Does the Call of Duty: Ghosts PS4 patch fix everything?

Call of Duty: Ghost's PlayStation 4 debut hasn't gone too smoothly, with some reviews citing noticeable performance issues - even compared to the 360 game - along with the recent revelation that the single-player campaign is only running at 720p and not the full HD 1080p resolution promised by the developer.

Curiously, it turns out that the resolution issue is just a bug that slipped passed quality assurance testing, and this has since been resolved in a day-one patch. All retail and download copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts are affected, so in order to get the full 1080p experience you'll need to download and install the update when it goes live in time for the PS4's European release on the 29th November.

"there's certainly a noticeable difference between the PS4 and PC versions of Ghosts, even if the two share many of the same graphical upgrades over the current-generation console releases."

"initial impressions reveal a downgrade in texture resolution, slightly lower quality shadows, and less advanced ambient occlusion offering less coverage across the scene." ... "the PS4 game isn't quite as sharp as the PC release despite now rendering at the same resolution: it turns out that post-process anti-aliasing - perhaps FXAA - is used on the PS4"

kryteris4239d ago (Edited 4239d ago )

You really dont need much AA for the PS4, with viewing distance of 4-10 feet vs. 1 or 2 feet on PC. Also if you compare like hardware, the PS4 is doing great w/ mostly 60 fps. TBH I never played at 60 fps on PC, I would sacrifice it for higher graphic settings. It is nice to know that we are all on the same playing field on consoles. Really dont need 60, 40 is sufficient so long as the spikes dont go below 24. I dont think you will notice much of a difference at 4+ feet. As for Xbone, the jaggies will probably be noticable as well the resolution if you are used to gaming at 1080p

someoneagain4239d ago

We don't have to guess since there's a metric for just this kind of thing. Google Image search for "viewing distance resolution."

Assuming a distance of 10 feet and a 50 inch monitor, you're in "8K good enough" territory. What that means is that you're just beginning to be able to enjoy the benefits of 8K (7680x4320) over 4K.

You'd have to be using a 23 inch TV from 10 feet away to not notice the jaggies. In other words, anti-aliasing would be very beneficial in any practical setup.

While it doesnt look bad in 720p, and definitely looks sharper and cleaner in 1080p, heck even the colors look better in 1080p. I'll take 1080p with a little bit of frame drop (which btw, i can barely feell or tell) or the blurrier 720p with an overall smoohter framerate drop. The game still feels smooth as hell to me throughout 99% of the game

And to aquamala, why would you post that? we know the PS4 cant compete with PCs, but heck the X1 version cant even compete with the PS4 version

BobBelcher4239d ago

PS4 wasn't supposed to be 1080p apparently.

black0o4239d ago

why 'd u think that?

did u see this report from DF http://n4g.com/news/1397790...

Kryptix4239d ago (Edited 4239d ago )

Shhh...Bob feeds of deniability. That's why he's trying so hard to keep people blind...and failing.

Why? Another brainfart?

[Lukas_Japonicus + 1d 2h ago
All those times the Xbox fans said "lol, the PS4 isn't powerful enough to run 1080p 60fps" and it was because the console is TOO powerful, haha, gotta love it.

Thrust, belking, palaven and the rest of you guys, what do you have to say now?]

I have not seen so much butthurt on N4G for a long time!

I patched Ghost's and started getting hard offs, and file system checks w/ PS3 disc but after (on ps4) the 1.51 patch that seized. Thank heavens, I have also experienced hard offs with PS homepage on browser, and holding down ps button while COD loads to check battery life.

Anyone else experience hard offs, and causes? ..makes me nerveous, but she just gets a lil bit warm is all. Cant be heat.

BX814239d ago

Did they fix the spawning? Thanks.

Majin-vegeta4239d ago

You have a better chance of winning the lottery than that happening xD

MegaMohsi4239d ago

They've patched the game again this morning to 1.06, not sure what it did.

Revolver_X_4239d ago

PS3 patch claims to have fixed the spawn system. Lo' and behold, enemies still spawn literally 10 feet behind me. Seriously, Ghosts maps are huge. Yet, the spawns are the worse.

BX814239d ago

They aren't huge. Well I guess if you compare it to the typical gerbal wheel maps cod is use to lately.

All Call of Duty Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes: "Call of Duty has to be the most recognizable franchise on the planet. They didn’t get that way by only making a handful of games.

COD has a long and storied career. Launching as a PC WW2 first-person shooter, Call of Duty has gone through numerous makeovers and been on just about every system. The series has gone through some serious highs and tragic lows. I’ll be looking at each Call of Duty game, the good the bad, and the ugly."

Vanguard better be at the fkn bottom. Can’t believe ppl haven’t eviscerated that game with all its lacking

Minimoth1230d ago

Yeah, it's close to the bottom. There are a couple of worse ones. Infinite Warfare definitely deserves its place.

KyRo1230d ago

There's a number a lot worse than Vangaurd. It's also a lot better than that car crash Treyarch released before it.

XbladeTeddy1230d ago

World at War is my favourite. Didn't know the N-Gage had a Call of Duty.

MadLad1230d ago

Same for me.
I was never huge into Call of Duty, but I sunk a lot of time into WaW.
Both the campaign and the multiplayer are on point. Wouldn't mind a remaster.

I quit on CoD for a long while. Though I'm the odd man out that actually really enjoyed the campaign for WWII, being I got it through Humble monthly way back when.

TheLigX1230d ago

I really enjoyed the Infinite campaign. Multiplayer... not so much.

Yppupdam1230d ago

I agree, The Infinite campaign feels more like it's own thing that they slapped the CoD name on. If it stood on it's own, (sans the CoD name) I think it could have been it's own scifi franchise. And a damn good looking game, to boot. I never bothered to play the multiplayer.

victorMaje1230d ago

MW 2019 apart from the desastrous file sizes is way better than AW.

MadLad1229d ago

That was one I grabbed for Playstation because it pretty much just came out during the Redbox purge of videogames, and I got it for dirt cheap.

It was great coming home to an update every night, and watching one game eat up almost half my console's memory.

Amplitude1230d ago (Edited 1230d ago )

Will get disagrees but Infinite Warfare campaign was really good. Decent story, set pieces were amazing and if it didn't have the CoD game on it I'm sure people would have been more into it. Advanced Warfare was alright too. Titanfall 2 was just 1000 times better than both but I enjoyed them for their campaigns. I literally barely gaf about the story I'm in it for the set pieces and 5 hours of being stoned watching cool nonsense happen if I'm in the mood to play a CoD campaign. If I'm looking for a deep plot I'm gonna go somewhere else.
Ghosts was the worst story-wise though lol that cliffhanger ending was so bs.

Also MW 2019 was sick and is one of the best CoD games in yeeeears not sure why it's so low on this dude's list. Campaign was great, multiplayer was great and Warzone was fun for a while. Over it now but shrugs.

Beat the Vanguard campaign too but I can't even remember a single thing about it other than that it felt like it was 45 minutes long. Might be the most forgettable thing I've ever played lol just fully erased from my brain

Wore implementation I've ever seen,.. guess it just does not work all that great on every engine

MarkyMark892191d ago (Edited 2191d ago )

Agree, but this gives me hope that one day Ray Tracing can be a software based feature and not require some type of proprietary hardware to achieve. Software will always outpace Hardware so it could happen, but I feel like its going to take a lot more time to achieve the same level that RTX has already shown glimpses of so far. Really just waiting for Cyberpunk to see if RTX is actually something viable. I think if anybody can truly showcase RTX Features it would be Projekt Red.

zeal0us2191d ago

Too bad it doesn't make Mankind Divided a better game.

starchild2191d ago

It doesn't need to, the game was already fantastic, imo.

zeal0us2191d ago

Human Revolution was a better game and not to mention longer.

isarai2191d ago

Reshade is not raytracing, its a screen space post processing effect. Thats like calling SSAO "global illumination"
