12 Video Games That Drastically Changed Between Reveal And Release

Is being lied to just a harsh reality of being a gamer? Well, y'know, it just might be.

'The most expensive video game ever made at a whopping $500,000, Destiny's original vision was hacked and butchered by Bungie's higher-ups only one year before release,'

That can't be right?

I don't really consider graphical downgrades as a 'drastic change', but I wish I could've played the version of Bioshock Infinite in the early trailer.

attilayavuzer2813d ago

$500,000,000 was the number they were looking for, but it's still wrong as hell. That was the number they were expected to invest in the destiny, all of its sequels, marketing, etc...

sullynathan2813d ago

Destiny is far from the most expensive video game.

Christopher2812d ago

That was $500m for the first few games in a 10 year period and included marketing costs, which doubles development costs at least.

A little research will put an end to most of these "they lied to me" claims.

PhucSeeker2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

Not really. With Bioshock Infinite, you wouldn't had known what had changed unless you went right into the spoiler territory. Some want the fresh experience.

gangsta_red2812d ago

So you're saying it's okay for developers to do a bait and switch as long as the consumer does a little research?

_-EDMIX-_2812d ago

@Gangsta- This information is known to the consumer before purchase bud, if not, that is actually the fault of the consumer for being ignorant, not the developer.

That is like saying to be mad at Gearbox over Borderlands FIRST trailer, as suppose to what they are marketing prior to release.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Sooo what "bait and switch" bud? You do know that is called false advertising and they can be sued for that right?

The thing you are assuming is wrong, is indeed wrong, but you clearly can do something about that under the law.

Its called taking them to court, do you actually have a real claim that can actually be supported or just assumptions of?

Mind you, they can change art direction, narrative etc during development as many of this is shown and explained to a degree before release, what they change that was never known to you in the first place is actually irrelevant.

How can you get mad at something you never even knew about being removed or changed in the first place?

What would your claim actually be? You can only really file such a claim against a company based on information that was marketed as, falsely advertised as etc.

gangsta_red2812d ago

Once again you are going off into wild tangents that have nothing to do with anything. The fact that you keep expanding on points no one else made but yourself is mind boggling.

There's a clear difference between what was shown or advertised in the Bioshock Infinite trailer, NMS game and even Aliens Colonial Marines and what was given to consumers on release. So yes we were lied to bud and no amount of research should make that okay especially for consumers who are spending money on a product that was shown off from a dev in that state.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

@Gangsta_red

You claim there was a bait and switch but you show no evidence to prove such a claim. No Man's Sky is the perfect example of a game being used to get clicks instead reporting news related to the game. The day before the game's release only a couple of gaming news sites reported a tweet from Sean Murray effectively saying that No Man's Sky was not a multiplayer game. IGN and a couple of other sites were the only one's who reported that. Hours after that, "OMG Sean Murray lied. OMG OMG OMG." This is the very reason why I don't trust reviews or gaming news that features Clickbait headlines and no substance. Perhaps you should learn to rely on your own intellect instead of letting others shape and mold your opinion with video snipets taken out of context.

gangsta_red2811d ago

No evidence? The evidence is all the demos and gameplays Sean showed before release and all the interviews he did about what was in the game and then what was actually released to gamers. I am positive you have seen those videos so I don't even understand what evidence you are asking for.

"No Man's Sky was not a multiplayer game..."

A couple of days eh? Well before that though Sean was on video on multiple talk shows saying you could meet up with players even though it was a very slim chance. In one interview he even acknowledged and agreed that the game was a MMO.

"This is the very reason why I don't trust reviews..."

This is why I don't trust many gamers either. Their willingness to turn a blind eye and defend anything and everything even though proof is staring them right in the face.

"Perhaps you should learn to rely on your own intellect instead..."

Have I not? You are the only one constantly attacking reviews as if what they are saying isn't shared by many others who have the same opinion or experienced the same flaws they have. As if every negative review is "Clickbait" and yet the ones that gave it a 9 or 10 are perfectly fine by you and also not considered clickbait.
All because you disagree with reviews you want to sit here and try and discredit me by saying those reviews shaped my opinions as if I didn't play the game myself.

Maybe I should question if you actually played the game? The multiplayer part is the least of my gripes about the game.

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2811d ago (Edited 2811d ago )

@Gangsta_Red
So snipets of comments and footage from early stages of development are your key points. Okay then. Carry on and keep up the good fight by letting others shape and mold your opinions instead of doing your own research.

gangsta_red2811d ago

So waitaminute...multiple snippets of footage from comments made directly from his mouth are somehow not valid because they may have been made during early stages of developement? And yet a couple of days before release its then reported that all that information that was told to us throughout development now null and void...and everything is suppose to be a-ok?

Who exactly is being molded and led by a very short leash here?

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2811d ago

@gangsta_red

Have you actually played the game at all? Just curious.

This site refuses to put everything on one page.
Killzone 2 was the best killzone game, but the original trailer was so different from the final thing. Witcher 3 was severely downgraded but everyone wants to forget that. Destiny did not cost $500k.

Nivekki2812d ago

Even if The Witcher 3 was downgraded it's still one of the best games of all time. Stop being so salty about it. The overwhelming majority of people think you're wrong, just let it go.

sullynathan2812d ago (Edited 2812d ago )

It isn't one of the best games of all time. Stop deluding yourself. Stop hounding me on this site.

Master of Unlocking2812d ago

Why can't I see the article on my PC? It seems to be one of those slideshow-article with arrows to click, yet when I click on it I get nothing!?

XXXL2812d ago

Man I really want to play that earlier version of Bioshock infinite instead of the butchered one we received due to Ken Levine's "genius".

_-EDMIX-_2812d ago

buddy, I don't even think you know fully of what that version even entailed.

They joy of ignorance I guess.

The 10 PSVR 2 Games You Should Own

If you're looking for 'must have' PSVR 2 games then look no further. These are the 10 titles every PSVR 2 owner should have in their library.

If you're wanting more PSVR 2 support, you should probably buy all of these games.

Speak with your wallet!

Profchaos43d ago

Bit rich to have to buy games you don't want because you want Sony to support the expensive headset they sold us which cost as much as the console it runs on beyond paying third partys to support it.
Seriously in terms of first party we have horizon on day 1 and a gt 7 vr mode.

They seemingly have made little effort to support it beyond paying Capcom to make re games in VR or a second party studio to make firewall which was mismanaged.

I'm a day 1 psvr2 user and the only thing I'm excited for right now is PC support.

I commented recently this bespoke VR game development model we have right now clearly doesn't work

crazyCoconuts43d ago

On the one hand I feel like there's been plenty of smaller non-AAA games to play and occupy me as a supplement to my flat screen gaming.
But I agree that Sony has done nothing to elevate this beyond the niche it's in and into the mainstream where it would be economical to create AAA games for it.

Babadook743d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Most of these games are worth owning for most people; I own all but 2 of them in fact. So I agree with kevco33. I think you're crazy if you downplay this list quite frankly. Sony can't keep funding software if people don't buy any of it, the ball is squarely in OUR court.

Sony has spent a lot on 3rd party stuff this gen like RE.

phoenixwing43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

Saving up for the headset is my first hurdle. Let alone buying games I don't want lol

mudakoshaka43d ago

People downvoting you for not having enough finances...what a world we live in, haha

phoenixwing43d ago (Edited 43d ago )

@mudako
They feel affronted at the very thought that I don't plunk down 500 immediately lol I have a little over 900 games in my backlog I've been buying games instead of hardware ever since I got my PC and ps5. I just don't know if vr is really for me honestly. Every time I have a couple hundred allocated to video games it makes more sense to buy a bunch of flat games instead of vr ones

mudakoshaka43d ago

I have 9 out of these 10 games. I try to buy all the VR games I like to support the advancement of VR!

TheEroica42d ago (Edited 42d ago )

I spoke with my wallet after watching the first headset get weak support. Easy pass until Sony earns my money. Feel bad for those who parted with 500 bucks, falling for the hype that Sony was actually gonna support this thing.

Neonridr43d ago

I own 7 of these titles off the list, lol.

NotoriousWhiz43d ago

I'm trying to decide if it's worth holding onto my psvr 2. I enjoy what it has currently, but it seems unlikely to get anything else. Might be better off just waiting for something with more support if that ever comes.

Profchaos43d ago

As a fellow psvr2 owner the question seemingly comes down to do you own a PC.

I think I'm all in I have a habit to hold onto my systems anyhow I still have my psvr1 to hell I still have my NES.

But while it's still worth something yeah you could sell it and if Sony turns the ship around you should be able to buy another one for less than you soldmit for I feel like we won't see any fix for the headset for the next 2 years rumours show that Sony has no current first party VR games in active development after they closed London studios

The whole psvr2 situation has left me feeling a little burnt on PlayStation as a whole to be honest. The first psvr felt experimental but it was supported far more than this superior headset

MIDGETonSTILTS1743d ago

GT7 surprised me, because I hate racing games, but i poured 100 hours into it way too quickly.

I’m looking forward to the Metro VR game this year, and I hope that WW2 dogfighter game releases eventually.

talocaca43d ago

I have most of them 😅

Waiting for a sale on Synapse and Arizona Sunshine 2.....also Metro coming this year looks great.
