% of the buying public the better off we’ll be.

Sure we prefer newer titles but this is business and a business is what Sony is running.

JackBNimble146d ago

Don't you think they could be doing something better with their time and money, like maybe making something new? Or have they become lazy and just reliving the past with the same old games over and over.

Gez ... do something fresh and new already .

notachance146d ago

I'd rather for them to go Square Enix route and remake/remaster their PS1 libraries instead of these unnecessary remaster

come on, legend of dragoon..

Gamingsince1981146d ago

What's with the "need" anyway ? This is video games, no one needs them at all, we need water , we need air, we don't need games.

Barlos146d ago

I would love a remake/remaster of KZ1. For its time it really pushed the PS2 hard and because of that it had a few issues. This is begging to be given the Bluepoint touch and brought up to date. I'd love to see an updated Killzone trilogy collection for sure.

Yi-Long146d ago

Sony killed the game and the studio behind it, but a Remaster of the excellent Driveclub would absolutely be my favorite release if it happened. Just a delicious racing game.

FinalFantasyFanatic145d ago (Edited 145d ago )

So many better choices, I can't fathom why reasonably recent games are getting picked over Classics that are more deserving.

Duke19146d ago

Nope. But HD remasters are an easy cash grab that the masses shovel cash for because while they complain about remakes, they still buy them

PRIMORDUS146d ago

Not if they release on a platform that never received the original in the first place like PC.

46player145d ago

No complaint here, I want the updated graphics.

Ra3030146d ago

My thoughts on this is do we need Richard Leadbetter's or Digital Foundry's opinion on anything........ever? I know I don't they do nothing for me and never have.

specialguest146d ago

You may not, but tons of people do since the video has 4,700 Likes to 112 Dislikes

Chocoburger146d ago

That guy is a buffoon, DF Direct is the best gaming podcast around. I look forward to it every week.

BehindTheRows145d ago

By that same token, some may not NEED remasters, while others may/do.

Amplitude146d ago (Edited 146d ago )

DF videos are typically absolutely amazing game reviews first and foremost. They have great intros, explain the mechanics well, tell you if they enjoyed it or not (I usually vibe well with John's games personally), and then they have the best tech breakdowns of a game's performance which is very very important to me. I want to know what settings to run at on PC, and on PS5 I wanna know if the 60fps mode runs well or not because if it doesn't... well I'll just get it on PC (If it isn't completely broken there too). DF Retro is also always unbelievably interesting and super well edited and inspired my YouTube channel which just crossed 1200 subs (wooo!). They helped me a lot with understanding game development and got me interested in goofing around with game engines and PC building in general back in the day.

I don't mean any offence by this but you sound like somebody who skims their analysis videos, selectively scrolls to the stats, says "who cares?", and then closes it. Or possibly somebody who watches (stolen) cut clips on TikTok? Even if you are somehow unaffected by blurry images and fluctuating frame rates (some people are and I envy you) I recommend watching a full DF episode one day. They're extremely interesting and I watch literally all of them even if I have no interest in the game.

Joris de Man on composing music for the Horizon series

In the video game industry, where visual design and game mechanics typically grab the limelight, the significance of music in enhancing the overall gaming experience is often underestimated. Music can be a key component in the player’s emotional connection with a game. It amplifies emotional impact, heightens tension, and can be a powerful driver of narrative. We’ve had the chance to speak to Joris de Man, a renowned Dutch composer best known for his work on the Killzone series, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and its sequel Horizon: Forbidden West. During the Game Access conference in Brno, we talked about the process of composing music for video games and how he created the harmonies that have shaped some of our most beloved gaming experiences.

Sonic1881312d ago (Edited 312d ago )

To keep using him as the music composer in their games.

Joris seems like a great guy. I spoke to him briefly once about how much I loved his music and he was really friendly/humble.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim351d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC351d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
