Alphas, Betas, Early Access feel more personal and make the potential customer feel special and an important part of the development process, hence they are more likely to spend their valuable time and money into the game. It is just an evolution of the gaming industry and PC is as usual leading that change.
We also used to get expansion packs.
Demo's are dead, which is a shame, I'm a big fan of try before you buy. When I downloaded PT on PS4 there was a total of 6 demos or something, nearly a year after the consoles release.
Luckily I have pirate bay for PC demos.
The good old Demo is still very much alive, so i don't think we've moved on too much.
What ever happened to shareware? They should bring that back!
