Nintendo Switch will come without LAN adapter, apparently

The final list of products of the HORI brand, leaked yesterday and was later confirmed as real, includes not only an interesting Arcade Stick but also a network adapter, a LAN adapter, which has caused much controversy among the community because it would mean that Switch will not have Ethernet port. What do you think?

If true Ninty is about to screw themselves. Its damn 2017 and you still can't have a ethernet port on a freaking console what kinda bs is that?

Neonridr2679d ago

Lots of devices use wifi only. Ethernet port just adds more cost to the unit.

LOL_WUT2679d ago

You'd think they would've learned from the WiiU. This is unacceptable ;)

darthv722679d ago

while ethernet does offer a more direct connection to a home network... I prefer to use wireless. Way more convenient and I can set my systems anywhere I want as there are no restrictions on having to run ethernet cables all over the place.

Neon, some people just want to complain for the sake of complaining. there is nothing wrong with lack of ethernet port especially with so many things cutting the cord these days.

Kokyu2678d ago

No dev uses just Wifi

TKCMuzzer2678d ago

Very little cost, it's not like their an uncommon component. You can defend this but it should be standard in a modern device.

bouzebbal2678d ago

tbh for nintendo machines online adds absolutely NOTHING..
on Wii U i have no idea how online works, or how to check my online status

Smitty20202678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

Wifi isn't a strong connection and is inconstant it can change compared to LAN ,I never play wifi

sevilha822678d ago

Even tv's have Ethernet ports this day's,come on ,even thou I see your point you have to agree that it was a retarded decision by Nintendo....

The majority of console gamers don't care for wired connections anyway. Outside of a few very dedicated gamers like yourself, almost nobody will care about the lack of a Ethernet port.

They're not shooting themselves on the foot because of the lack of an Ethernet port. There are much bigger concerns for them: price point, launch lineup, specs, software support to avoid game droughts, having a competent online infrastructure, etc.

Having a Ethernet port is the least of their concerns. If you care so much about it, just buy an Ethernet adapter. Again, the majority of consumers won't care.

Kokyu2678d ago

Only Nintendo people dont care for wited connections apprently.

jznrpg2678d ago

I am wired because I have a 1gb connection .

Smitty20202678d ago

It's not not point in just buying an adapter it's the fact ppl r shelling out x amounts of money for a console which in my eyes is unfinished

Erik73572679d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

Never saw Ps vita get ethernet adapater, but hey Nintendo gives you option to buy accesory to have ethernet adapter unlike Sony for their portable devices.

Honestly its not that big of a deal. I think people who will make a scene about this are the people who never liked Switch and want it to fail. You can can just buy the adapter
"And you still can't have ethrrnet" yes you can, what is bs is your comment

Aenea2678d ago

Well, I kinda assumed the portable part would have WiFi but the dock I thought would have an ethernet port...

Comparing it to the Vita is thus weird, the Vita doesn't have a dock... The Switch is a hybrid console....

Kokyu2678d ago

Yeah the PSV doesnt have ethernet and its selling so well isnt it?

ocelot072678d ago

Sony's £40 PSTV had an Ethernet port and that was a home console dedicated for a TV. The Vita was purely a handheld.

redaxis2678d ago

It's stupid to compare it with PS Vita. Vita is a handheld, it's like saying iphone doesn't have a LAN port. No matter how hybrid the Switch is, being a console is still a big part of it. You don't need very fast internet speed for gaming but you'd want a stable and consistent connection. WIFI can drop easily when you have a few phones, tablets, tv boxes connected to the router. I have a good router, fast internet connection, but i still chose LAN connection through a homeplug to my PS4.

rocketpanda2678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

Because the vita like all small portable consoles are.......wait for it......portable gaming machines. Why not add the DS and 3DS on the your list? The Switch is going against the PS4 and Xbox regardless how hybrid the Switch is.

Or maybe you seem to have a certain hate towards Sony for being overly selective in point. You would have a valid point if current home consoles didn't come with Ethernet built-in and compare like-for-like, but you really don't and grasping at thin air.

Personally I could care less if it has or hasn't a built-in Ethernet port and like most use WiFi. Having it as an option as an add-on is a valid reason for bringing the costs down, Similar to what the GameCube done. Making silly comparisons though, irks me. Who hell questions why a small portable console doesn't have an Ethernet port?

jznrpg2678d ago

Its not a console also its strictly handheld

If it's supported then it's not a problem as long as it's cheap to buy. Still bad on them not to include it on the dock.

It kind of reminds me of the crap that Apple does.

MrMagz2678d ago

It would actually makes sense if you want to take an online game on the go smoothly. If you're running an online game through LAN, taking it off the dock would most likely lose the connection since it would take a couple of seconds to switch over to wireless Internet. Since an ethernet port would just add to the cost, I feel that it makes sense for them just not to include it.

pwnsause_returns2678d ago

that does make sense now that you mention it. i can imagine when switching between portable to home console, there would be an interruption.

okay.....my internet speed is fast enough so Im good

Omnislashver362678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

It's not about speed, it's about latency. Your internet speed might transfer 50mb/sec, but if it's delay is a second off, that interupts gaming. Simple. It's like saying this.

Situation A- Car is moving 50lbs of stuff to location, but is a second off
Situation B- Car is only moving 1 lb of stuff to location, but is on time

For gaming situation B is better, because it's not about overall data movement, it's about being on time. You can have all the speed in the world, but if it's latency is off, you lose. Ethernet is superior to WiFi.

EddieNX 2678d ago

Omnislash, then buy the adapter and stop crying lol

deadfrag2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

If you have the Wii U and brought an adapter you can use the same one!

Neonridr2678d ago

yep, my Wii U LAN adapter is actually just the Wii LAN adapter..

deafdani2679d ago (Edited 2679d ago )

Why would people expect otherwise? Wii didn't have it, Wii U didn't have it, and Switch, being a portable console, sure as hell won't have it.

Nintendo doesn't want ethernet ports on their consoles. This has been a fact for more than 10 years already. Nothing to see here, move along, people.

Moonman2679d ago

Your comment made me laugh, agreed. Lol

KwietStorm_BLM2678d ago (Edited 2678d ago )

You just laid out the problem. Nintendo doesn't get it. They don't want to get it. People want Nintendo to catch up, but Nintendo just wants to do things their way for eternity.
