So, 360 outsold XBone buy nearly three million consoles last year according to vgchartz. who estimates Xbone sales two million units higher than several other sales tracking firms which probably themselves are over tracking XBone.

No wonder Microsoft is so desperate that they need to constantly use misleading advertising and distraction tactics.

Obscure_Observer3016d ago

@tyasia0

Yeah?

Total Lead: 462,988 - XOne

Xbox One Total Sales: 28,279,951

Xbox 360 Total Sales: 27,816,963

Do the match, genius. Xbox One has a 462,988 units LEAD over the 360 in the same timeframe. Bad news for you i guess? :)

But i welcome you to try and twist positive news to suit your agenda.

affrogamer3016d ago

this shows that despite how stellar PS4 sales has been, the xbox one is doing great as well considering the fact that 'red ring of death' replacements and re-purchases are included in the 360 sales

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,871,767 – X360

Gap change in latest month: 423,676 – X360

Next month the 360 will have sold more.

Face reality, XBone had a reasonably strong start then died. And you have to understand the market is bigger. Even though the article doesn't talk about it the truth is that the market share of XBone is WAY less than 360's was.

darthv723016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

to be fair... I do believe the 360 had a little extra help in the form of RRoD which is something the xb1 is not suffering from. So those xb1 sales are all legit purchases and not padded by replacement purchases.

@tyasia, the market is no bigger this gen than it was last. What makes you think it's bigger? Wii was a huge seller due to it's popularity with casuals. Are you saying casuals are going to buy the PS4 and XB1 in droves like they did the wii? They may buy the switch but the Ps4 and XB1 are for the hardcore not the casual.

yeahright23016d ago

I don't think you read his comment properly. He said last year, not lifetime.

goatking3016d ago

Don't take someone like him seriously, he doesn't see reality just his little fanboy reality.

Rude-ro3015d ago

Xbox fans when PS3 took the overall lead over 360- yeah, but market share.

Xbox one shows less than one percent of growth over 9 years ago... they are doing better!

No. Showing such little growth from 8 years ago is in no way a success.

And 2, absolutely not one ounce of fact with used numbers and THE most accurate fact about vgcharts is their over guessing with Microsoft numbers...

TheCommentator3015d ago (Edited 3015d ago )

@ tyasia

Xb1 sales will rise after the release of Scorpio too, People are waiting for Scorpio information before making purchases on XB1S or waiting for Scorpio. Would you buy a console that you knew was going to have a "big brother" in a year, or would you wait until you could make a better choice?

Additionally, has anybody looked at when price drops occurred, when new models came out, or any other influences that impacted the variables wee see in this type of article? Has anybody got a source for XB1 sales figures from MS, because I thought MS didn't release them anymore?

There's so much wrong with what you're saying it's unreal, but at least you understand marketshare.

XB1 has about 30% marketshare and is a failure? That makes Apple a more of a failure, with only 15 percent ios marketshare compared to Androids 85%. Is Apple a failure?

ABizzel13015d ago

I get what both of you are trying to say, but the reality of the situation is somewhere in between your two comments.

The XBO is doing well, but the truth of the matter is both last gen consoles are about to be ahead of it in sales by the end of 2017 unless the XBO does something big this holiday. The PS3 is already ahead of it in the same time frame, and the 360 is right behind it.

Yes the 360 had a boost from RRoD during this period, but the XBO's was right behind the PS4 as being one of the fastest selling launch consoles of all time, and that was due to the success of said 360.

The reality is, the 360 had a hard launch sales wise, because the original Xbox wasn't a success outside of NA. Years 1 and 2 were a struggle for the 360 where the console couldn't break 8m unts either year. It wasn't until it's 3rd (RRoD / GTA4 / $199 Arcade), 4th ($199 Arcade / $299 Elite), and 5th (Kinect, Arcade $149, 4GB 360s $199, Elite $249, 250GB 360s $299) year on the market that the 360 took off like a rocket and broke +10m. It went on to break 13m in it's 5th and 6th year and settled back down to 10m it's 7th, and in 2013 it's final 6m when the XBO was released.

The XBO has consistently sold around 8m units in it's 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year. Adding it's stellar launch and that's why the XBO is marginally ahead. The problem is the 360 has consistently done better than the XBO through the first 9 months of the year. It's not until the holiday when the XBO has amazing deals, bundles, and price cuts that the XBO turns the year around and outsells the 360. And unfortunately once again it nets them a solid +8m consoles, but the 360 is now at the point where it was doing +10m a year and soon 13m, and that lead the XBO has is about to be taken.

The 360 will outsell the XBO, simply because I don't think this generation is going to last as long (2005 - 2015 360 vs 2013 - 2020 IMO XBO). Also because unlike last-gen where the Xbox brand dominated NA and did well globally, the XBO isn't dominating NA and will likely share NA with a 55:45 / 60:40 split with PS4, and is selling behind 360 globally with a slower EU ratio, and a stark decline in JP which is saying a lot considering the 360 tanked in JP.

If the XBO continues on it's current trajectory it's looking at 62m units sold by 2020, which when compared to the 360 in the same time frame is 60m vs 74m in favor of 360.

So the XBOX is doing well (not great or amazing, and not bad or awful), it'll end up doing well by the end of it's lifecycle, but it will be outsold by the 360 unless something big happens for them, and unfortunately I don't think Scorpio is going to be the answer. They tried Kinect too soon and it cost them the early race, they already have a Slim, and they're already at $250. Their next move has to be $199 (which they'll likely take a loss on thanks to the UHD player), new games AAA exclusive IPs (Reach out to your 2nd party, and make 343 and The Coalition work on dual IP's Halo & New IP, Gears and New IP), and new services for gamers.

🐴 Translator activated:

The Xbone is doomed because it's sales only as good as a console that went on to sell around 80 million. MS is misleading because I can't stand the notion that AAA, Native 4K on Scorpio might actually be real, so I'm going to pretend it's lies instead. That'll stop me from having to cry myself to sleep at night thinking about why the Pro can't do native 4K AAA content simply because it's underpowered.

Translator off

What will they say after the Scorpio reveal shows MS was telling the truth? Who knows, but stay tuned to find out! E3 is going to be fun around here this year with native 4K and some big game announcements from MS to make good on all this recent PR!!!

Sunny_D3015d ago

Congrats, you'll be able to play Forza and uhhhhh something at 4K for a price of $500. Oh man, PS4 Pro sure will get its ass kicked with Horizon, NIOH, GT, Nier, Yakuza, Gravity rush being on it. 😂

TheCommentator3015d ago (Edited 3015d ago )

Sunny, I can't tell if you're trying to mock me, or if that's really the only game you could come up with. If you don't like MS' exclusives, fine, but that's your opinion. Besides Uncharted and Horizon, Sony offers nothing of interest to me. I play "Forza, Halo, Gears", sure, but Sea of Thieves is an attractive MMO, Halo Wars 2 is a great RTS, Crackdown multiplayer was always a blast, and the first State of Decay has great survival horror gameplay. If it's not what you like, go play on a PS4 and enjoy the extra sales your console can boast about!

MS has dropped hints of returning IP, Playground is likely developing an open world action game for MS, MS said last year that they were working on other games which still haven't been announced yet, they've said this year that they have more games coming for Xbox than they have before, they went to Japan to talk to 3rd parties. Mock the situation all you want though, MS will show the same stuff at E3 regardless of your beliefs, and I believe they'll show a stronger commitment to games than in the past.

You can basically say the xbox one is doing poorly because the sales are basically the same as the 360 in its time

PhoenixUp3016d ago

So by that logic Xbox 360 was doing poorly at this time

tyasia03016d ago

No, the market has grown.

It's like the value of a dollar 50 years ago is not the same as the value of a dollar today.

yeahright23016d ago

The market has grown, sure, but not quite as much as you're letting on. the US population has grown what? 10, 20 million since the launch of last gen? of that maybe 3 or 4 million max are gamers and that's counting those that weren't old enough to be gamers yet. with a near 50/50 ps4 vs x1 split, that's about 2 million. less the RROD padding from last gen,... I'd say X1 is doing a bit better than ok, though that is on the down turn based of vgchartz figures.. Not nearly their (boneheaded) prediction of 1 billion consoles sold, but still, it's selling well enough.

Obscure_Observer3016d ago

Lol.

Pathetic attempt to downplay Xbox One lead over the 360.

tyasia03016d ago

Gap change over last 12 months: 2,871,767 – X360

In a market that has twice as many consoles as last generation.

That doesn't need downplay, it's a fact Xbox is selling poorly and sales have slowed.

BarneyS3016d ago

That lead will be gone in two months though. 360 was accelerating at this point in its lifetime, Xbone's momentum is mostly gone at this point.

LexHazard793016d ago

What Im more impressed about is Xbox One. Its being sold in less markets than its predecessor and out pacing it by a small margin.

tyasia03016d ago

No it's not. That's wrong and on top of being wrong XBone is the first Microsoft console sold in China.

And you guys keep talking about outpacing while ignoring this - Gap change over last 12 months: 2,871,767 – X360

goatking3016d ago (Edited 3016d ago )

So by your logic the ps3 didn't do well either as it has a less than 1 million lead on 360. This gen isn't even as big as last gen due to how amazing the wii did, and the 360 and ps3 combined to about 170 million, so far this gen xbo and ps4 have combined to about 85 million, and were pretty much halfway through this gen, so this gen is pretty on pace with last gen, not counting the wii. Don't know why you are under some delusion that there is double the amount this gen to last gen.

yeahright23016d ago

You seem to be getting replies about stuff you didn't say.

@goatking
He was talking about the number of territories the xbox consoles released in, not about how X1 should be selling double this gen.

3016d ago
BarneyS3015d ago

@goatking

You're right, for PlayStation's standard, ps3 didn't do very well. And if you start comparing ps3/360 with ps4/xbone you have to align the sales just like in this xbone vs 360 graph. Vgchartz does that as well.

http://www.vgchartz.com/art...

As you can see: a 21 million lead for this gen, mostly because of PS4.

Survivor Mercs to Gain Couch Co-op Alongside Console Release This Summer

"There are plenty of Vampire Survivors-style "Bullet heaven" games in the sea, but it's hard to care about the ones that don't have co-op. If you don't at least bring the same features to the table as the game you're inspired by, what's the point? Well, Survivor Mercs from Wandering Wizard is already out in Steam Early Access, and when it fully launches, it will bring the co-op. Having tried the single-player demo on Steam, we're excited for it," says Co-Optimus.
