It’s that time of the month again! That’s right, a fresh batch of PlayStation Plus games are just seven days away, so if you haven’t already done so make sure you pick up all of April’s goodies before they disappear.

Hohokum is one of my favorite indie games this gen. Same dev as Frobisher Says on Vita and (IMHO) best soundtrack (non-classical) of any game this gen. If you like the artists Tycho or Com Truis you'll love it cause the entire soundtrack is done by their record label Ghostly International.

It's one of those games where you are thrown in with zero explaination and you just mess around till you figure it out. Every "level" is different and the music gets remixed live while you play depending on your actions.

Ummm... Rayman Legends was released on ps+ last year. It's currently sitting in my PS+ folder on my Vita.

I only got burned for May PS+ by Unfinished Swan because I bought that one close to when it came out. You win some and you loose some...whatever.

Ether One is the most interesting out of the list to me (I love puzzle games). This is not a terrible lineup and most of the games are crossbuy meaning there's more than 2 games if you only own a PS3 [3 Games], PS4 [5 Games], or PSVita [4 Games].

I do recommend Unfinished Swan to the uninitiated though. For the most part it is a laid back relaxing game with a nice little story - a good change of pace to most of the faster paced games people usually play.

I didn't even know murasaki baby had released. I remember the announcement, remember being excited about it, then forgot about it. No AAA games this month, but definitely a stellar line up of indie games. Some great examples of what indies can do.

Last months Never Alone was such a very nice two player game. We love it. And our understanding and love for indie games grows even bigger.

I own a PS4 and Vita, and while getting "free" games each month (I use the word free loosely because as soon as I stop paying for my yearly subscription those games are gone and are not free anymore) is great and all, you can't automatically put these titles up on a pedestal claiming they are the best hidden games that nobody ever knew about.

Not everyone has the same taste as you, so grow up.

That is correct, no one is GIVING games away. As part of your paid Plus subscription, 5 games are available for download if you want them. None of them appeal to my personal taste this month. I'm not complaining either, but it is annoying when people say it's a great deal since it is completely dependent of a persons preference. If you like even half, it's a great month. If you like none, it's much less exciting.

I don't have a Xbox nor do I have XBL Gold. Don't care what Microsoft offers since, at this moment, I don't have any of their systems... well, got Windows on the PC if that counts. If I had XBL Gold, I would probably criticise their offerings.

At this moment, PS+ is crap compared to what it once was. PS+ is a renting service for out of date indie games.

It's amazing reading people complain about PS+, especially when they try and compare it to how it was for the PS3, complaining about the lack of AAA retail games and what not. It tells me one of two things: either they never had the service and are just talking out their asses, or they had the service and don't know what the hell they are talking about... Either way, just complaining for the sake of complaining.

PS+ released June 2010 (almost 4 years after the launch of PS3). PS+ did not release its first AAA game until December 2011 (approx. 17 months later). That game was Tomb Raider Underworld, which was already a 3 year old game. So please tell me, comparing PS+ (PS4 to PS3), what 3 year old AAA game would you like them to have released? You'd be hard-pressed to name one since the console has only been out 16 months.

It took about 2 years for PS+ to become the service that started releasing a steady flow of retail games (many AAA titles) on PS3. So for those that want to service to be like it was for PS3, how about you give it some time to develop into that service. How about you wait until there are enough AAA retail games on the market for it to be a viable option to release them for free.

PS+ for PS4 has been great, releasing great games (albeit indie, which are still games) since day one. People who expect Sony to release AAA games at this point are just being unreasonable (to say the least). It's ok to not like the games they release, but use some common sense when trying to make an argument.

I remember Sony "offering" PS3 AAA games that were less then a year old with their PS+ service. Ex: Sleeping Dogs, LittleBigPlanet Karting, XCOM: Enemy Unknown, Hitman: Absolution, GRID 2, etc.
Grant you that most of PS3 PS+ AAA games were about 15-20 months old, but there were quite a few games that were less then a year old.

I remember last gen Microsoft's Gold offerings being heavily criticized by Sony fanboys, because they were too old. AAA games 2/3/4 years old.

Perhaps you didn't read the part of my comment that said it took about 2 years for them to start releasing those types of games on a steady basis. The games you listed were released after the 2 year mark, which strengthens my point of being patient. By the time they were releasing AAA games, the game library for PS3 was huge. I'm not sure why people cannot understand that, and seem to always make comparisons without taking that into consideration.

I don't think the PS+ is crap next month. Those are mostly good games. If you want AAA releases, then yeah, it's crap to you, but that's not the same as the games are crap because you don't like them.

I will agree that the PS4's PS+ hasn't been as great as it was for the PS3 or Vita/PSP, but there have been some good games that have come out for it, and probably pay for the service should you care to get even 2-3 of those games. If you happen to own PS3, PS4, and Vita, then PS+ hasn't been crap ever.

It's also worth mentioning that the PS3 had a few years worth of AAA games to actually release by the time PS+ was actually introduced, and it did take about a year and a half for Vita games to start seeing bigger titles on PS+.

When the service was optional there was much more incentive to have games with higher demand. If you are into indie games then you are surely in heaven with Plus on the PS4. If indies don't excite you, more than likely you have been very disappointed so far.

It would be nice if we weren't required to pay for the game subscription service to play online. I get that Sony wants the money, but I would prefer they call a spade a spade and separate online gaming from the "free" game subscription service.

I could understand if you guys had the usual XB gamers's, logic of paying to play online , but its been made overtly clear on N4G that PS gamers generally buy PSN for the 'free' shit. They're not free if you're required to pay for a subscription t o get them, as well as maintaining it in order to keep what you have. PS+ was popular for the games, not the online service that PS4 players now must pay for to use.

But even if you argue that you are paying for these free games.. In recent months we got Killzone Mercenary and Oddworld New and Tasty. The value of just those two games alone more than pay for the service for a year. But there were several other PS+ games I enjoyed, so it probably paid for itself at least 2X over.

Is every month good? No

Does it really have to be? If you can't find enough games that enjoy through PS+ to pay for the service, then maybe the problem is you and your limited tastes in games.

Okay, but to most others it's the "free games" and to a lesser degree the other services. I bring this up since PlayStation Plus existed years before it was required for online and even then, it only affects people on the PlayStation 4. Anyone without a PS4 is just paying for the games, automatic downloads and cloud storage (more or less anyway). Sure some people do it for the latter, but odds are the vast majority of people pay the free for the former.

See, some people fail to realize that other people have different perceptions and these arguments simply don't work.

Like I already own Killzone Mercenary, so giving me it adds no value. Sure I can sell it, but then the digital versions size and Vita memory card prices come into play and blah blah blah. I also have no interest in Oddworld, so giving me that gives me no value either. Now I do happen to enjoy enough games to get my investment back, which I am sure is true for a lot of other people, but on average I get like 6 games I enjoy and didn't already own of the approximate 72 games offered in a year. Thats a ratio of <10%, which is fairly low all things considered, especially when I wouldn't be surprised if a good number of the people telling me my opinion didn't matter had enjoyment ratios in the 10%> range.

Or some people just so happen to buy a lot of the games offered and simply don't get much for that reason... I bought Muramasa, Dragon's Crown, Killzone Mercenary, Uncharted, WipEout 2048, Gravity Daze, Soul Sacrifice, Unit 13, Disgaea 3, Rayman Origins, Dokuro (imported at that!), Zero Escape, PS All-Stars, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Street Fighter X Tekken, Sly 4 and BlazBlue, which has to make up the vast majority of "great" Vita titles. The point being that, again, people have different perspectives and just because they don't like what is being offered doesn't mean they have terrible taste or only want AAA. Sometimes they just simply have the game, think it sucks or don't want a fighting game for the umpteenth time (though I like fighting games myself).

With Xbox Live, Microsoft has been very honest from day one. If you want to play online, you pay the subscription fee. Games with Gold was added at the end of the 360's life cycle. These games are actually "free" and were given to people already paying the online fee. Once you download them, they are yours to keep. With Xbox One these games stop working when you stop subscribing much like Plus.

Sony created an optional game subscription service with Plus. For $5 a month or $50 a year you could download and play a couple different games a month. If you seen value in this you could opt in. If you didn't see the value you could keep your cash. With the PS4 Sony changed it up and said if you want to play online you need to subscribe to the game rental service which really doesn't make sense. It's no secret I'm not a fan of the indie scene. For me, I pay $50 a year for games I don't want or download so I can play online. Instead of selling me the online service that is still technically free, I pay for the games I don't want. It's a kick in the balls for those of us that wouldn't buy the service for what it offers.

how is it a year ? its more like 18 or 19 months. we deserve at least one retail PS4 game once in a while. Japan has already had Killzone and are getting Trials Fusion this month. you people pretending to actually like and enjoy these indies make me sick because i doubt anyone buys the supposed "most powerful console" on their massive 50 inch TV to play mobile phone quality games. no one is asking for Bloodbourne or Destiny. something like a PS3 remaster like Metro Redux or Sleeping Dogs would be fine.

Pretty sure injustice was a retail release. First light, while DLC, was a full game in it's own right. Strider,resogun, Contrast, and valiant hearts I'd consider a mid-tier title, although never released in retail. Pixeljunk, Fez, Trine 2, OlliOlli2, and transistor are highly regarded as very good to great games.

Seems there is plenty of good content if people look beyond the idea that AAA is the only thing worth playing.

Since release, 42 games have been given out for the PS4 alone.

To say that all the value or possibility of enjoying the game doesn't add up to more than 2-3 AAA games in the same time is just being narrow-minded.

I'd love to see more AAA titles as well. But at the same time, I don't go around assuming the selection is crap because it doesn't happen to offer AAA games with the same frequency as it did on the PS3.

At least call it like it is. Say that you aren't into indies, and only play hyped up AAA games, and can't see past budget to judge quality, so PS+ on PS4 is crap TO YOU. Not that it is crap overall. Same goes to Shadowman above.

I don't think you could fill a very big room of people that bought the worlds most powerful game console so they could play games that wouldn't stress a system a couple generations old. Indies are cheap filler for Plus and Games with Gold. These aren't being released every month because they are good, they are released because they are cheap. If Sony offered 5 indies in May or a hyped up AAA which do you think more people would choose? I would honestly rather have Knack in May.

I get what you're saying, and I can understand where some people are coming from with their arguments. But, Sony never said that the games they released on PS+ would always be AAA, or that they would release 5 a month, or anything of that nature. The only parameter I know about is that they have to have a meta rating of at least 70.

My complaint isn't really that people don't like indie games for whatever reason, just that they automatically and instinctively apply the term crap to them and then go on to complain about the PS+ offerings just because the games don't appeal to them.

I do find the people that don't like indie game across the board to many times be people who are unwilling to try new things, and are likely the same type of people who complain about the lack of diversity in AAA gaming, yet then only buy rehashed sequels or well known IP's.

It's not hard to understand. How many people didn't consider the Wii to be current gen last gen? No matter how many Wii's were sold or how good the games were, they didn't count. How many still consider the WiiU to not count this gen since it only plays "kid games"? Indie games are real games, they aren't real console games though. Would you pay $60 for any indie title? Do you think indies are rated the same way as actual console releases or do you understand they have different expectations.

How many $60 games do you need to download a year to justify a $50 subscription fee? How many $5 games do you need to get the same results?

I thought we already got unfinished swan free on ps3. I'm confused. Maybe I picked it up on an awesome sale back in the day. Anyway, it's an amazing game. I would place it over some other big indie titles like Limbo and Transistor, but that's just my take on it. It innovates in so many ways and keeps introducing something new to grapple with as you progress. The story also offers a pretty amazing metanarrative despite coming across childish at times.

Indie yes...crappy...not so much. If you have PS+, why not just give them a chance? Spend 30-60 minutes on them. If you don't like them, complain. If you like them, enjoy them.

The fact that you associate indie with crappy means that you have very distinct tastes in gaming, and that you don't care to try new things. Given that, unless Sony actually did ask you what you wanted, then the chances are high, even if they did release a AAA game, it would not be something you'd enjoy.

What is the competition offering? Seems Indie games only matter on Xbox. This year Ori and Scream Ride are all the rage on XB 1 right? These games are not just fun, but critcally accalaimed. Would you rather shoot some mindless AI, while squadmates shout orders? There's room for both on the PlayStation platform. Variety, quality, fun and diverse games. Not to mention some of the amazing stories in these games. You talk about Indie like it's trash. I rather these games than some supposedly AAA games.

Am all thumbs up for Indies I was glued to Bloodborne , but then Axiom Verge came out and had me hooked..........then titan souls...........And then shovel knight ...

None of them games came to ps+ though and when the decent indies finally do people will have either bought them or wont be interested anymore. Sony either give crap indies when there new or decent ones when nobody wants them anymore. The only one they didnt do this with was resogun.

I can see why people who want AAA games are disappointed but it still kills GwG this month. 5 PS4 games compared to 1 XB1 game. This would have been an awesome month for me if I didn't own most of them. I love platformers yet I may be the only one who didn't like Guacamelee.

These games are crap! Each month is worst than the last one. Where are the big triple A titles??? It seems like every time I get Plus is when Plus gets lame. Its a conspiracy. Now I wish Knack was one of the free titles. So tired of these forgettable low quality Indie titles. I feel like I'm using Steam on PS4.

Its no wonder why Sony loves indies so much.. They are saving a fortune on ps+ releases. Really annoyed every month we get nothing but indies. It wouldn't be too bad but they pick the low end of indies or ones that they have already given away before (we have already had guacamelee and unfinished swan) not the decent ones.

None of these titles is low end indie. I'd imagine that Sony spends anywhere between 250-500K to the dev for each indie title they put up on PS+.

We could get one AAA game which they probably spend a cool million on...unless there is some incentive for the pub to sell DLC or something, and then it's 50/50 whether or not you'd already have that game, or if it would be a good AAA title, because there have been plenty of crap AAA titles put up on PS+ over the years.

I'm sorry, but these games suck. And so has PS+ for a while. Call it what it is - Nothing more than a service fee for PS4's online portion, with some "bonuses" thrown on to keep people happy that they're not entirely paying for the privilege to play multiplayer.

The Unfinished Swan it's a great game, a classic just like Journey, really recommend it.
Ether One looks interesting, also Hohokum.

I only got PS+ because it is now a bullshit requirement for online play on PS4. Not only are we now being charged for it, but it has gone down twice since I got the console and I really do not see the alleged 'premium' side- same lag, same crashing servers. But I went along with it since I was going to get some 'free' games too.

Some indie games have novel ideas that become lame about 15 minutes into the game and that is the reason why people don't buy them at retail price. Case in point, Tower of Guns seemed like a good fit for me until I played it. My first reaction was 'this is it? no story, no tutorial? clunky controls? why would I pay for this?'. I think, on average, I like 1 out of every 8 PS+ freebies. Would that still be a good deal, specially since the membership is cross-console? Yes, but it takes away CHOICE. You are being charged for games you might or not like and that is what pisses most people off. If Netflix charged you an extra $50 a year and gave you some 'free premium movies' that changed randomly every month, most people wouldn't be saying they got a great deal.

None of the free games this month look particularly appealing to me, but I guess I'll try them anyway.

Most of the best movies may be indies (I highly doubt this claim), but the movies people actually pay to see are the big budget ones. Furious 7 might not be considered high art like some of the indie flicks, but it is very entertaining and ticket sales are through the roof.

Most people do not have a current gen console to play games they played in arcades years ago, or mobile phone games and things like that.
I've tried every free game and the majority have really sucked with the exception to Dead Nation, Outlast, Octodad and maybe a few others.

And those games are already worth your annual subscription, but you are right, most games sucks, just like everything else.

There is one universal truth in entertainment. Books, music, TV shows, movies, games, indies or blockbusters, you have about 15% that are worth a try, 10% that are worth finishing and about 5% that are truly great. The rest is garbage. Take a look at iTune, Rottentomatoes or PSN. There is just more indie games, so that makes a lot of theme that are great, but it still just 5%.

The problem with PS+ "indie" games is they're mostly crap indie games and it's giving the real indie games a bad name. For example Wasteland 2 is an indie that was funded by Kickstarter and it's coming to the PS4 as retail. Those are the kinds of indie I'm interested in. Not this flood of monthly casual garbage.

I remember the PS3 got two AAA games each months. Sony is definately changing PS+ and not for the better.

I do like indie games but now I'm beginning to think Sony is pushing indie titles as PS+ filler out of financial reasons. Not so much for the gamers, more for their own wallets.

everyone here on n4g is 60% in favor of being a good month for plus. But the like/dislike ratio of the video is clearly one sided. LOL
