Ok so DOOM could be the: "Series of Massive Significance" to be Finally Confirmed Next Month for Sony's New console? OPM cover?

4logpc3719d ago

I was thinking of the same thing, but I feel like they are talking about Crash that has been rumored for awhile now.

TWB3719d ago

After reading this though DOOM makes much more sense.

Last words about crash from activision were "crash license isnt going anywhere". Ofcourse they could have said that just because the deal was still open....

4logpc3719d ago

Howard said their new game isnt coming for awhile. Including the reveal.

MONOLITHICIDE3719d ago

@4logpc
shit, thanks for ruining my life

Muffins12233719d ago

Wow that sucks...i was hoping for a fallout in 2015.

WeAreLegion3719d ago

If it is, I'll be pissed. It's already assumed that DOOM 4 will be on PC/PS4/XBO. Don't hype us up for a game that was already going to be multi-plat.

LAWSON723719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

I dont understand this tactic, how are you supposed to introduce players to your new game when the demo is exclusive to preorders. Maybe it is early access?
I guess it is better than having stupid bonus content

sAVAge_bEaST3719d ago

most like;y an early access,,.. they always are. (by like 3 days)

Palitera3719d ago

Or they're scared with people don't giving a shift about their generic pretty shooter (New Order).

sorane3719d ago

"The genre coalesced with 1992's Wolfenstein 3D, which has been credited with creating the genre proper and the basic archetype upon which subsequent titles were based."

Not sure how you can be generic when you're the original. In fact Wolfenstein is the reason other fps games are called generic.

Palitera3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

So this is not the first Wolfenstein? Mindblown! /irony

Have you ever heard about Catacomb 3D?

Anyway, being the so called first template of the FPS genre is an excuse to completely avoid evolution? It seems to do what FPSs are doing for two decades and absolutely nothing more.

"The problems with it... well, they seem like problems that a lot of games share. It basically looks – from this very brief slice of the game – like a lack of imagination. "

"At the end of the day, Wolfenstein: The New Order looks like it will be yet another shooter on the pile of FPSes that we have gotten in gaming lately. The nostalgia factor may garner a large audience for this title, but I failed to see anything about it during both my hands off and hands on previews that would set it above the rest. That’s not to say that Wolfenstein will be a bad game. It’s just treading on the ground of ‘first person generic’ and adding Nazis back in the mix."

"Perhaps I'm faulting The New Order too much, as I was hoping it'd offer something more unique over just yet another tried-and-true FPS. "

Kleptic3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

^it hardly works like that...

just because a game 'franchise' introduces a genre to the market; doesn't automatically make every game in said franchise a masterpiece of innovation...The last wolfenstein was 100% forgettable...

Ironically, though...in my opinion return to castle wolfenstein was the last great title iD released...and that was in 2001...and its innovation at the time was WWII-era class based multiplayer, which ushered in medal of honor and call of duty soon after...

and Doom fell victim to its own weight just the same...the originals invented deathmatch...Doom 3 was a crappy attempt at action survival horror with laughably bad mechanics...and completely threw out ALL aspects of the originals that made them so great...

so just because they are pedigree franchises...doesn't mean anything by today's standards...new order doesn't look unique in any way whatsoever...its just another shooter with nazi's...and robots...or something...

NarooN3719d ago

I love how people always cry about "innovation", as if it's something that's even easy to do, or possible. What else can be done with FPS, or many other genres, that hasn't been done before?

Anyway, it's also funny to me how the same people who cry about innovation are the ones who buy CoD every year, and give it 9's and 10's (see: almost every reviewer ever.)

Wolfenstein is Wolfenstein is Wolfenstein, if you expect some sort of mind-blowing revolution, go back to your dreams.

sorane3719d ago

It's a beta not a demo. The only thing it's meant to introduce to players is the joy of bug testing and reporting.

LAWSON723719d ago

Not really, sure that is part of a beta but they let you try out the game and see what you think.

HaMM4R3719d ago

How else do you suggest people test for bugs?

KwietStorm_BLM3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

I dunno, but I hope there are other ways to get in, because I'm not buying Wolfenstein.

Hellsvacancy3719d ago

Sweeeet, it's been really quite for Doom 4 news

Mikefizzled3719d ago

A little nervous about being a grammar Nazi in the comments of an article about Wolfenstein, just incase BJ is hiding out here.

Quiet*

Much better now.

KwietStorm_BLM3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

I would be nervous about any kind of Nazi in a Wolfenstein article.

KillerPwned3719d ago

I was gonna get this regardless but now I will preorder ASAP.

MWH3719d ago (Edited 3719d ago )

with Carmack out, I wonder how will this impact the quality of the game. to be honest, I believe John Romero had a greater impact then Carmack in Id Software and since the time he left their games didn't succeed as much.

Carmack might have been the brain behind the game, but Romero was its soul.

ah, it's a time long gone now. no need to go back.

I hope DOOM 4 preserve the timeless legacy of one of the greatest games ever made.

Kleptic3719d ago

Romero made them fun to play, Carmack made them look and perform perfectly...

just look at Doom 3 as a primary example of that...it didn't have romero...it looked great, performed perfectly (on powerful hardware, anyway)...and was NOT fun to play...at all...in fact it was terrible on nearly every level...

so to say i'm worried about doom 4 is an understatement...hopefully the developers responsible for it actually have played the originals...we're getting to the point where some developers' first FPS was halo...and that is very much a bad thing for the genre...

WonderboyIII3719d ago

I tried o play Doom 3 around 4 times and I left it after an hour. This sums it up.

NarooN3719d ago

Hardly any of the original id crew are even at id anymore, and Carmack was pretty much the last of that group for many years, and he left last year.

Basically Carmack was the brains behind the actual coveted engines that all of id's games ran on. He usually coded them single-handedly and he was one of the main reasons those classic id games just *felt* so good to play, even to this day. I still fire up the Quake games and have immense fun with them.

Since Carmack already finished the id Tech 5 engine some time ago, I'm sure Doom 4 will play nicely, so long as the gameplay guys don't mess anything up, which I doubt they will after all this time.

What's cool is you can see some of the animations they kept and revised for 2016.

nirwanda1222d ago

When you strip everything back you can really see how great the animation is.
It's amazing how far games have come.

glenn19791222d ago

For me its always interesting to see some prototype of a game of something else and see the final product on why they go another direction in the end

RaidenBlack1222d ago

My favorite is the MGS:Rising vs MGR:Revengeance.(I preferred the Kojima's one)
Another interesting one is Splinter Cell Conviction Concept vs Retail

spicelicka1222d ago

I don't see what is "COD-like" here? Just because there's 2 seconds footage with ironsight?

Concertoine1222d ago

The devs were openly going for the cinematic shooter style that was popular in the years this was developed. COD-like Doom was pretty much the pitch.

Fluke_Skywalker1222d ago

Looks pish, no wonder it got canned.

Every Doom Game Ever

Whilst the FPS genre has since had a tonne of fantastic franchises, such as Quake, Unreal and Serious Sam, Doom remains at the top of the pile, and has one of the best comeback stories in video game history. Doom is almost 30 years running, and has even bled into other mediums such as feature films and novels. As it has been going for so long, there have been a large number of entries in the series, and there are probably a few you never played. This is every Doom game ever.

Why Development Stopped On DOOM 4

According to ID Executive Producer Marty Stratton, DOOM 4 was scrapped because "it was more 'DOOM' in name than really anything."

Dabigsiebowski1524d ago

Because they wanted to punish John Carmack.

AK911524d ago

From reports apparently Doom 4 was shaping up to be COD but set in the DOOM universe, honestly really glad that didn’t happen.

Profchaos1524d ago

Pretty much they wanted to make it to meet what was selling at the time and in doing so it lost the soul of what makes doom doom.

MadLad1524d ago

Even Doom 3 did that, despite being a solid game all the same. Not mind blowing, in my opinion, but a solid title.

1524d ago
Segata1524d ago

Because it was Call of Duty with generic demons on Earth. Looked worse than the 2009 Wolfenstein. They made the right call.
