The Witcher 3 Devs Working to Make Modding Tools Accessible;Want to Give as Much Freedom as Possible

The REDKit for The Witcher 2 allowed quite a few users to create some really great mods, but it wasn't really as widely used as, for instance, Skyrim's modding tools. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will have its own tools, and Visual Effects Artist José Teixeira explained what CD Projekt RED is doing with it.

I think one of the problems with Witcher 2 mods wasn't just accessibility, but also that not a lot of them is compatible with eachother. If they can solve the compatibility issue as well, then i'm sure we'll see more people making them.

ArchangelMike3309d ago

I would love to see this game get the same kind of Mod support GTA and Skyrim have had over the years. It seems that CDPR recognise how this gives longevity to a game on PC. Just a shame I can't afford a PC that will be able to run The Witcher 3... I'll just have to make do with the 'just as awesome next best thing' - the PS4 version :)

reynod3309d ago

"I can't afford a PC"

Please that excuse is lame and doesnt fit, PC being expensive was true back in the early 2000's when games actually had major graphical leaps every 1-2 years. Games now cater to the lowest denominator consoles. Hence dont progress much over a decade. If games dont progress PC doesnt need constant upgrades either like it did previously.

With all the nickle diming and hidden costs consoles come with, consoles are now easily more expensive than gaming on PC. Infact you might as well jump to PC gaming if cost is an issue.

@reynod
Are you suggesting that I spend money on a "lowest common denominator" PC just so I can play The Witcher 3 on PC. That's the dumbest thing I've heard in a long time.

If I'm going to spend money on a gaming PC for The Witcher 3, I'm going to buy a PC that can run the game on max settings. Can you point me to such a PC that cost LESS than a PS4?!

starchild3309d ago

Hey, man, enjoy the game on whatever you got. I'm sure it will be a fantastic experience on all three platforms.

Sir_Simba3309d ago

These devs deserve all the support they can get, they should be the example devs should follow.

reynod3309d ago

"they should be the example devs should follow."

We could hope for such an out come, however CDProject is still new to the console gold rush where developers sell content as DLC already present on Disk or the fact they purposely dont give consoles mod capability so the games get old and make way for the next release.

Quite different from the classic PC gaming way, where gamers are given full mod capability. We never had silly DLCs such as Weapons skins, maps, costumes etc.

In fact CDproject is one developer who gave PC gamers a free remake of the Witcher 1 game, literally 1 year after release all for free.

Which is why it will be sad to see this sort of developer to scumb to the current console way, where developers nickle dimm on just about everything.

Conzul3309d ago

I think you were trying to spell "succumb", but you tripped over your Master Race keyboard.

Troll harder.

Seafort3309d ago (Edited 3309d ago )

They patched Witcher 1 and 2 to Enhanced Edition for free on PC so it will be quite interesting to see if they do that again for consoles as well as PC this time around.

Either way CDProjekt RED are brilliant developers who are well worth supporting for Witcher 3 and their future games like Cyberpunk 2077.

Roll on May 19th :)

@Conzul
Nothing to do with Master Race this is how developers should treat their customers and not treat them like human piggie banks all the time.

I guess you're so used to it on consoles you don't know how you should be treated. So sad.

decrypt3309d ago

@conzul

Some of us actually dont have english as our first language. I like to see you write a sentence in another language. I made my point, its hardly trolling. You can deny it all you like but that would just be deaf, dumb and blind of you denying the current status of console gaming.

@Seafort

CD Project are amazing, i hardly preorder games these days. However Witcher 3 was preorder day 1. I hope they stick to their traditions, and dont follow the way of the other developers who forgot their roots.

ONESHOTV23309d ago

i'm sorry man but those next-gen consoles don't support mods they never will.

They'd better put these efforts into Xbox One version, which is the worst.

The 7 Best Western RPGs: Immersive Adventures

RPGs are often huge, sprawling endeavours. With limited playtime, we have to choose wisely, so here's the best western RPGs available today.

SimpleSlave28d ago

"I started playing games yesterday" the List... Meh!

How about a few RPGs that deserve some love instead?
1 - Alpha Protocol - Now on GOG
2 - else Heart.Break()
3 - Shadowrun Trilogy
4 - Wasteland 2
5 - UnderRail
6 - Tyranny
7 - Torment: Tides of Numenera

And for a bonus game that flew under the radar:
8 - Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden

DustMan28d ago

Loved Alpha Protocol in all it's glorious jank. Great game.

SimpleSlave28d ago (Edited 28d ago )

Not only glorious jank, but the idea that the story can completely change depending on what you do, or say, or side with, makes it one of the most forward thinking games ever. The amount of story permutation is the equivalent of a Hitman level but in Story Form. And it wasn't just that the story changed, no, it was that you met completely new characters, or missed them, depending on your choices. Made Mass Effect feel static in comparison.

Alpha Protocol was absolutely glorious, indeed. And it was, and still is, more Next Gen than most anything out there these days. In this regard at least.

Pity.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name52d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno52d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood52d ago (Edited 52d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno52d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure51d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
