The Wii U didn't look kiddy, it just doesn't have an iconic look to it especially compared to its predecessors. It's always marketed secondarily behind the Gamepad.

I guess its ahead of the Wii U if you think the Gameboy Advanced Player was ahead of Wii U because that is what the Switch is a handheld that outputs to your TV.

If we were going to go with such a loose definition for claiming something is a handheld, then I could claim the Wii U was a portable console because I could plug it into a spare battery pack lugged around in a backpack while playing on the screen of the gamepad, or I could call the 3DS a home console because that's usually where I play mine, instead of taking it outside constantly.

It's pretty apparent to anyone paying attention that the portability factor is just the side show.
Yeah, it was advertised heavily, but why would they not show how it's different from other home consoles?
Most people aren't going to be like those in the reveal trailer, taking it out constantly.
Most are just going to play it at home, and will merely appreciate its on the go factor as an option, not a necessity.

It’s definitely an upgrade, not sure about massive.

Grilla8h ago

It is massive compared to the switch 1. 6-10X the power, but compared to current standards it’s the bare minimum.

RedDevils7h ago

It's just a minor upgrade nothing special. Could have included the Oled screen but greedy Nintendo have something planned for it already.

Yesyes7h ago

Oled screen means nothing when people have OLED tv's.

Rage776h ago

You are self aware of how dumb and "sheepy" that tagline of "greedy" sounds like at this point in time, right?
Every little entitled twat on the internet has used it ad nauseum, as if all of a sudden you somehow struck gold or something. it ALMOST sounds as infantile as the other meme vomit brain rot: "Defending the billion dollar company, blah, blah" FFS. tell me its "irony" at least what you are trying to express, so at least i can give you some credit for being "clever" or bold. I refuse to believe you ACTUALLY believe what you are saying, unironically,

Great review! We have almost the same impression of the Switch 2. I don't care if the screen isn't OLED, because when I put it next to my friend's Steam OLED screen, they barely deviated in quality.

Better than the Steam Deck not as good as the other consoles on the market.

As someone who has been gaming nearly as long as gaming has been around (since the early 70's), you'd think I'd be against this. Having grown up with all the major platforms and the whole notion of physical ownership... but I'm not. i embrace this as it is a revolutionary convenience. And one i know for a fact many (especially here) have not even given the fair chance to use. I get it... i was there too. But now i have a new outlook on it. It really is a hell of an option if you just want to play with no commitments. By no means am i saying this should replace traditional gaming, its an option. And one that people should look at optimistically as a way to compliment traditional gaming. There is room for both to thrive.
