"It's less to do with specs and more to do with what you do with those specs"

Of course, optimization is a key role in console development, but the better the specs you have the more you can do with those specs.

For example, nearing the end of the PS4 and X1 cycle, the power gap between them will most likely get bigger and be made most apparent by 1st party developers.

Mikelarry4255d ago (Edited 4255d ago )

exactly but this dev didn't properly optimize their game or even use the tools they provided properly as i just read a joystiq article that reports frame rate drops in dead rising and that on 720p SMH

sound like

"It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it."

Quick thoughts on the "Resolutiongate" scandal.

This is a tough one. Yes optimization is key but why are we assuming that developers aren't optimizing games. Lest we forget that GT5 on PS3 ran at 1080P 60FPS almost flawlessly. Using Forza 5 as a benchmark for where other titles should be is nonsense. Microsoft has to tread a very thin line.

They can't make it look like their system is weak, but at the same time, they don't want to dump blame on the developers. Mark Ruben took the queue from Metro and stated that Dice, Respawn and Double Helix were all having the same issues. Now Capcom too? The common denominator is the Xbox One hardware, poor tool chains, or both.

"It's less to do with specs and more to do with what you do with those specs"

And the same goes for Sony, but they've got way better specs, which means they can do a lot more with those specs.

/lawyered.

darthv724255d ago

while i agree that better specs leads to better overall potential. I am reminded of how consoles of yore had limitations and it was the creativity of the developers in finding ways around those limitations.

a good example was the genesis. just look at the games at or near its launch (altered beast, thunder force 2, etc) and compare them with those near its end (thunder force 4, ranger x, gunstar heroes, etc).

it was the same hardware throughout but they just got better at making the hardware (limitations) seem less and less because the familiarity and programming tricks.

Achieving more with less is not the same as achieving more with more but there needs to be some respect given to those who are able to get results from obvious limitations.

So it's not the size of the boat it's the motion of the ocean???? But man it would take a long time to get to europe from the u.s in a row boat.

Except given that the current, 360/PS3, gen was about multiplatform, broad appeal over optimization or specialization, that doesn't say much about the soon to be "next gen".

Not that how one platform handled the latest COD speaks well of it. And still their competition has a better rep and more experience where getting the best out of their hardware is concerned. Of actually optimizing.

DeadRabbits4255d ago

There is no sugar coating it, the xbone is an inferior piece of hardware compared to the PS4 and will only maintain a niche market in NA!

By the time the "Cloud" becomes a real player the whole landscape of gaming in general will have changed again!

rainslacker4255d ago

I think if specs didn't matter they should just say what they are. :)

internet goers will go on like they will regardless, might as well make it as factual as possible.

Either way the truth will come out soon, and the conversations won't really be any different.

Where have I heard this before... Oh yes...

"it's not the size that matters it what you do with it that counts"

Lmao.

jackanderson19854255d ago (Edited 4255d ago )

just for the record it does have to be bigger than 3 inches... i know completely unrelated but 3 is actually the magic number

Chaostar4255d ago

What about 2inches upscaled to 3?

jackanderson19854255d ago

depends who you talk to... certain devs will make it out to seem as such... but hey as long as it moves at 60fps right?

Sci0n4255d ago (Edited 4255d ago )

its not the size of the boat but its the motion in the ocean, its not the specs of the one but the power of the clouds.

majiebeast4255d ago (Edited 4255d ago )

Nah it has to do with specs. Infamous Second Son shows what is possible on a first generation PS4 game, hell Killzone SF shows that and its a launch title.

Soldierone4255d ago

Until you eventually hit a wall, and no matter how you tweak it, you simply can't make it any better.....

I wish they’d do a proper switch 2 update for Tony Hawk 1+2 me and my 7 year old daughter love playing it in split screen and it plays great but it looks absolutely terrible. I would say it looks like the resolution drops down to about 540p in order to keep the framerate up.

LucasRuinedChildhood3h ago

If they don't, Pro Skater 1+2 is pretty cheap these days on PS5 and Series X if you have on of them. Switch version was only 30fps as well.

Pro Skater 3+4 will definitely be a huge upgrade from that on Switch 2.

That controller looks like a cheap knockoff... it should have been a proper DS5 design.

darthv721d 6h ago

...the VR aspect in 7 IS the redeeming quality.

Abriael1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

what a dumb take.

Ace Combat 7 is one of the best games of the past generation. It doesn't need VR gimmicks to "redeem" it.

TheColbertinator21h ago

I have enjoyed nearly every single Ace Combat to death (except that helicopter shooting one) and have never needed VR once to enjoy it greatly

PapaBop12h ago

^^^ I'm guessing you've never actually tried it in VR then? VR elevates games like this way beyond just a gimmick, just ask any GT fan who owns a PSVR 2. You may not need VR to have a good time but it's an absolute game changer and something that shouldn't be dismissed as a gimmick.

S2Killinit12h ago(Edited 12h ago)

@Abriael
Spoken like someone who never played it. But who are we kidding. We know why VR hate. No one is fooled here.

Abriael11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

@PapaBop: I tried it in VR before any of you ever did, since the game wasn't even out yet. It's a gimmick, disjointed from the AC7's main gameplay and far removed from its best parts.

It's nothing more than a limiting factor, as Ace Combat's most complex missions require hardware power to be focused on other things. That's why the VR missions are very basic.

If you think Ace Combat's strengths are even close to the platform it's on, VR or non-VR, you obviously aren't an Ace Combat fan.

In any case, I suggest you folks prepare yourself for disappointment. There's a reason why the VR gimmick was never expanded, and it's that, besides a few fanatics who care for evangelizing their VR fad more than they care for the franchise, no one gave a flying F.

The developers are going to use the resources to make the whole game better for everyone instead.

VR was the best thing that happened to Ace Combat. You kidding?

yeastori10h ago

VR is perfect for this type of game wdym

Abriael9h ago

It's a perfect way to limit this type of game.

CrimsonWing691d 6h ago

Look, I’m a simple man. I see Ace Combat and say, “Yes!”

Abnor_Mal1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

Can we get a new Ace Combat, with full vr and not just three or four levels, for PS5 and PSVR2
Also if we could get a remake of my all time favorite, Ace Combat5: The Unsung War, again with full vr for every mission with DualSense and flight stick haptics.

yeastori10h ago

I just want them to remaster AC4 and AC5, a new AC with better more realistic looking world and planes would be great too
