Will the XBOX 360 Have Enough Games This Holiday?

Well, it's about time Sony had some games. 2007 was a year of watching my PS3 collect dust for the most part... I'm glad that there are more Sony titles out this year.

But, I dont think it'll be a bad holiday for the 360, both Fable & Gears2 look very promising... & I can't wait to play Left for Dead myself.... & it may be multi, but after Gears, the game I want most this year is Fallout 3.

Not to mention the multi-platform games: Rock Band 2, Guitar Hero World Tour, Rise of the Argonauts, Far Cry 2, Prince of Persia, Tomb Raider Underworld.

So in addition to having a great exclusive lineup, there's also a set of games that are multi-plat that will rock. And if all you have is a 360, then there's gaming goodness for months.

The 360 has games that cater to the people who own the 360 already. The only thing that will sell a 360 to someone is the price and maybe if they want to play GTA4 or Madden 09 for just $260(system and game). The 360 doens't have a system seller like Little Big Planet.

Gears 2 and Fable 2 will be huge, but Left for Dead if you've seen the gameplay videos looks repetative and graphically inferior(average game at best). Banjo will be a flop for sure and the other games on the list I've never heard of.

@mikeslemonade, I totally agree. SOCOM is a system seller as is LBP, Resistance2 and going into next year Killzone 2 and possibly Infamous. MotorStorm might move some units aswell.(played the demo yesterday and it kicks @ss)

Really have to laugh at the pathtic SDF fanboy spin on this. They were all screamming back in 06 wait till the ps3 comes out and it flop when it was release. I will be playing 4 games like a maniac, Gears 2 , Fallout 3 , Left 4 Dead & GH4. LBP is a possibility. My PS3 gets used for 1.Playing Blu ray movies & DVD's, 2. Playing Music CD's , 3. Games maybe once a year.

For one of the first times, I agree with something you've said here;
'Crimson Skies 3'. Simply awesome game, still play that BC on my 360 now.
Problem being; MS dismantled the developers due to the failure of the ONE game, being 'Shadowrun' and core members are working for Capcom for Dark Void which does look spiritually similar...
Similar situation with Digital Anvil who made the great 'Freelancer' and the god-awful 'Brute Force', one bad game, shut down and dissolved.

Any idea why I don't like the way MS treat developers compared to others now?

That's great, but it isn't the original developer as they are now gone. You have to admit, Crimson Skies was a brilliantly developed game, why the need to close down after one bad egg?

I'm a bit dubious about franchises being passed about. Some go sour in the hands of new developers, surely you must of seen it happen...I call it the 'Crash Bandicoot effect'.
Wait, that doesn't actually mean they'll be exclusive to MS consoles anyway, does it?

That's just the use of electronic entertainment rights of the IP being licensed from MS so they essentially have permission from MS to make more games.

It will be 360 Exclusive because MS still owns the IP...It just that Smith & Tinker is license to developing it.

I guarantee you, we will see a new Crimson Skies by next year. Don't be surprise if MS announce it on E3 09. Remember, MS has not yet shown what is coming out in 09 aside for Alan Wake, Splinter Cell and Halo Wars.

Fable 2 is the only one I'm buying for the xbox 360 this year. Left 4 Dead will be just that on the xbox 360, cos I'm getting it on my kick ass PC which number crunches the xbox 360 and ps3 combined. as for Gears of War 2, not interested. I didn't care for the 1st one's cluncky controls and short gameplay. Banjo < hahaahhahaah, yeah right. I know where to get the best platformers and it's not xbox 360. Ratchet and clank is the only platformer in town, man.

So, yeah, the xbox 360 is lacking content on my end. Ps3 is too, but it has a few stand out games I'm looking forward to that are exclusive.

1. Warriors Orochi 2? Never heard of the original, nor played the Dynasty Warriors series or have interest in it.
2. Never liked Fable, generally don't like RPGs anyway. Whats in it for me in '2?
3. Didn't like GeoW1. Why would I like 2? probably worth a rent after how short and unsatisfying the original was for me, depends if they make Marcus Fenix actually likable this time.
4. C&C: Red Alert 3. Don't do RTS's either.
5. Banjo? Maybe. Its a platformer and its supposed to come out cheaper than most retail games and look around you; If any genre needs support from vanishing its the platformer. Its slowly going the way of the sideway beat 'em up.
6. L4D...Maybe. But I refuse to pay to play online. Laptops probably capable of running it anyway or I'll just wait until the correctly ported PS3 version.
7. Last Remnant? See Fable2, I don't do RPGs.

So I'll probably get Banjo for my 360 because its a platformer but I'll be checking reviews and asking friends first.

This is why the way MS market 360 annoys me; they force me with what they think I WANT to play and many others too. I don't want to play all that damn 'hardcore' gaming type forced demographic that doesn't actually exist. For a game to get instant success, it has to have;

1. Online features which you can't access without paying for of free trials. Instead of concentrating solely on a completely fantastic single player game/story.
2. 'Hardcore' stuff, y'know like marines with no personality and more muscles than brains and no well thought out narrative even though the game is pretending to be the quality of a blockbuster film. (Halo is not in this category, something beginning with 'G' that rhymes with 'ears' is.)
3. Gore; the more unnecessary gore and violence the better, apparently! because developers can't put anything more creative in it the more a game will sell and get critical acclaim.
4. Middleware based games which can actually easily ported to other systems anyway. Even though they are exclusives and actually prove nothing technically. I'm speaking UE3 here. I sort of like developers making new engines specifically for that project and that alone.
5. Not very well thought out concepts/storylines/background details since Halo1.
6. Gamerscore/Achievements. I don't care. I played Crackdown all the way through because it was FUN. F-U-N, not because I wanted to brag or have 'housepoints'. I don't need to be told I was 'good' because I reloaded a gun in Gears.

In total, exclusive wise, its just the fact that in about 4 years of exclusives my 360 has less games that appeal to me than a console that has been out for 2 years and is always played down for no apparent reason, being the PS3 and been said to 'have no games'.

Generally, I HATE the way MS are handling the 360 and actually see the 360s real gaming potential come out once MS have moved away from the focus of it so much allowing new genres and games that just aren't sequels or 'hardcore'.
The 360 just isn't churning out the legends the XBOX had and someones stealing the show recently with diversity as a weapon being the PS3.

I hope you see what I mean; I just generally find the 360's exclusives so-so. I really wish those games I mentioned up there sometime soon so I use my 360 more than a GW2 and REZHD playing machine.

Honestly I think we can pretty much agree that the two systems are pretty equal in terms of graphics and people have different priorities w/ their game systems. For some its price, for others its which one their friends has, or which games are coming out for what.

All depends on how many games = "enough games" and if you're a PS360 owner, or just a 360 owner.

If you're a 360 only owner, then yes there's more then enough games.

If you're a PS360 owner, then well, depends really on your taste in games, what console you're getting that game on, etc.

Like me for example, I have two confirmed 360 games for this holiday, Fable 2 and Gears 2, if I decide to get CoD WaW then that'll be another 360 game I get, and Prince of Persia which I may get, I'm undecided on a console for that, but lets assume I get it on 360, then that's 4 games this holiday for my 360, and 4 games I believe is enough for me, especially since I own a PS3 and will be getting games for that system as well.

So for me if it came down to number of games I'm getting this holiday for my 360, it'd be...

2 games - "wish the 360 had another game or two to offer me"
3 games - "good enough"
4+ games - "perfect" / "more than enough" (if higher then 4)

In defense of 360 (I have PS3), Bioshock and Alone in the dark have already appeared on 360 so those aren't really fair to include (though they will both be superior on PS3 due to their late arrivals); but LBP and Resistance 2 should do well.

Their are too many AAA multiplat games this year too really say neither system has enough games. Honestly, their is only one exclusive from both systems that I want. Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 will have plenty of games. Last year the 360 had the upper hand but this year I feel that the PS3 and 360 are on par when it comes to games.

But, one thing I noticed is that the Xbox 360 has yet to get a big AAA exclusive this year so far, and it's similiar to what the PS3 went through last year because the PS3 really didn't get a big game last year until Uncharted Drakes Fortune in November.

Now I think the only question is will Microsoft have enough games for 2009 because Microsoft has done very little talk on their 2009 games whenever 2009 is just a couple of months away.

2009 might be better for the 360. But you're right, they haven't talked about anything really coming as far as big heavy exclusives go. There is Alan Wake and Halo Wars. But that's something we've already known for awhile.

I have enough games as it is (still playing Mass Effect...it's good). But my must-buys are Gears 2 and Fable 2, though Gears feels so much more hardcore than the 1st. And to those who say it's more of the same, no. I think they've stepped it up quite a few notches. Being able to use human shields is a nice touch, but it's the new weapons (and that cool shield) and the awesome level design (what a great game world) that make it worth the dough.

Fable 2...I played Lost Chapters on my pc, which was great. Visually, Fable was one of the best looking rpgs of the time, and Fable 2 caries that same look (very European) and I did like the style. But it was just like Morrowind or Oblivion - an rpg for people with WAY too much time on their hands. Don't get me wrong, I loved the Elder Scrolls series. It's just that you know, some of us have jobs and get home just to sleep:P

But be honest. Most of the games you probably are dying to play on your system you can probably find on the ps3 as well. The only game that the 360 has that Im sure everyone would want on the ps3 is Fable 2. Everything else will be overshadowed by multiplats. I can almost garantee that everyone will be playing their multiplats then their exclusives all year long. As much as I love Motorstorm 2, I can almost garantee that I will be playing Midnight club over it. Plain and simple, 2008 is year of the multiplats.

2007 was year of the 360, 2008 is the year of the multiplats, and 2009 will be the year of the ps3. LBP, R2, Gears of War 2, Motorstorm and Fable will be good games but I would not trade COD WAW, Pure, Midnight club LA, NBA 2K9, Quantum Solace, and Prince of Persia for any of them. Though it would be hard for me to let go of Fable 2. This is coming from a PS3 fanboy as well. So obviously Im not being biased.

Honestly, no (although that still doesn't have anything to do with the fact that this article is nonsense). Yes, there are many multiplatform games I'm looking forward to, but there are just as many if not more Xbox 360 console exclusives that I want, at least ten coming out during this holiday season. I also want some PS3 exclusives, mind you, but as far as my personal tastes go (I'd like to stress that - my personal tastes), that list is not nearly as long.

By the way, 2009 will be the year of the Wii, just like every other recent year, but even if we conveniently ignore its existence, I believe it's way to early to be making such claims. Remember, both 2007 and 2008 were also supposed to be years of the PS3.

Oh, and my Fable 2 is LittleBigPlanet :)
I do intend to buy a PS3 as soon as it's $200, though.

I feel Sony has a lot more variety even though it's a lot more expensive.
-PS3 has great games coming out this Holiday Season and even next year looks greater then this year.
-It also has free online and Home comes out this Fall that's gonna be huge for Sony.
-It's a Blu-ray player and it's pretty obvious Blu-ray will replace the DVD and until the next gen consoles after that come out DD will be the future but for now until then Blu-ray is the future for these present consoles.
-More variety of games is key to pleasing a big audience.
1.) Family Games (Casual): Exclusives!
ex.) Sing Star, Little Big Planet, Eye Pet, Red Baron Arcade, Flower, Fat Princess, etc.
2.) Hardcore Games: Exclusives!
ex.) Resistance 2, Bioshock, SOCOM, Motorstorm 2, Wipe Out HD, Valkryia Chronicles, Disgea 3, etc.
Plus Multiplatform games.

Most of the games mentioned are hardcore games only Banjo Kazooie is casual the rest are not casual.

I'm gonna get a 360 also I already have a PS3 so I'm looking forward to playing some of those exclusives.

It's hard to tell who will win in the U.S this holiday season from a next gen gamer stand point but it's definitely gonna be interesting to see what happens.

My bets go out to the PS3 to take the U.S this holiday season just by the large variety.

The rest of the world belongs to Sony obviously but in my country of America it's gonna be a tug a war to wins.

Microsoft wouldn't have came up with those things if the PS3 didn't use them first. Same thing with trophies. I find it funny how Microsoft came up with medals the minute Sony came up with trophies. Price wise I believe the 360 has a good shot but the game I think may have the biggest appeal is that Little Big Planet. It's appealing to the hardcore, parents, and causals. I play my 360 every day with friends across the country.
