PlayStation VR Already Being Sold On Ebay For $1000

Ebay US already has listings up for PlayStation VR's which are selling out like crazy. The listing however are for as much as $1000!

Those sick bastards. Like it or not, there will be people with heaps of disposable income that will snap these up come launch time. It's a shame really. There should be laws against this kind of thing, like not being able to sell something over it's recommended retail price for a standard item, and that's not including special edition items. Or maybe only selling for no more than 10% over the retail value.

Especially come Christmas time, and kids will want the PlayStation VR. Poor parents.

I hope more stock comes in, even if it's not day 1 guaranteed but 2016 guaranteed at least.

yeah I guess it depends on if we see more stock sooner than later. I mean if this is it before Xmas, then prices will skyrocket, like the PS4 did.

As much as we may hate it, this should remain legal. It's a RECOMMENDED retail price for a reason. Everyone is free to sell stuff at whatever price they want.

If I want, I have the right to try and sell a peanut for a million dollars. That doesn't mean anyone will actually do it, but if it happens, the better for me.

That's a bit of a different scenario though. These trends are the worst in the live music sector...we have bots that jump online at the first moments of tickets going on sale & they buy out half the house & sell it back to us at an increasingly ridiculous price. There needs to be systems in place to keep this from happening imo. Ticketmaster & some of the others have been doing exactly that, I personally think retail should do the same. It is an unfair practice to consumers & to the companies themselves, and the only people it benefits are the greedy bastards willing to do these things.

I'd imagine it's a bit too soon for people to really start panicking about not being able to get one. As of right now, these shops that are getting pre-order allotment are probably just getting as few as possible, with Sony later going to give more allotment. That's how most things like this go down. The initial allotment might be quite small, but given that there are 7 months before release, it's too early to assume Sony is going to be in short supply.

These sellers are trying to take advantage of people who think that it will be out of stock.

Not to say it won't be in short supply later, but it's kind of premature to be panicking right now, particularly since I feel there will be a lot of prospectors with better scalping prices going forward.

Happens all the time, personally I can't comprehend paying 2x RRP for anything, guess some people have more money then sense.

Do people really go through with buying this? Ebay also always sides with the buy so what happens when a buyer doesnt pay the scalper?

A lot of times on preorders...particularly on Ebay, people don't go through with paying when the time comes.

Personally, I wouldn't pre-order anything on Ebay unless it came from a reputable seller who actually does preorders regularly.

If the prices are this high after launch, when the seller actually has the item in hand, then yes, people do pay these kinds of prices for new hardware. Happened with PS3, PS4, and Wii...and probably some others.

That doesn't make sense. In the end, someone who wanted it will buy them, albeit for more than msrp, but it will end up in a consumers hands. Scalpers aren't collectors, they're resellers. Blame the limited stock.
