Wow, that must be a large percentage of digital sales. These are insane numbers for such a small userbase.

Edit: did they seriously bring up the iQue? I barely even remember that thing.

Moonman3592d ago

Yep, very awesome. Might take the crown for Wii U's best selling game by the end of this summer. :)

NewMonday3592d ago

sold more than Titanfall

sold more systems than Titanfall

MeliMel3591d ago

@new monday,

Titanfall? Are you seriously comparing MK8 to Titanfall selling power? I mean MK8 is only one of the greatest franchises ever. Nice of you to point out that its selling better and moving more systems than TF which is BTW a new IP and only online. And only a fanboy would write that comment. Im pretty sure ill get alot of disagrees you seem to be very popular with all those bubbles. And your an obvious Xbox hater after I read some of your comments.

Btw, to all other gamers. Has this site always been Xbox Haterville or what? I mean this site very pro Playstation. Kind of sucks when you read some of the BS comments gamers(supposedly) leave on these threads. I like the site so it seems im just gonna have to get used to it.

Realplaya3591d ago

@MeliMel so now your playing the it's a new IP game. Everyone criticizes Nintendo for not creating new IP's but now you see why they don't.

bouzebbal3591d ago

@NewMonday:
why are you bringing Titanfall into this?
Mario games have a better selling power than a COD with robots.

2 million Mario Kart sold under a month? i think we can congratulate Nintendo for it and i hope they keep releasing quality titles.

MightyNoX3591d ago

@Moonman: Yep, the series' got a lot of staying power. Deserves it, the game is barrels of fun.

@Melliman: You don't know that, he could be just hating on EA. :P
Or are you one of those peeps who think Titanfall is a Microsoft 1st part developed game?

@abdzine: I think it was because Microsoft paid Polygon to say 'Mario Kart 8 won't outsell Titanfall LTD' so people, and rightly so, are having fun pointing out that a fun game is outselling a soulless by-the-numbers shooter.

bouzebbal3591d ago

@MightyNoX:

indeed! MK just threw a blue shell at Titanfall followed by a red turtle.

thehobbyist3591d ago

@MeliMel
No, this website used to be the X360's bitch. It used to be 360 or death.

Ive a feeling X1 might never pass WiiU sales.
Its gonna be really funny in the end when financially struggling companies like Sony and Nintendo beat the rich MS.

Dehnus3591d ago

NIntendo isn't financially struggling. They are in the same boat as Microsoft. Shareholders trying to push for things the company itself doesn't want.

D-riders3591d ago

The Xbox one and wiiu user bases are pretty comparible. It's not amazing that they sold 2 million . It's amazing it's not 4 million yet. But I'll bet getting one soon to add to the numbers

punctualdork3591d ago

The Wii U has about 6 million units sold. 2 million on a AAA game isn't unreasonable.

Concertoine3591d ago

2 million on a AAA game in less than a month while still retaining a top position in sales is an uncommon occurence.

The closest next gen comparison is Watch_Dogs on PS4 which has sold around the same on a userbase that's about 2 million bigger.

Metallox3592d ago (Edited 3592d ago )

Holy cow, that's fast. Around a third part of Wii U owners have the game, and I'm not one of them yet xD

EDIT: It seems that sales are shipped+digital, and those numbers aren't really confirmed yet. Still, it would be very good.

LightDiego3592d ago

I'm really help for Mario Kart 8, this game is awesome, can't stop playing it.

wonderfulmonkeyman3592d ago

I think it's fair to say that this year's E3 has literally saved Iwata's ass as far as the shareholders and their voting is concerned.XD

Concertoine3592d ago

Gotta love that one guy asking Nintendo themselves how e3 went... who invests in a company and doesnt note the outcome of one of the biggest shows of the year.

I mean i know theyre in Japan but still.

FarEastOrient3591d ago (Edited 3591d ago )

It doesn't seem like that anyone read the questions in detail. The shareholders are not happy with the situation for both devices. Even though the company has a cash reserve the stock price / market value us no where near the 2008 value. Also the fact that some of the company officers have fewer shares (investment) in the company than some of the members in the audience.

Dunban673591d ago

I was very surprised how few shares some of the board members owned- very surprising but maybe that is more common among publicly traded co s in Japan

fonger083591d ago

Maybe (hopefully), if they miss another estimated sold amount for a fiscal year, I can almost guarantee they'll move in a different direction. Their board is diffinitely on edge right now, and want/need signs of profits to come in soon.

wonderfulmonkeyman3591d ago

It's official, he's the president again.
I guess the upswing in wii u sales after E3, and Mario kart, were enough to convince people he still knows what he's doing.

fonger083591d ago

The guy knows how to make money, and bottomline, that's what its all about.

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

gold_drake14d ago

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

The Next Mario Kart Desperately Needs A Good Gimmick

Mario Kart 8 has been out for nine years now if you include the Wii U version. Despite the Switch port continuing to sell insane numbers since it came out in 2017, many people believed that a new installment was way past due. When the Booster Course Pass was announced instead, it was a bit controversial, with one side of people stating that it was time for a new game, and the other side believing that this was the best course of action and that there's nothing else Nintendo can do to innovate the franchise.

There's nothing wrong with the games, but after most of them being very samey, I got a bit bored. I liked MKDS because it added a mission mode, yeah it didn't have maybe as many as I'd like but it was decent for variety.

I really prefer the new Mario Party for the different types of games in it.

Mario Kart doesn't really feel fresh because you know what to expect for every new game pretty much. The single player mode of DKR was far more in depth a game vs Mario Kart IMO, MK is probably better for multiplayer though.

-Foxtrot312d ago

It needs a campaign mode like Crash Team Racing with open hubs, driving around the Mushroom Kingdom, selecting your races and the like. Have a system like the CTR tokens within the races that then unlock secret racing cups later on or the time relics to unlock other things.

There's nothing wrong with the games but when you've had the same set up for so many games it just gets a bit samey after a while.

They could even have something like a track creator like Modnation Racers or something.

Neonridr312d ago

I always enjoyed the single player aspect of Diddy Kong Racing myself.

Knushwood Butt312d ago

After starting with the first game on SNES, I think the last one I bought was on the DS.

Phlacky311d ago (Edited 311d ago )

I think the next gimmick should be interactive tracks with obstacles and traps such as maybe throwing a shell ahead to make something fall on another player Also have water and mud parts that effect handling more also fire parts that can cause you to over heat if you stay in it to long etc...

Yi-Long311d ago (Edited 311d ago )

I don’t think it needs ‘a gimmick’ so much, because gameplay is pretty much perfect right now, but I would like the next Mario Kart to do either a ‘track-builder’ thing, so you just get access to the tools and make your own tracks (think Modnation Racers or LBP Karting), and/or expand upon ‘Mario’ Kart and open it up to the rest of Nintendo IPs, and just do a ‘Nintendo Kart’, so we’d see more of Zelda, but also Starfox, Kirby, Metroid, Valkyria Chronicles*, etc.

* I know, technically not ‘Nintendo’.
