In no way is the Xbox 'failing hard'. This new console generation is STILL in its baby stages for all consoles. The amazing game archive that these consoles will flourish under have yet to hit stores. Not to mention only recently devs are able to tap into the apparent 10% extra power for Xbox games. Which will, mind you, close that resolution/fps gap between the PS an Xb to nothing, shattering the large difference most PS fans boast thoroughly about.

Total domination huh? I've seen more excitement around people interested in buying a Xbox One for Forza Horizon 2, not Halo collection. I think the MCC will appeal more to current Xbox One owners...the loyal fans of Microsoft.

Planetside 2 still to come, Call of Duty Advance Warfare...CoD still has a huge fan base, probably much bigger than Halo I'm sure. Then we have Battlefield Hardline...and let's not forget Destiny and Evolve.

Halo remastered goodies...have some serious competition later this year. It will increase some sales that month, but not enough to dominate.

Should Sony be concerned?

In the US, or North America maybe, but otherwise no. In it's first month the boost was around 40k units over April's NPD (115k vs rumored 155k) which would translate into 8k - 10k extra units per week (June was technically 5 weeks which is why I have 8k - 10k). The reason I used April was because it was the last neutral month of sales the XBO had.

The boost was enough to allow the XBO to sale equally to the PS4, or insignificantly less or more for the last couple of weeks of June. So for US/NA market share the boost helped, but then you look at the other markets and the PS4 is still winning by a good margin even after the boost there.

And Xbox one is not a failure. It's not selling as well as the fastest selling system ever. But it's still selling fantastically for a brand new and expensive piece of tech. Over 5 million sales of something that has until last month had an MRSP of $500 in only 13 countries (sure they may be their biggest markets) in 6 months is fantastic, it just happens to be that the PS4 is selling at record breaking paces. Doubling the previous month's sales doesn't mean much since it was the lowest month yet, presumably due to the incoming lower price. Throwing that low month out and comparing June to April will tell a more realistic story. Estimating from May's numbers, the June sales bump won't amount to much at all, especially considering the fact that it's 5 weeks of data.

XB1 sales only doubled???... wow, it should have at least quadrupled or more in sales since the kinectless version was basically a new first start for the console (and even had backed up pre-orders to further boost/concentrate sales numbers).

Plus the sales of May completely dried up in anticipation. Although now that I think about it, it really didn't double, since the sales from May just moved to June. Dang... it is even worse when you look at it that way. And EVEN worse if the sales were only double that of May (which was REALLY low).

XB2 confirmed in a year if MS's history with releasing new operating systems (usually within a year or two) when the previous release was a failure. And if they don't, then Sony has absolutely nothing to worry about if a $100 cheaper XB1 releases and only gets double the sales (which most came from people holding off the previous month... so it's even less impressive of a figure).

That's not the point man. Look outside the box as a company would. If the sales in May were low, it shows that the consumer base wasn't buying into the console, especially at that price range. At the price cut, it doubled those numbers. What that shows is the price cut had a positive influence on the market and consumers are now expressing the price range is more comfortable for them. May sales were poor and MS was able to change those numbers.

Let's put the sheep entrails down for a second and give it a little bit more time. I have no idea if any of you even got that... Either way, it's too early to tell.

We need official numbers over the next 3 months to really tell us where the war is heading. It SEEMS as though the XBone price cut somewhat helped Microsoft, especially in the US, but no one is sure if a small increase in sales lasts, or if it affects the #PS4 in any negative way.

But it would be irrelevant if XBone had a minor sales increase in the US, if at the same time #PS4 continues to match and/or lead the XBone in the US, and obviously lead worldwide.

The reality is that IF the Microsoft price cut FAILS to stimulate sales -- at this point it becomes obvious that Sony has it more than likely wrapped up in terms of market share dominance this gen. #PS4 leads the market, and Microsoft -- I'm guessing -- cannot release enough first-party software to somehow usurp Sony as king of first parties. Yes, Sony, not Nintendo. Sony had more success with their first-party, original IPs last generation than Nitnendo. Sony is the king of first party at this point.

Microsoft, obviously, is a bit sloppy when it comes to exclusive releases, and their dev teams, at this point, simply cannot match Sony's.

That argument is pure fanboy wishful thinking considering the Xbox 360 has sold over 84 million systems to date which proves that there is worldwide demand for Xbox. Also that way of thinking doesn't take into consideration the millions who already own a PS4 that will eventually buy an X1. Look at all the people who bought a PS3 that already had a 360 (myself included) those sales were huge and definitely contributed to the PS3's overall success.

Fact is Sony doesn't have all the games anymore and it's been that way ever since the beginning of last gen; though some are too thick headed to see it. The 360 had a whole year head start and accumulated a lot of third party exclusives in that time period, many of which never seen the light of day on the PS3. This gives the 360 the obvious edge in overall exclusives and a larger library of games. Sony does have more first party exclusives but so what! That means nothing.

The way I see it MS wasn't doing a very good job in the past with creating their own platform defining exclusives; instead relying mostly on third party exclusive deals and DLC. However all that has changed under Phil Spencer, MS has invested $1 billion into games and they seem very enthusiastic about big budget exclusives this time around. Sony should take notice and lay off all the indie love for a while.

I feel that MS are in a far better position this time around than they've ever been. They've been humbled by their past mistakes and have made necessary changes as well as improvements to the X1 and their strategy. I feel that for the first time they are laser focused on games and nothing but! With that said, they have some great exclusives coming up along with some very much needed new IP's and they still have the best overall online service whether some want to be honest about it or not.

The X1 has some serious potential and I think that it's foolish to think otherwise.

How many times does this arguement have to be debunked before you fanboys stop using it?! No, those 60+ countries, historically, make up less than 15% of the Xbox's brand market share.

Microsoft made a very smart business decision to ignore those markets for the first 9 months in order to flood the markets that they have historically dominated (North America and the UK) and try to put up a better fight in the markets that Sony has historically dominated (the rest of Europe).

It didn't work, not because the stragety wasn't sound, but because they put their collective foot inn their collective mouths, then Sony came along and kicked them in the nads a couple times for good measure, and Viola, the XboxOne is barely beating the WiiU while the PS4 dominates.

Launching the console in those markets will provide at most, around 15% to 20% boost over the lifetime of the console, and mind you that is being extremely generous, since they are markets that have been dominated by Sony and the Playstation brand every single generation, and I highly doubt that will change with this one.

Out of those 84 million units worldwide for the X360, the USA and the rest of north America account for well over 50 million of those units (before you respond notice that I said teh USA and the rest of North America, I'm well aware that the US only accounts for 44.5 million), and Europe, (you know the other 10 Territories where the Xbox One is available) accounts for over 25.0 million units of those 84.

So common sense and a very basic level of math tells us the in the 13 territories that the Xbox one is currently being sold, they accounted for over 75 Million units of the X360's grand total of 84 million. Applying some more basic math skills will tell us that those 13 territories represent, close to 90% (88% to be exact) of their potential consumer base.

So, no, those extra territories will do next to nothing to help Microsoft close the gap.

good question... i own a ps4 and planning one day to get a X1 but as of right now, there really isnt that much of a reason to own either console. Titanfall is decent but the 1st person shooter genre is getting a bit boring (Destiny However looks nice).

Ill get GTA5 probably on X1 specifically with multiplayer in mind. Xbox Live surprisingly still outshines ps+. But both systems will have a strong lineup fall 2014 thru 2015/2016 so things will be looking up

whether or not the Xbox One "beats" the PS4 this month is irrelevant.. what really matters is that sales figures like these will put both consoles on a more even playing field instead of the PS4 having such a clear advantage.. i mean, obviously the $100 price difference was a huge factor and couple that with a very nice line-up of exclusive titles for this fall that cant be played on PS4 (Forza Horizon 2, Sunset Overdrive, Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Ori and the Blind Forest, Project Spark, and others), the momentum for the console is only going to continue..

is the Xbox One going to be outselling the PS4 anytime soon?.. probably not.. but the playing field is on track to become way more competitive from here on out since both consoles can be bought for the same price of $399..

Sony doesn't have anything to worry about at the moment.. But as more and more Xbox One games reach 1080p parity on multiplatform games, the Xbox One continues to get steady and monthly updates to the system in comparison to the PS4, the Xbox One continues to have a large influx of apps coming to the system than the PS4 (36 new apps coming to the XBO this year), the Kinect (yes, the Kinect) starts to eventually show its potential as excellent add-on and bundle (the PS4 camera is performing much better than expected and it doesn't come close to the Kinect 2.0 in terms of overall functionality), if DirectX12 and the cloud actually turn out to be more than PR hype, and other factors such as the ecosystem advantage of shared universal apps and mindshare with Windows PC and Windows Phone for example, then Sony is definitely going to have some serious long term concerns now that they have lost the price advantage..

bottomline: the price is now the same, visual parity in mulitplats is becoming more frequent, the PR damage is being mended and corrected by the universally respected Phil Spenser, and "better exclusives" is typically subjective and boils down to personal preference so lets not fall back on the "b bu but the Sony first party!!1!" debate.. basically, if you think that Sony is going to be able to phone this gen in based purely on their early success, you are sadly mistaken..

The PS4 Destiny bundle alone allows for Sony to not be worried. That bundle through the holidays will easily push a good few million PS4s, especially if the game sells like hotcakes and gets a good amount of praise from critics. If Sony could somehow secure a CoD bundle as well, it's done. No amount of price drops or Halo titles can put the XBone above the PS4 this holiday season.

why would sony be concerned? the xbox one had to have a price drop, not even a year into its life, and still got outsold that month by a substantial margin. the PS4 outsells it by around 40K every week and widens the gap between them.

Sony should probably start worrying if Microsoft manages to close the gap if they manage to catch up within a year or so. However, it will probably take longer and both companies will not be sitting idle unless they are stupid.

Microsoft doing better doesn't mean Sony is doing worse. If anything Microsoft doing better is better for the industry because it will push Sony to put out more games. Just look at what happened with Intel and AMD, Intel owns the high performance market and they slowed down their innovation significantly because of it.

I don't know how many gamers think like I do, but I find this $399 sku a little ... Off. I mean, if memory serves, I recall it being mentioned that kinect cost them $150 per console, and from a pure manufacturing cost perspective, they were only making around $20 per console.
So it stands to reason that while basic math dictates the new sku should cost $350, I'm savvy enough to understand there's more to it than that, but still, $400 seems steep. That is unless they plan on selling kinect2 for $100 and take a loss, making the X1 recoup some of that lost cash.

You can't trust stories like the Xbone selling twice as much in a month. Twice as much of what? The previous moth? Maybe it sold 25,000 the previous month and 50,000 in June. Big deal. When the numbers are nothing special they don't give real numbers, they say sales doubled.
