In Destiny You Won’t Be Able to Name Your Guardian Without Changing Your PSN Name or Xbox Gamertag

If you don’t think your PSN username or Xbox gamertag are very appropriate to be used as the name of your Destiny guardian, you may be out of luck.

Not to bothering since us console players are pratically use to having our in-game character named after our psn id.

BiggCMan1360d ago

That, plus this actually is better in my opinion. Instead of naming a character, playing with a bunch of other people who have these names characters where you then have to ask/search for the PSN/Gtag.

Everyone is simply named their PSN/Gtag already and you can visit their profile. Works better that way, and I always hate trying to think up a name for my characters in games.

I usually use default names if they are there, since Chris doesn't really fit most fantasy games lmfao.

crxss1360d ago

I've had my PSN tag since day one of getting a ps3. Kinda want to change it but I can't without losing all the trophies I've gained in the past. And ps plus doesn't transfer does it?

cemelc1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

jaja same boat, i always use the same name in games.

I think theres a way to tranfer your stuff in the webpage, but dont quote me on it, i saw it a long time ago.

"In Destiny You Won’t Be Able to Name Your Guardian Without Changing Your PSN Name or Xbox Gamertag"

So basically like every other game we've played in the last 10 years....

Nothing to see here folks!

SmielmaN1360d ago

Yup, SmielmaN is a PS3 launch original. I don't mind my game characters having it.

assdan1360d ago

Yeah, I don't know why you'd want it to display your in game name. You're gamertag/psnID is far more convenient.

joab7771359d ago

I am used to being called by my psn id almost as much as my real name.

But, I wouldnt mind other visible titles to bearded or clan tags etc.

LordMaim1358d ago

@BattleAxe: Since the author seems to be laboring under the misconception that Destiny is an MMO, they think this might irk some people. Why wouldn't it be "appropriate" for PSN / Xbox Live IDs to be used in the exact same way that they've been used for every other console game with an online component ever?

Frankly, I just want to shoot some stuff.

I dont mind , i just find it hilarious thinking about those that couldnt bother with thinking out a nice name , and went "bigboi9451446"

creeping judas1360d ago

Which means there was 9451445 bigboi's before them!!

fenome1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

Just gives some people something else to complain about I guess. I don't understand why so many people are so nit-picky about EVERYTHING now.

'Oh, wait, the day/night cycles aren't in realtime and they aren't going to send me cake on my birthday?! Preorder cancelled!! Now I have to go on a tangent on why this game sucks, and is going to be the downfall of the Industry as a whole.'

It's pathetic

I'm not talking about this article in particular, I'm just saying it in general. Watch, in the next 24 hours there's going to be an article about the lack of options in games and this going to come up, even though the game consists of nothing but options.

Tetsujin1359d ago (Edited 1359d ago )

Anymore the person with the loudest voice usually speaks the most - and sometimes get "exactly" what they asked for (which goes for that be careful what you wish for statement).

I agree 100% with people complaining about nothing important; the majority of the time I find a lot of it either satire or professional trolling. It's one thing if they posted "you can't change the name of your character" as a heads up kind of story as opposed to "Why can't I name my own character in X game, this is why the industry is failing" followed by a bunch of whining and venting over nothing.

If naming characters is now "the new thing" to complain about, there's no telling what other BS someone will cry about. I can see it now, "Why the industry is failing #1342345 - I found a game I like that's free however my complaint is it's too fun" followed by 4-5 paragraphs of why companies need to make games that aren't fun to play because people will get sucked into them.

liquidhalos1359d ago

I always use the same name for gaming, psn, Xbox, steam and mmos

matrixman921360d ago fine with Dr Scruffleton

SpinalRemains1381360d ago

Sooooo...........if you keep your current account, your character will be named with it.

Oh No!

kingPoS1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

Well... it is an mmo without a monthly fee after all.

Of the top of my head, only MGS online let change your name. There maybe some others, but I likely haven't played them before.

Runescape did/does? Lol

MysticStrummer1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

OT - Not a big deal, though I do enjoy coming up with names that are appropriate for the setting, even if they're joke names… like my female Demon Hunter in Diablo 3 whose name is Legsenas, or my pawn in Dragon's Dogma whose name is Scrotos.

kingPoS1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

Like I said... the games with self created id's, I most likely haven't played them yet. MY backlog is killer. I still haven't even gotten around to Dragons Dogma, and ever since Batman Arkham City and a bunch of other games dropped on PS+, I forgot it was even on my HDD. lol

I enjoyed the hell out of Dragon's Dogma. I played through the story multiple times. Hope to hear of a sequel before too long.

joab7771359d ago

Many mmos make u choose a name. But its wierd b/c I am so used to my psn id.

creeping judas1360d ago (Edited 1360d ago )

Never bothered me. I've been Creeping Judas, across all platforms, for the last three generations of game consoles and a couple of PC multiplayer games before that. Don't think I will ever change or want to change.

Sorry, I lied, never had a gamertag on the Wii, or the WiiU.

SmoothC9111360d ago

Same here; my online ID has been SmoothC911 for most everything

fenome1360d ago

fenome has always been my alias, so that's fine with me.

I hate it when I try to register a username and they say it's already taken, so I have to throw a 1 on the end. I've been using this name for over a decade, and seriously who else spells phenom like this?! Lmao
