Assassin's Creed 4: Xbox One 900p vs. PS4 1080p Graphics Comparison

IGN: Is the PS4's native 1080p resolution a significant improvement over Xbox One's 900p? You be the judge.

The story is too old to be commented.
Neonridr1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

you mean I can compare the graphics between the two versions myself using a compressed video as the source??

Please can I?

GarrusVakarian1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

I know, so pointless, YouTube's 1080p is horrible. Where's Gribblegrunger with those comparisons GIF's? They were much better.

Found them:

http://i.minus.com/ibmkI64o...
http://i.minus.com/iTgfydPM...
http://i.minus.com/ibtoNgg6...

The 1080p ones don't look softer to me Neonridr, quite the opposite.

Neonridr1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

that being said Lukas, I watched the video and for the most part, they look pretty similar. PS4 utilizes a softer look so the colors blend a little better. It makes the edges not as definitive as on the One and gives it a more natural feel I guess. The shaders look a little bit better on the PS4 too, but not significantly or anything.

All in all, they both look good regardless.

Also, I don't know if it's how the consoles are set up, but anyone else notice the backgrounds in the XB1 version look a little more vibrant and colorful than the PS4 version? Maybe it's just my eyes, who knows. (Use the 35 second mark with the boat as reference)

Kayant1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

Yep the one difference I see is that XB1 has more jaggies. Also what Neonridr said about the colours but that can be tweaked with your TV/monitor settings.. But the differences don't seem big with this. It will be interesting to see uncompressed footage on TVs.

pedrof931366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

Well Ps4 has better detail models and better resolution on a far distance.

Also X1 has more aliasiang though really small compared.

But its minimum. Also I believe that X1 don't have Ambient Occlusion.

kiz26941366d ago

@Neonridr To your last point, I think its just bad colour calibration on IGN's part tbh. Haven't seen it that washed out on all of the streams/gameplay videos.

Conzul1366d ago

My PS4 won't update to 1.03, it's stuck on 1.02...
Or is 1.02 the correct one for the 1080p update?

Neonridr1366d ago

@Lukas - yeah those definitely show more blur on the X1 versions. I was more implying the edges of the characters vs the backgrounds. On the X1 it looks like a very sharp line distinguishing them. Makes it look almost fake. The PS4 looks like it softens the edges a little bit to make it a little more natural.

Again, it could just be my eyes. And I am referring to the IGN video by the way.

Gamer19821366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

from the video you can never tell resolution details in stuff like close scenes (IGN likes to show them to hide xbox ones frailty's)however when zoomed out thats when the jaggys seep through
http://i.imgur.com/66aHHtl....

Check that screeny. A lot of clouds are missing too, to take some pressure off the memory. Only a minor detail but its there. Check the video to notice it more.

Wow this is a horrible comparison. You know IGN there are these things called menus on displays. You might wanna open a display manual and try it out. You make the PS4 version look low in contrast, gamma set too high and less color. The first thing I did after the update on my PS4 was go into the PS4 display settings and my LED menu display.

When I play ACIV on my display it looks more vibrant than the XBOX ONE version they are showing here. If you're going to do a comparison don't make it look like one has an advantage with something it literally takes 2 mins to adjust. Too much gamma drowns details and washing out the colors. I mean seriously.

Anyone that knows thing one about devices hooked up to a display is every individual device needs to be tweaked. This is as bad as gametrailers comparisons years ago.

Bathyj1366d ago

Man, going off those gifs, and I could be talking total bollocks because theyre not marked.

But one is sharp and detailed with clean edges. One is blurry and Jaggy.

I'm assuming PS4 is the former.

BBBirdistheWord1366d ago

going by the video, the ps4 version definitely has a softer look. I would almost go so far as to say it is more blurry.

The xbo seems to be a lot sharper and I feel the textures are clearly defined.

Going by the comments in this section, it appears I am not the only one who noticed this, straight off the bat.

We can extrapolate that the blurry images in the gifs (which aren't marked) would seem to belong to the ps4.

But then again, it's pointless to point out what we are all seeing.
There is no way in the world the ps4 fans will consider this possibility, so really we are just wasting our time.

GarrusVakarian1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

@BBBirdistheword

"We can extrapolate that the blurry images in the gifs (which aren't marked) would seem to belong to the ps4."

Lol, what? Both GIFS are PS4 screenshots, the sharper images are taken from AFTER the 1080p update, the blurry ones from BEFORE the update. You really think 1080p is that blurry? You must have never played at 1080p native. You should refrain from commenting on things you know nothing about, you just presumed the GIFs i posted where X1 vs PS4 GIFs, but they weren't.

1080p is blurry he says!

Accept the fact that the X1 version is 900p, blurrier and jaggier...unless you class jaggies as "sharp"?

"But then again, it's pointless to point out what we are all seeing.

There is nothing to consider, the PS4 version is higher res, resulting is a sharper image and better details of distant objects. You can't doubt the GIF's i posted, difference between 900p and 1080p is clear as day.

UltimateMaster1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

We already knew it.
Oh really? The PS4 is 1080p when the PC is 960p?

Yeah, the PS4 has better background animation.

Ultimately, we're all going to play the same game with the same game play, that goes for the Wii U as well.

BBBirdistheWord1365d ago

@ Lukas

Sorry, I have to call it like I see it and the PS4 screens of Assassin's creed definitely have a softer (blurred) look to them.

Others have noticed too.

Don't pop a vein, dude.

GarrusVakarian1365d ago (Edited 1365d ago )

@BBBistheword

Nope, every comparison ive seen on neogaf shows the PS4 version clearly being sharper and more detailed. No idea why it looks like it has a "fog" effect in this video because every livestream/youtube video ive watched looks vivid and not foggy at all.

The screens/GIF's i posted are BOTH PS4 screens, before and after 900p to 1080p clearly showing the 1080p update making the image super sharp,i think im going to believe the direct feed GIF comparisons and people who have played the game in native 1080p from neogaf to IGN's video. I won't be popping a vein next week when im playing superior versions of every single multiplat game on a cheaper, more powerful console.

"Others have noticed too."

Yeah, just like people noticed that the Digital Foundry BF4 footage looked blurry and washed out too.....but then went straight to youtube to see Jackfrags playing it on the PS4 looking nothing like it did on the DF comparison. I have the direct feed footage, looks vivid, sharp, and not washed out whatsoever.

Just accept the fact that multiplats are always going to look better on the PS4. The fact you actually thought the GIF's i posted were X1 vs PS4 GIF's is hilarious....then you went on to say the blurry ones were the PS4 ones (which technically they were, but before the 1080p patch).

Ju1365d ago

Difference is not that much, but IMO you can see it in motion with fine details, like window decoration or ropes on ships, etc. where those "shimmer" in the XO version but stay completely sharp in the PS4. Rest is the same, same effects and all. But finer details show quite a bit (incl. better AA due to pixel granularity).

NewMonday1365d ago

the difference shows in the playable parts not the cut-scenes, also notice better AA on the PS4.

Heisenburger1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

Ah snap.

;)

On the day that the 1080p/improved AA patch went live I had been playing ACIV for an hour or two. I take a break and come on here only to see that the patch was live.

I went and restarted the game immediately, and to me the difference was very noticeable.

My eyes didn't have to strain like they were before. What's baffling is why it was launched in the state it was in the first place.

I'm so glad they patched it in though. I've been playing this with my vita ear buds plugged into my controller. It's just pure fun, plain and simple.

:)

*I reworded a sentence I wasn't too fond of.

Beastforlifenoob1366d ago

i love how as soon as someone says the PC version will still have the best graphics they get blown to bits.

GuruMeditation1365d ago

@Beastforlifenoob indeed and rightly so, because PC isn't the subject of discussion in any way. People are well aware that PC graphics are superior and are mostly beyond caring. These are people comparing CONSOLE features, because they choose to own a console. The 'PC will always look better' chiming is off-topic dullardry at best, not far removed from turning up at the special Olympics and chastising their world class athletes for being unable to smash the records of the able bodied...

Pintheshadows1365d ago

It looks so much cleaner in 1080p. Look how messy the backgrounds look on the X1 version.

GribbleGrunger1366d ago (Edited 1366d ago )

If you look into the distance on the X1 version, you can see it has no ante-aliasing and now imagine enlaging that to a 40' - 50' TV. You cannot see the difference on compressed video at that size.

TheGreatAndPowerful1366d ago

Holy cow xb version is 900p??? I'm only now finding out about this. :( MS you f*** up, homie. You can't even run a game like AC4 that was specifically developed for last gen on your new hardware. :/

imt5581366d ago

Well, it's not a good comparison. Read the Anadtech article about XO/PS4 comparison ( HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ) : http://anandtech.com/show/7...

or here :

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

Well, there is a difference in NBA2K14 to ( a minor difference ).

assdan1366d ago

Totally true. I dont even know why I still look at these.

thisismyaccount1365d ago (Edited 1365d ago )

Well... if they for ONCE uploaded their videos with 10mbit or a higher bitrate, then notbody had anything to bitch about it.

These people are lazy as fuck, having premium twitch account and what not and great connection to upload better looking videos.. yet for some reason these #"|@·$! keep uploading their "intellectuality garbage" with 2 - 5mbit.

btw here the YT version
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

thisismyaccount1365d ago

Really weird... comparison. It looks like the XB1 is much sharper than the PS4 version. 900p better than 1080p ?!

http://vsoh.com/a0:wtf1.jpg...

Ju1365d ago (Edited 1365d ago )

Which leaves you even more baffled when you actually play this game thinking this looks nothing like it on my monitor while playing. Even the MP dropped my char. Are those character models gorgeous. Impressive. And yet, looking at the PS3 comparison videos makes you think it's almost the same.

We have an issue with these videos: games have upgraded massively, but video equipment hasn't.

harrisk9541365d ago

Yeah... IGN has the WORST video player.

For a technology-oriented company, IGN needs to upgrade their video player. Even their audio on podcasts is lacking. I listen to Beyond every week, and it such low quality audio more often than not. (or maybe it is just that Greg and Colin don't know how to use the equipment!).

XboxPS1365d ago

Who confirmed that the X1 version is 900p?
Did I miss something?

XboxPS1365d ago

Why disagree?
I really don't know that this have been confirmed.

PSX041365d ago

ps4 looks really better .... sharper, more details, and better color effect
