Xbox One launch title devs on the Xbox One power debate.
Of course, optimization is a key role in console development, but the better the specs you have the more you can do with those specs. For example, nearing the end of the PS4 and X1 cycle, the power gap between them will most likely get bigger and be made most apparent by 1st party developers.
exactly but this dev didn't properly optimize their game or even use the tools they provided properly as i just read a joystiq article that reports frame rate drops in dead rising and that on 720p SMH article http://www.joystiq.com/2013...
sound like "It's not the size that matters, it's how you use it."
Quick thoughts on the "Resolutiongate" scandal. This is a tough one. Yes optimization is key but why are we assuming that developers aren't optimizing games. Lest we forget that GT5 on PS3 ran at 1080P 60FPS almost flawlessly. Using Forza 5 as a benchmark for where other titles should be is nonsense. Microsoft has to tread a very thin line. They can't make it look like their system is weak, but at the same time, they don't want to dump blame on the developers. Mark Ruben took the queue from Metro and stated that Dice, Respawn and Double Helix were all having the same issues. Now Capcom too? The common denominator is the Xbox One hardware, poor tool chains, or both.
"It's less to do with specs and more to do with what you do with those specs" And the same goes for Sony, but they've got way better specs, which means they can do a lot more with those specs. /lawyered.
while i agree that better specs leads to better overall potential. I am reminded of how consoles of yore had limitations and it was the creativity of the developers in finding ways around those limitations. a good example was the genesis. just look at the games at or near its launch (altered beast, thunder force 2, etc) and compare them with those near its end (thunder force 4, ranger x, gunstar heroes, etc). it was the same hardware throughout but they just got better at making the hardware (limitations) seem less and less because the familiarity and programming tricks. Achieving more with less is not the same as achieving more with more but there needs to be some respect given to those who are able to get results from obvious limitations.
So it's not the size of the boat it's the motion of the ocean???? But man it would take a long time to get to europe from the u.s in a row boat.
Except given that the current, 360/PS3, gen was about multiplatform, broad appeal over optimization or specialization, that doesn't say much about the soon to be "next gen". Not that how one platform handled the latest COD speaks well of it. And still their competition has a better rep and more experience where getting the best out of their hardware is concerned. Of actually optimizing.
There is no sugar coating it, the xbone is an inferior piece of hardware compared to the PS4 and will only maintain a niche market in NA! By the time the "Cloud" becomes a real player the whole landscape of gaming in general will have changed again!
I think if specs didn't matter they should just say what they are. :) internet goers will go on like they will regardless, might as well make it as factual as possible. Either way the truth will come out soon, and the conversations won't really be any different.
Where have I heard this before... Oh yes... "it's not the size that matters it what you do with it that counts" Lmao.
just for the record it does have to be bigger than 3 inches... i know completely unrelated but 3 is actually the magic number
What about 2inches upscaled to 3?
depends who you talk to... certain devs will make it out to seem as such... but hey as long as it moves at 60fps right?
its not the size of the boat but its the motion in the ocean, its not the specs of the one but the power of the clouds.
Nah it has to do with specs. Infamous Second Son shows what is possible on a first generation PS4 game, hell Killzone SF shows that and its a launch title.
Until you eventually hit a wall, and no matter how you tweak it, you simply can't make it any better.....
all good things once come to an end
Some things faster than others, haha
Yeah what you do with those specs right.... Hence lower resoultion multiplatform games....... You need to start showing rather than making false claims
Than show us ! all im seeing are 720p games lol
This is because developers are finding the transition awkward between old to new gen. Its growing pains, besides, resolution doesn't guarantee a prettier game. U need textures and shading to be right, as well as a decent and adaptive game engine. If they ain't done properly 1080p will only highlight them further. Diminishing returns play a factor too, 360p to 720p is obvious, even when sitting from a distance. 720p to 1080p however doesn't improve it as much as 360 to 720. And if ur sitting more than 1.5 meters away, its impossible for the eyes to distinguish the difference on a purely resolution basis. Textures, shading and game engine are immeasurably more important than resolution.
I thought it was 'more like a pc' with the x86 architecture ? The Ps4 is getting a few games on the 1080p 60fps, something the X1 is not getting, no excuses !
Its all well and good claiming one console has better specs. But if u cant access all of it then you lose the winning edge.
Ridiculous... If the shoe was on the other foot, MS would be boasting "POWER" Look at the console sales as an example When 360 was ahead they published consoles sold. Once Ps3 passed them they publish consoles shipped Microsoft likes to boast, nobody can deny that
Oh and Sony dnt? Theyre acting like spoilt children who got everything they wanted for Xmas and now rubbing it in everyones faces
Where has Sony been bragging?
Actually they haven't done that in any instance at all. Some are just very sad that the new Xbox is a glorified last generation machine. That had nothing to do with SONY. Your beef is with MS Xbox division.
nice....now 343 show me halo5.
Then NES must be better than PS4 if this is the logic, cause after so many years, devs must know NES better than PS4, isn't it? Why release another console? these people think you are stupid enough to believe this BS so they try to fool you. DON"T BUY XBONE!!!!!!
Yes, I agree. Head nodding wildly as I compare GT6 to Forza 4.......... still nodding as I compare GT6 to Forza 5.
Im wishing I did not cancel my ps4 preorder but as soon as I have the money I will own both systems. Sony so far has really caught me off guard as I have always been a ms guy and still am but the ps4 makes me hungrier for it as of now over the one. Time will tell. Happy launch to everyone and enjoy your games no matter whos name is plastered on the plastic front. Btw I know I said good riddins to this site but I had a change of heart and I am not going to let the fanboys get to me anymore and contribute to the conversation more without feeling like I have to defend my console of choice because in the end we are all just Gamers with differing opinions which make us all unique. Thanks for hearing me out
Well, I can relate to you a bit. I came here during the great PS3 scourge thinking that I could offer my opinion freely and openly...no trolling EVER. What happened? Lost all but 2 bubbles! I thought about leaving. But, instead, I just had to become wiser about the way that I stated my opinions. It shouldn't be that gamers that game on differing systems can't have a dialog. But, there are those that are adult enough to handle criticism and debate and there are those that can't. I just don't understand the unwavering loyalty to companies. I love my games, my consoles, but I am a realist about corporations. Oh...and Happy Launch Day to you as well...and tidings of great gaming for all!!!! (This holiday needs to be made official!!!)
It's about both, and no one is saying any differently. But here's the problem: PS4 beats XBOX One in specs, and there's every reason to think it's first-party studios are at least as good as those working with MS. Further, we already know that multiplats are being tailored somewhat additionally to PS4, as COD and BF4 demonstrate.
